  1. Here's my story:

I ordered (and received) a pair of size 32 Gucci pants (found here: http://www.allanio.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=556 ) in September. They did not fit and I mailed them back to www.allanio.com promptly.

After about 5 emails trying to contact them, I only got halfass responses from a guy named Jay like "we'll look into it" and after October, I never heard from them again. They even stopped responding to my emails requesting my refund.

So basically, I'm calling them out. I want my damn $158 back. I returned a product to them and they kept my money and thats not cool. I've seen them advertise their website here before so I thought Superfuture would be an apppropriate place to ask for help.

If this somehow gets resolved, I'll update the thread. In the meantime, buyer beware. Thanks.

  2. How much does a decent Buyer make in NYC? What is the best way for a young dude to get into this scene? Are there programs that people go through or do you just need to meet the right people? Anything people are willing to share about life as a buyer in New York would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  3. I'd like to add to this conversation that either the guys at Allanio are incredibly slow, or they've failed to return my $150 for a pair of returned gucci pants after 3 weeks. They won't respond to any of my emails either. I hate to call them out on a message board but since they won't reply to any emails...

So bottom line is: They are either thieves, or just really slow.

  4. Hair Mates is an awesome salon. Although most of the stylists are Japanese (which is a good thing in case you don't know), many caucasian people go there. I've never had a better haircut in New York. In my opinion you'd be foolish not to give it a try.

The bag says EVIS... isnt it supposed to be EVISU? Or is it just because they're used to be called Evis?

I know Japanese people call them EVIS and not EVISU.

yes, they did used to be called evis. some of the jeans still come in bags and whatnot that say evis. it means the same thing. some older models also have tags that say it. i dont understand why they would do this after the name change but i have seen it a few times.

The name change was due to a lawsuit with Levis. Evis (the original name) was just a pun on Levis and the japanese god "Evis(u)". Levis threatened Evis and thus, the name became Evisu. Remember, the original aim of Evisu was Levis reproduction.

i know. levis actually did try to sue them. but the courts figured it was irrelevant seeing as the companies were halfway around the world and for different markets.

Not true. Evis had to remove all of the back pocket "red tabs" so as not to be confused for Levis jeans. Also, considering the Evis was attempting to enter the London and NYC markets on an exlcusive basis, they couldn't afford a legal battle with Levis, a company with much deeper pockets than Evis.

  7. Polo custom fit shirts are not very slim in the body at all. Charles Tyrwhitt makes a "fitted" shirt but they aren't very slim. Thomas Pink slim fit? I don't think so. Their idea of slim is like 5"8 185lbs, 34 inch waist. I'm 6" 160 (broad shoulders and 30-31 inch waist) and generic brands' version of "slim fit" is never slim enough for me.

As for Ted Baker, their shirts are definitely slim enough for me. I can't speak for all of their shirts though, as I have only tried on 3 different ones (I bought them all because of their fit). The torso was cut slim and the arm holes were nice and high, which eliminated all of the extra, unnecessary fabric on the shirt. If you live in the NYC area you should just go to the Ted Baker store on Broome St. Sometimes you can find the shirts on sale for as low as $70.

If you are lucky enough to catch Paul Smith on sale (I was able to in June) you can pick up shirts at the PS store on 5th ave. for about $125. Still expensive for some, but I can say its worth it.

You can also pay a visit to your local tailor if you get fed up.

  8. I've been screwed by too many random tailors in New York. Can anyone recommend a good one? At this point, I don't even care where on Manhattan the tailor is located (I live on 23rd St), I'm just looking for somebody who won't screw up simple things like taking in a shirt, taking in pants, etc.

I've heard Ramon's is good -- anybody have experience with them? thanks.

  9. I've got a pair of OSD Jeans (not the New OSD). They're straighter and a little wider than your typical 501 replica. The rise is a little lower also. My OSD's do not feel cheap at all. They feel pretty well made. Overall I'd say the fit is closer to the APC English cut with a higher rise. They are also fairly narrow in the hips. Overall I think they're great jeans. If you like slim legged jeans (ie helmut lang), you may want to look elsewhere.

  10. I am holding out on the Brooks Brothers slim fit shirt because I was really looking for french cuffs. I think I'm going to end up getting it there though.

I'm certainly not afraid to drop a couple hundred on a dress shirt, but generally not for a white one. I'm probably going to wear it once, maybe twice so I didn't want to waste my money for a spur of the moment interview. My work will require business casual so I'll likely wear shirts with a little more color (my favorites being Paul Smith and Gucci). I was really just wondering if there was some stand-by white shirt that everyone knew was the best.

After weighing my options though, it sounds like Brooks Brothers is my best bet (afterall, its only 60 bucks). The french cuffs will have to wait another day.

  11. I'm looking for a slim white dress shirt with french cuffs if possible (the shirt will be worn with a tie/suit). I've been to Charles Tyrwhitt and Brooks Brothers and I wasn't successful. Charles Tyrwhitt are idiots for not selling a size 15.5/34 (below size 16 neck, they only offer 33 or 35 inch sleeves). Unfortunately I'll need it by Friday and I can't take the time to get the sleeves altered on a Charles Tyrwhitt shirt. Bummer.

I've gotten white shirts from Century 21 before (YSL and D&G) but they are always semi-transparent b-grades.

I also went to Thomas Pink but $165 for a white shirt is a last resort. Any recommendations? Oh yeah -- and I'm in NYC. Thanks.
