  1. How long ago was this? I wrote them about another pair I had problems with after a week of wearing (heel pad came loose and tounge was sew in completely crooked) and even sent pictures. They wrote me back and said that I had to go through the shop I purchased them from.

This was in 2009 or 2010. I think I wrote Epaulet (who I bought them from), they connected me with Alden, and it was free. So perhaps it was the store I dealt with. In any event, they fixed them, and I've never had a problem since, with either pair of Aldens I have. Your mileage may vary.

  2. Anyone ever had this problem with their Alden's? These boots look better but for being less than a year old I just expected a little more from a "work boot".

I had a similar problem with one pair of my Alden's - wrote them about it, showed them the picture, they told me to send them in for repair, free of charge. Returned them shined and haven't had a problem since.

  3. Heading to San Francisco next week - be in town the 4th-8th. Friends want to take me to Heirloom Cafe one night, and a friend in Chicago recommended Blue Plate. Already planning on hitting up Cafe Tartine. Also:

-Self Edge: I want me some black 3:16's

-Unionmade, just to kick the tires

Recommendations I could use (to anyone familiar with Chicago, I really like places like Scofflaw, the Whistler, Smallbar, and so on. I live in a Mission-esque area of Chicago):

    -great whiskey/cocktail bar(s)

    -great beer bar

These are all the non-cultural things I can think of right now. Staying with some old work friends who live in Cow Hollow (by their own admission they suspect we'll spend most of our time in the Mission, but that's "home base").

  4. chicago chicago

first week of september i'll be in yo city for three days from neighboring stl for the first time.

anyone wanna' chill? show me some cool places to shop/eat?

    Where will you be staying?

  5. Dead on Jake! You know your guns well. It's a Springfield Pro Custom.

The M1911A1 is iconic, and I've been lusting after Springfield Armory's "Range Officer" model, you know, so I'm properly, and stylishly, equipped for combating the zombie apocalypse. Although if Walking Dead is right I should just go out and get an S&W M&P9mm, since it has a ton of ammo capacity and any ole shot to the head appears to do it. But style, man, style! You can't go wrong with an icon (although I don't love the fishtail modification, I understand how "hammer bite" could suck worse).

Oh yeah, nice shirt, I should have mentioned that too.

  6. MF Calico shirt.

Who makes that .45? It's got the modern sights and flared ejection port, but the front of the slide isn't scalloped (which is a trait I hate on modern m1911a1 clones), so is it a Springfield Armory?

Here's my finished sleeve - as I said above, Holly Azzara was the artist. It's an unusual mash up of Japanese landscapes, with some elements of block prints and water colors. But the landscape element lays well on an arm and the colors really have a great quality. I'm quite happy with the finished product, but I recognize the lack of a traditional "subject" might not be to everyone's taste.

  8. Really haven't experimented too much honestly. Just the normal stuff at bars is what I've had... grabbed a bottle of forty creek as I didn't want to drop $40 on my first bottle (hopefully will after trying more)

Totally makes sense. Go to Longman and Eagle - they have a pretty nice $3 shot selection. You can try a lot of whiskies, and for cheap.

  9. i want to try a bottle of nicer whiskey... im seeing bulleit and basil haydens being talked about a bit, also templeton. leaning towards templeton as its been most recently discussed.

What's your current favorite whiskey? I prefer Basil Hayden and Templeton to Bulleit (though it has a certain appeal).

  10. Travelling to get tattoed ups my endurance. At home the longest I ever sat was four hours. Last weekend I travelled to Boston to finish my sleeve. Just the extra "this is it" feeling from going adds endurance. Sat 7 1/2 hours the first day, 3 the second day to finish. It sucked. But it is done!
