Who makes (semi) regular production jeans with a cloth, paper or other non-leather patch, and no leather washers or pocket reinforced edges, etc.

I know Roy has done it twice (that I know of), but who knows what he’ll do next.

I second the 60's recommendation.  I have the TCB 60's and love them.  If you've never ordered from denimio, you can get them for about $140 with the first timer discount.

If you want a modern cut, I think that Naked and Famous will replace the leather patch on any of their jeans with a vegan patch of you order through Tate and Yoko and request it when you place the order.  I'd email to ask first.

I got a pair of 501 STF in the spring f/ Levi's website and went TTS in waist and +1 in length. The waist is over sized by 0.5" and I got nearly 2" shrink but it stretched back to tagged size quickly, within a few hours of wear. I got about 2.5" shrink in length. IMO they're one of the best fitting pair of jeans. The cut looks great, they're comfortable, I can move freely in them without restriction, and the pockets are superbly functional - I can keep a folding knife w/ clip in my right pocket and still get my hand in. Pocket bags aren't deep enough tho.

Thanks! Did you get that shrink from a machine wash or tub soak?

  3. I'm not really in the market to buy one now, but since we're on the subject...

I've been interested in the Type I (or possibly Type II) jacket from TCB, but have always been concerned that I'm just too tall for one.  I'm 6' 2" (188cm).  Are any of you of a similar height with a Type I or II jacket? Do the jacket and sleeve lengths work for you?

The sleeve length of my best fitting jacket is about 65cm.  The jacket I have with sleeves that are just a tad bit on the short side measure 61cm.  I've looked at the measurements on TCB's website and Denimio and it didn't help.  Denimio shows the Type I with longer sleeves, and TCB shows the Type II with longer sleeves.

@volvo240thebest If you have a chance, would you be able to share measurements on your Type I and II jackets?  I'm probably a 42, but it looks like the sleeves are the same length for each size.  Not in any kind of a rush.

Just curious, do most of you on here who buy one wash styles usually wash the denim before first wear?  I've been debating this regarding my new one wash pair from Trophy regarding hemming and shrinkage.

If you're going to hem, I would recommend washing or soaking however you plan to in the future.

If they end up shrinking some, you'll be glad you did.  If they don't shrink, then they just got wet and you couldn't wear them for a day...no loss in the long run.

  5. I meant that the difference would stem from the fact that the manufacturer did one set of measurements and denimio did the other. I've looked at pairs on that site in the past where they only had flat for either OW or raw and 360 for the other and haven't been able to fully trust the comparison.

The best bet would be to ask for actual measurements...or to look at the same pair's measurements on Blue Owl...

  7. I *think* that the flat measurements on Denimio's website are done by Denimio, while the 360 measurements are by the manufacturer.  If the OW is flat and the raw is 360 or vice versa, that could explain the difference in sizes you are unsure of.  Denimio will measure an actual pair for you, but it will take an extra few days or a week probably. I recently ordered a pair from them and asked for actual measurements on the chat, but they told me that I had to actually order the pair and note that I wanted measurements, then the pair got shipped from their fulfillment warehouse to their office where they took the measurements.  You have the option to cancel the order if you don't like the measurements they send you.

You'll want to do the chat and order the size they recommend, because then you can ship them back for free for an exchange if they aren't the right size.  If you don't do the chat, the return shipping charges are on you.

This is a very slim cut in the thighs, so unless you've got stick legs, the difference in two sizes is probably going to mean wearable or not wearable.  Make sure you've considered that before you order.

Does anyone here use the full count 6210/6211 wild leather belt? I have one in natural color and have worn it primarily for around 5 years now. The plating on the buckle on the top half is gone and what seems like brass or rust under is showing. Does anyone know what material they use for buckles?

Okayama Denim says it's a brass buckle, so it's probably just the natural patina.

This is my brass buckle.  It started out uniformly shiny, and now one side is considerably duller than the other.

I'd just go with it, but you may be able to polish it.

So I'm about a 30 inseam and I decided I didn't like to stack my jeans anymore so I hemmed everything to my exact length.

The problem I later found out is that when I buy a tapered pair, I basically lost all the taper and have a really wide opening.

The cut is S710, did I mess them up? I find the opening doesn't look good with any sneakers, but works fine with boots.

The 710 doesn't have that strong of a taper, so hemming them shouldn't make that big of a difference.  Maybe the problem is you just aren't used to them without a stack.

I'd recommend you wear them for a while before doing something like sending them to get tapered.  Maybe you'll get used to how they look and like the fit better.

  10. I always used Blue Owl and had good results until the last pair I sent.  The hem width on that pair was much wider than previous pairs.

I later found out that the guy that had previously done all the hems left to start his own shop and took his machine with him.  You might want to email to confirm, but I'm 95% sure he's the guy that would have done my previous hems.  If so, I would highly recommend his work.

  11. My size 33 SL's were probably 34" to start if size charts are accurate, and measure 36" now.  However, this stretch is over a 5 year period where I gradually gained a little weight.

If you can't button them fully when you first put them on, then you got the wrong size and should exchange.  To account for initial stretch, they should be a snug fit, not tight.

just received my 50s jacket in OW, size 42. fits well, although the sleeves are a hair longer than i would like. probably the first time i've experienced this issue with japanese garments.

i assume it's from the wash process, but all of my buttons look pristine with the exception of one which is super rusty. did anyone else's arrive like this?

I got the 60's jeans in raw.  All of my buttons were rusty after the first soak.  It's weird that only one of yours is rusted, but maybe they try to clean up the buttons on one wash items and just missed one.

  13. For future reference for anybody looking at a pair of non-wash 60s in size 34, below are the before and after measurements I took. I didn't use the washer or dryer, but did four hot soaks in the bathtub for about an hour each.  The was no discernible shrinkage after the first two, so they can officially be considered shrunk.

Also, I am not sure if anybody has ordered a pair of 60s direct from TCB recently, but they may have stopped doing the cat ear arcs. I had asked denimio if they had the cat ears prior to shipping and they did not.  They contacted the factory for me to ask if there were any available with the arcs, but they did not.  That was my only disappointment with these jeans, as I was fond of those arcs.  Otherwise, this is a great pair and fits me well.

    Waist 35.5/33.5
    Thigh 13.75/13.25
    Knee 10.25/9.5
    Front Rise 11.75/11
    Back Rise 15.75/14. 75
    Inseam 36.25/33.5
    Hem 8.5/8.25

  14. I am a true size 35, and since most brands jump from size 34 to 36, I end up having to either size up or size down.  I have a pair of XX-012 that I decided to get in a size 34 and only do cold soaks /washes.  They are tight. I still wear them but wish they fit better, especially after washing them.  I don't wear them as much as pairs that fit me well.

My advice would be to save some money and buy the size that fits you at full price.  I think most of the shrink comes from just getting them wet, and that the difference in cold/warm/hot water is negligible and not enough to make up for an entire size.  You mention that the size down is very tight, and the Corlection site says that they are more tapered than the standard XX-011.

You'd probably get more wear out of a pair that fits you perfectly than a pair that doesn't fit that you got for a good price.

  15. Thanks for the advice on the waist.  I went back and measured the inseams of all my jeans, and most are between 33" and 34", with a couple of pairs around 32". I was hoping for a cuff with these (which I normally don't do, but thought it may look good with this cut), but I don't have to.  I usually hot soak/wash in the tub, and wasn't planning on using the dryer.

I think I'm going to go with pair #1.  I can't imagine I'll lose over 3" in length without the dryer.  With pair #2, I think I may end up needing to hot machine wash and use the dryer to get the waist where I want it, but then would risk the inseam being too short.
