  1. I'm compelled to give a partial response, being that I posted a picture of 3 variations of the 1001.

    I also have the 1000XX.

The taper on the 1001 is not a strong taper. If you're looking for something with s stronger taper read the last few pages for advice. I think the 900 is mentioned most often.

Now, out of all the jeans I own in size 36, Warehouse have the most room.

I prefer the fit of all my Warehouse jeans after a hot soak/hot wash/extra hot spin dry. I think I'm in the minority with that process, or maybe all that means is I should have sized down.

By comparison I have three pair of Samurai. Two 5000 variations, one 710. Two size 35, one 36. I prefer the fit on those a few wears after a cold wash/hang dry combo. They need a wear or two to stretch back to pre-wash measurements.

Hope that doesn't muddy the waters for you. Perhaps someone with all three pairs will chime in.

  2. All tagged size 36

    Bottom-1001 20th Anniversary Natural Indigo

    Middle-1001

    Top-dd1001xx

The 20th Anniversary are huge. I can pull them on already buttoned.

The other two 1001 are nearly identical in measurements and fit, the only differences are fit, and probably due to amount of wear.

I understand you not agreeing with the price increases, but I'm unsure as to what makes you so sure that PBJ is wrong in their decisions. I'm sure that they've thought this thing through. Then again, you could be right about everything:)

I could very well be wrong too.

I'm not against price increases, but I am against increases that are not due to increased cost to produce or supply and demand issues.

Don't forget this price increase does nothing to add value for the end user. This price increase is for BIG to have price protection, to gain more of an existing market, by taking away sales from OD and Denimio. PBJ is not getting the extra $. OD and Denimio are not paying extra $. Will BIG sell as much more product as OD and Denimio MAY lose? Tough to guesstimate that one. Who will lose? Customers lose $, PBJ may lose sales. Maybe decreased volume means somebody loses a job. Nobody wins.

What happens when cost to produce does increase? It will be that much more difficult to pass on the legitimate increase.

What did OD put in their letter? 30-40% increase? That is a tough pill to swallow that any conscientious consumer would have to stop and question. BIG and PBJ wanted consumers to look at BIG as a retailer due to price. Might those same people looking to BIG based upon price, now also consider other brands based upon price? It's possible. BIG and PBJ have already used price as a motivator. It has the potential to backfire.

Again, I very well could be wrong.

  4. I guess that makes sense. There should be an app for that, that ties into accounting/inventory software and the webstore simultaneously, and that updates prices in all currencies daily.

Then again, there would need to be one more piece of the formula that would be PBJ/BIG/OD/Denimio specific to make sure there are no advantages, no matter what a currency's value is.

  5. They are using this int'l pricing as a very poor band aid. It won't solve the problem long term, just make BIG feel like PBJ is trying. On the last page you mention exchange rates. Exchange rates change often, are the prices at Denimio at OD going change as often? What if Denimio and OD don't have the staff to change prices on every item each time the exchange rate changes? What happens when the dollar drops in value? Will BIG lower prices? No because their costs remain the same. You also mentioned location in relation to cost of doing business. That is BIG's issue, and I'm sure their location also gives them advantages OD and Denimio can't calculate and ask PBJ to make up for through asking all other retailers to adjust pricing.

This is a really bad band aid that is going to expose bigger problems. Once PBJ answers BIG's request, they should, honorably, answer any requests by all their other retailers.

When you play out all possible scenarios this becomes a very slippery slope.

  6. I really enjoy all my different denims and the manufacturers that produce the shirts, jackets, and pants.

The manufacturers, retailers, and customers have a problem though. The products we all post about are a niche within a niche.

Looking at my closet I see:

Iron Heart, Samurai, ONI, Mister Freedom, WH Ranch, Roy, Warehouse, Big John, TFH, Stevenson, Freenote, Indigofera, etc...

Can our niche sustain all these labels?

Part of our niche relates to wearing the hell out of these items. And they hold up to it, and then some, and then some more!!! If I live another 100 years, and stay the same size, my closet has more than enough to get me through all those years and seasons.

My question is how do we support these businesses long term once we have more than our current needs? We want them around so the next generation can discover them, and see what we're all crazy about, but there is only so much we can wear.

  7. When I say PBJ will have a smaller presence outside of Japan, it has nothing to do with their denim. I'm speculating that this new int'l pricing is a reflection of not knowing how to navigate a global market and grow brand awareness at the same time. In business, if you're not growing your market share, it is actually shrinking. Market share never stays in one place, because it is influenced by many factors outside of one businesses control.

I'd be curious to know if BIG was the director of this change. I know BIG seems to be carrying a whole lot less denim in all brands. I even read somewhere that they were moving in a different direction.

Isn't price fixing and collusion Wall St shit? Plus, minimum advertised prices are normal for retail from what I can tell. And why is it capitalism when shop profits go down, but not when shops negotiate to keep themselves in business?

I think your missing a very big aspect of this.

PBJ has been selling to all shops at the same price. Now they are DEMANDING OD and Denimio to charge their customers different prices based upon the region the product is delivered to. Or perhaps it is the currency used. Who the hell knows.

Here are the definitions that pertain to your question. From Study.com

"Capitalism affords economic freedom, consumer choice, and economic growth. Socialism, which is an economy controlled by the state and planned by a central planning authority, provides for a greater social welfare and decreases business fluctuations."

I've been meaning to ask this. Since PBJ has now announced this plan based upon equal pricing, who, how often, and by what metrics will the "international %s" be measured and adjusted? I mean if they're truly committed to equality wouldn't they need to at least make weekly adjustments. Some days my dollar is worth more, other days less.

If a brand wants to stay small and local with complete control. Great, do that. But if they want to be global, and reach new markets, they can't expect to exert the small local standards globally.

I believe, if this business philosophy persists, outside of Japan, PBJ will slowly  disappear from the marketplace.

  9. I dig those primer buttons. Looks like it is going to wear great over time.

I have so many denim shirts that I love, that it is hard now to pick up new ones.

What's nice about this all in large part is the service that retailers give, and that costs money.

Last thing anyone needs are more Walmarts and people bitching for service while demanding it at 99 cen

In the end this doesn't work. If a shop is willing to take a smaller profit margin, but move volume, that is the shop owners choice. PBJ does not pay the staff or the operating costs.

By your reasoning, everything should be the same price everywhere.

What happens when a customer sizes wrong and puts the item up for sale online? Is PBJ or group of shop owners going to try to dictate the price? If something sits in my closet for 12 months, then online for two. Then I'm willing to sell it for less.

Heck, is PBJ going to dictate that a retailer can't sell for MORE than anybody else? By your rationale they should. If you say no to this please explain why.

It is too bad that PBJ is taking such a short sighted approach. As much as I'd rather be looking at evo pics, this philosophy is now interwoven into everything PBJ produces. In fact, they brought it to the forefront of their brand.

Alas, with enough time and washes, this too will fade...

First OT: I can't believe in the naivete in the thinking that Trump's protectionism will benefit anyone in the end. Most US industry rely on international market, domestic market alone just won't cut it. He is trying to force feed US.products on international market and at the same time block international competition with heavy taxes/customs charges. Where's the fairness in that? Eventually others will follow suit and start blocking US products locally. And US industry suffers. Way to go!

Nobody knows the end result. The publicized intent of each was what I am commenting on.

One is based upon maintaining, and creating employment. Will it save jobs?

The other is being done to satisfy retailers. If what Maynard says about PBJ  never being stock anyways, then no help. Just bad publicity.

I asked before. Where does the increased int'l sales price go? Who gets it? I think OD and Denimio, otherwise OD would not offer 3x points.

This is too bad for OD and Denimio, their more effiecent business model is being punished, rather than celebrated.

That is exactly what I meant with my comment to buy somewhere else.

Of course it's a bad solution for OD or Denimio but I think it's hard to find a way where everyone benefits: the shops in Japan, the shops worldwide and also us, the customers.

Stuff like this happens, and so I can understand the desire all the way around. Sort of like Trump wanting to renegotiate trade agreements to create equal opportunity.

Here is what I don't get about PBJ/OD/Denimio. The price increase  charged by OD and Denimio is artificial, and creates no value for the end user. It also creates no value for OD or Denimio, except a higher profit margin when they sell PBJ internationally. In my eyes, the fact that OD and Denimio are unwilling to stand up for their global customers, damages my willingness to purchase any brand from them. OD/Denimio should also not be punished by PBJ for pulling from an international market, I'm sure there are costs associated with that, and because of their market, they probably do more volume. That loss of volume is initially going to hurt OD, Denimio, AND PBJ. Eventually, that will increase the cost of PBJ to the "local" shops that complained to begin with.

PBJ should have just pulled their stock from OD and Denimio, or OD and Denimio should have stopped carrying PBJ.

Since I brought up Trump and America. His renegotiation does create value for the end user, the country, and the job market.

  13. That int'l pricing is crap.

Who gets our extra $? PBJ or the shop that sells internationally?

PBJ doesn't make anything I would have to have regardless of price. They do make some things I would have liked to try, but not with blanket mark-up that has nothing to do with materials and production.

I'm actually surprised the stores didn't just drop PBJ. How does a store explain it to a loyal customer? OD needs loyal customers more than they need suppliers that never keep up with demand.

  14. Looking great BM. Just threw mine in the wash, 2 days of wear.

I'm following your guidelines for preventing the tearing some other people experienced.

What is your inseam at now?
