  1. Here's my one month update.  I don't think I said before, but I opted for the Chelsea. These work quite well for my skinny legs, in fact I think they fit perfectly!  I've been getting 5+ days a week since I can wear them at work.

You can see the phone outline here, some wear on the first and third buttons down (the second tends to fold in).  Some nice crinkles developing, but no real wear otherwise.

Yes, I'm wearing sandals and socks.  Don't tell anyone please!

Some wear on the seam below the left pocket.  More wear here than on the right.

Wear on the back pocket rivets and back pockets.

Almost a month ago now I got out for the last big day of the season in RMNP.  I spent some time in the Never Summer Range, on the west side of the park- 22 miles and 7800 feet of elevation gain over 16.5 hours all on three hours of sleep the night before.  I was beyond tired!  Pictured is Mount Richthofen, at 12945 feet, the highest peak in the range.

The highlight of the day was a traverse of this ridge between Lead Mountain and Tepee Mountain.  It was pretty stout fourth class and a few hundred feet down on either side.  Definitely a don't fall here place.

Last week I hiked/ran three more of the Boulder County Peaks, pictured here is Half Nick Peak, 6872 feet as seen from peak 6548.  A shorter but fun day.  I found a deer skull, jawbone, and an elk jawbone which are all soaking to clean up.  I've spent alot of time in the middle of nowhere but haven't ever found a skull before!

Last week I headed back to RMNP to climb Sprague Mountain, 12713 feet (the high point to the right of my poles) and Mount Eleanor, 12380 feet.  I was disappointed to see how much snow there was already.  It definitely makes movement more difficult.  Time to break out the snowshoes, at least at the higher elevations.

We got our first snow of the year today, though it wasn't as much as predicted and has pretty much all melted already.  With this in mind, I headed up to Loveland, Colorado with my Mountain Bike to ride the Devils Backbone trail to Ft. Collins and back yesterday.  It was actually a pretty nice day in the end.

The Devils Backbone is a pretty neat sandstone geological feature, really eye catching when you drive out of Loveland and see it as a whole.  Pretty cool to take the trails and explore the area around the base of the formations.

  2. "Those jeans fit you perfectly.  Especially from behind!"- my wife on the Black Marias.

So, we're at two weeks in.  Anyone starting to notice any wear?  It seems like I can maybe see a few places where the denim is starting to lighten- over the back pocket rivets, a faint phone wear line.  They are so dark it is hard to tell if I'm see some lighter colored dirt or actual wear.

  3. As promised, my inital self taken (with a timer on the first) pictures:

The weather at higher elevations the past two days has not been great.  Hence I stayed down and added to the Boulder County Highpoints list the past two days.  Now at 25/87.

Today took the dogs with me and wore the Black Marias to climb point 7985...

    Mountains make dogs happy!

Two day total ~18 miles and 5300 feet of elevation gain.  Actually pretty low for me!

  4. Hi, my name is Andy.  I live in the beautiful state of Colorado and rather dislike my job but it does give me the chance to take advantage of all the outdoors we have.  Favorite things include mountain biking and hiking/mountaineering.  Working on two lists as per the latter right now- all named destinations in Rocky Mountain National Park (peaks, lakes, waterfalls, random high points, etc.), at 393/483 and Boulder County high points, about 1/4 of the way to completing the 87 ranked peaks, most of which have been by coincidence until the decision this week to take that on.  Thus I spend alot of time outdoors in the middle of nowhere.  Thinking of trying an ultra next year.

This is my first contest and third pair of raws.  I've been thinking about some Black Marias for almost a year now.  This provided a good opportunity to go for them.

    Pictures to come...
