  1. quality quality post these, i enjoyed them thoroughly and learned something new. thank you.

may i ask are you a researcher? years back when i did my bachelor in cultural geography this was exactly the thing i had a mind for. strange how things been turning out for me and now i'm still toiling away the days in big bad bangkok haha.

  2. Supposedly, more closer to a 101 - the OKI-815 is based on the 103...

i checked with BiG chart of both 101 and 103, my pair in 31 measures W:31  FR:10 3/4 Th:  12 1/4  LO: 8 1/4, much closer to 103 than 101 (according to BiG).

  3. cont.

the fabric is beautiful. colour is true to light (on a cloudy day) here. the amount of loom chatter on the denim is heart warming.

these little balls of cotton from loom chatter are all over the place.

i inspect the denim again and the colour is a tad bit darker than some samurai Ai i've seen. the darker strands of cotton are about the shade of PBJ Ai.

  4. you asked and you shall received. Well it was just about to rain, so very cloudy. not exactly optimal for taking picture of denim.

  5. @Ben: no not really. My Samurai OGSP have a very similar color and texture and I also have the SC40400 and SC40200, all together 3 natural indigo hank-dyed jeans...so another pair that won't really fade is nothing I "need" :D

we all know it's just a matter of time before SC40300 and SC40500 join their brethren in your wardrobe  B)

  6. they are pretty blue, but natural indigo denim isn't exactly easy to photograph, i'll try to photograph them again tomorrow with proper camera in sunlight.

Worth the cop? methinks yes, as far as a pair of natural indigo is concerned, especially for the price, getting DBXSE would have costed more in USD/samurai in similar denim would have costed more USD or JPY/45RPM definitely costed more/PBJ Ai, Oni Ai, Kapital Ai would be similar in price but the denim wouldn't be as interesting (less variegated shades of indigo). So, really for what they are i don't think they are expensive or overpriced (but still it is high).

Now if we talk about a sense of worth in $600 pair of jeans that's a'nuther story, but that's the can of worm we don't touch here do we?

  7. yes very similar to Samurai OGSP i've seen. never seen dry bones IRL so i wouldn't know. These aren't that stiff though. no stiffer than other 15oz denim, if not less so. i don't think they are heavily starched at all.

  8. so i just got notified i got hit with $50 custom duty. fair play. something's gotta give. i then retrieved these, my first pair of Studio D'Artisan, the D1677 :

the denim is bad mother on this pair, holy, wait til you guys who copped them get yours

    hell just look at this

gaddamn. i suspect these will not be available for long. denim is insane. more so than PBJ Ai i have fondled.

My pair in size 31, measure exactly 31 raw. front rise is 10 3/4, thigh 12 1/2, leg opening 8 1/4. Unfortunately i wouldn't be soaking these yet. maybe in a few months if i can hold off the temptation. would like to work on my contest pair for a while longer, and i got few other unsoak pairs waiting as well. Another pair of jeans is the last thing i need in my wardrobe right now but after seeing them on SDA blog not even 2 weeks ago, i knew my bank account was doomed. no regret!

Got to Thank Mr. Naoki of Pants Shop Avenue too. Very good communication, helpful with every steps of the way and very fast service!

  9. I have seen a few faded pair of hank dyed jeans, especially those made with Nihon Menpu 40400 fabric as a lot of people seemed to have gotten ahold of them. IMO the D1677 aren't likely to age to what we would consider 'sick fadez', if other hank dyed pairs are anything to go by, and personally I do not have that goal in mind for this pair at all.

The difference is also more than hank dyed though as these pairs are also hand dyed and not dyed using hank dyeing machine, so the fabric shows more variation in indigo shades. Also that these used Japanese naturalnindigo as oppose to other pairs using Indian natural indigo (cheaper) and rope dyed. Correct me if I'm wrong. Rope dyed naturalnindigo can fade as well as synthetic indigo though and show more gradation in fades (ie. Not fading totally to white).

  10. as a relative newbies my main regret is having spent those $$$ on pre-washed, 'fashionable' jeans in the days of yore, those diesel, lucky brand, whathaveyou. always feel a tinge of remorse thinking i could have bought Denime XX, Samurai, SDA, LVC, etc. etc. and i still could have those pairs, and might even still wear them in the present. oh well.

as far as sizing mistakes are concerned i have had a few. my first pair of sanforized raw denim, from a brand not associated with Superdenim (Maison Martin Margiela, gulp, my favourite brand outside of the denim/workwear/amerikaji scene, and they make good stuff) were about 2 sizes too big, and i did not think about moving them and get a new pair, so i ended up having to altered them twice, which resulted in the kind of weird shape they are in (fits alight though).

Then came LVC '33, my first pair of unsanforized raw selvedge denim. I was size 32, so the guy at LVC shop in HK recommended 2 sized up per LVC booklet recommendation. As you can imagine i literally swam in them. I boiled soak them 3 times hoping they would shrink more. eventually i settled with the 'historically accurate' fit and rocked them for a year before moving on. Worth it though, as they now serve as my lounging pair and pyjamas haha.

So, fit's definitely important, but having a variety of fits for every occasions couldnt hurt either. Incidentally, all my subsequent purchases has been spotted on with regards to fit, notwithstanding my weight loss which required me to tighten my belt by a hole. i think my body shape ('athletic thighs') has a lot to do with my able to either size up or down one and still look ok fit wise.

and Ben's rigth, wash your darn jeans!

  11. put in words with PSA. he said they'll have these soon. let's see.

one of those days when you stumbled upon a pair of jeans on your Facebook feed and one thing led to another....

so this is a 103 cut right guys? i don't know anything about Studio D'Artisan yet. most jeans i'll be fine in 31, reckon i could go tts and get a pair of 31?

  12. I do have a pair of nc-11bk with a few months and washes in. If you want to see I'll post them tomorrow. Never thought anyone'd be interested in seeing them worn in since like the name implies, they don't fade.
