  1. if it bothers you that much id have it looked at. it seems to take decent photos and it can be easily remedied on the cheap with some scissors.

im not sure what you mean by "close range problem" but if you arent already aware, its not advisable to use a rangefinder camera for closeups. im not even sure they make lenses for that. but im guessing youll be using a stock 50mm lens or so. keep a notepad handy and log your shots. especially at first. a rangefinder is more involved and you need to get a good sense of distance and light to be quick for street photog. maybe invest in an infrared filter and film. or just get some b&w film and shoot from the hip!

  2. i usually x out those ad things on these youtube shits. it didnt actually occur to me it was quiksilver until you mentioned it. in any case, that video was shot in and around downtown. just west of dt to pico/union macarthur park. that shit is dope, and it looks like they went as far east as mission road so technically they were in eastlos. didnt really bother to go south at all which is the last bastion of real LA. to me, downtown has lost a most of its charm in the last decade.

these were my first few rolls ever. still working on composition - i have a bunch of rolls from a recent trip to la and one from local hardcore show that i haven't developed yet.

as you can see all of the shots are skewed slightly to the left. it's this t50. i recently picked up a yashica electro that i'm looking forward to playing with.

anyone else have experience with one of those? the electro?

i like this one. why is it flipped? that offset problem looks like it just needs a tune up. might be a pricey electronic fix cuz those t50s ran on batteries and shit. as for the electro, never used one but i love me a range finder camera. have fun!

  4. the only thing digital has going for it is the price. sure it looks great and its easy and there is a potential for what it can do, but for me, the only reason i use digital this or that is because it is cost effective. id trade its simplicity and speed of outcome for the slow physical effort involved in old forms. the chemical smells, the manual labor, the greater(for me better) potential for error. i remember when i first started cutting video on the computer (as opposed to flatbed), the possibilities of outcome were endless. it used to be that if errors were made id have to embrace it or live with it. now, i could literally sit there for months and tweak away. digital really makes you change the way you approach it. its like you have to remember to purposely inject the beauty of human error into it.

  5. The whole machine is fully automated in terms of development.  You load your negatives into a drum in a dark room and then load them in the machine.  The machine pulls your developer from jugs from underneath and heats the developer to the correct temperature depending on the developing process.  It's actually very easy to use once you have it set up.

oh. thats kind of a bummer. i guess i assumed thered be more opportunities for human error. sounds sorta boring now.

  6. wow! ive always gone to a reputable photo spot to develop color neg. i think that might be an expensive endeavor. you might run through quite a few rolls before you even get a chemical mix you like, and im not even going to touch temp even though it seems like theres no dials for it on that machine, but it should be fun to mess with. youll have complete control over your negatives, im assuming those plus/minus switches are for push/pull, plus you can physically alter your film roll without the lab having a fit. not sure if that would damage your machine though, but id fuck with it just because you can. ive seen chromogenic bw treated with bleach. the results are psychedelic, and u can rock that instagram shit old school stylee with slide film. im jealous, have fun blowing all that money! :)

  7. my dumpy pockets. a friend just hooked up this le thiers after he lost my trusty eka. he made it on the cheap at some workshop in le thiers. its lovely but i prefer the lightweight all wood construction of the eka, its bad enough that i have to lug around a fucken cell phone in my pockets.

  8. i was recently having chinese food with my homie and he got to talking how he should be charging for sherpa service at chinese eateries. see, its not necessarily a specific dish that makes a chinese restaurant favorable, its the ordering of the food. you can go to some recommended joint and get some foodies favorite thing, but for the true experience that dish has to be balanced with all the other dishes that are ordered. theres an art to it and it can make or break a meal. the where, especially in a place littered with above par chinese joints like sf, is secondary to the how. in any case i usually try and make it out to san tung in sunset, its northern chinese, kind of almost korean, but not really. i like the woks at carousel, though theyre kinda on the greasy side. the wonton joint in the financial district on kearny is legit. but its been years since ive been to any of these spots and there is some serious dimished returns in regards to chinese joints that have reps.

as far as date fare, i recently went to aq in soma and it was legit. not sure if its michelin rated or anything.

  9. im sure you can figure it out.

whats weird, though, is the patch is red. every pair of orange tabs ive had are black. of course ive only shelled out for the early 80s joints. maybe in the 70s they were red or something, im sure someone knows the deal.

  10. I recently found a pair of orange tabs that are similar to those, but the tab has a big e. Denim looks similar to the ones pictured above. Patch says 517, can anyone offer any more information? I can post pictures later if it helps.

those are probably 70s 517s or maybe the lvc repros? in any case, theres nothing like finding deadstock levis out in the wild (meaning not ebay/vintage reseller). nice find.

the ones in the pictures arent 517s though.

  11. nah, most his shit is done here. whats he done in france, a couple student films and a tv episode or something? dude looks like kenny powers brother in eastbound and down. not that it matters, but it kinda made him more interesting for a second when i actually thought it was him.

re: butcher bros, yeah i based my opinion off that trailer. its the vehicle that is supposed to generate interest and it really didnt do it for me. am i truly missing something worthy? i kinda doubt it, but tell me what im missing out on. hulu+ content? :)

  12. i couldnt finish hitman, that one gens did about the end of the world with rossana arquette getting turned out and dude from heroes all tough, that had so much promise for the first 15 minutes or so. then it just became grueling and boring and i turned it off. the abcs thing too, not my cup of tea. i saw the trailer for the pulp fiction time traveler joint by the butcher bros and that shit just looked like a movie on the 100th page of netflix.

i guess its personal what one considers a decent rec. personally i dont find gens at all compelling and not really that weird. obscure, maybe based on poor distribution and dudes a foreigner. butcher bros to me look like freebies on hulu. i mean based off that trailer.

maybe begotten? that movie borders on unwatchable, but its a fairly known flick.

for brothers, i like the quays. also along that vein, i remember liking the secret life of tom thumb

  13. awesome! thanks for the help. the vibram site says theyre lighter as well, cant front on that.

yeah, im not so sure if white peaches are mutant man made joints. im just biased against them and feel like all that white flesh varietal stuff is some city-fied hoohaw. its dumb but the yellow peaches seem more down-homey and less uppity if that makes any sense. but i do prefer the taste of regular ass freestone yellow peaches, white peaches kinda taste like diet peach or something like that. just a weaker peach flavor if you ask me. still havent tried those flat peaches. i think youre refering to donut peaches? they look legit though. one of the benefits of living out in the cut, come harvest time neighbors and friends be unloading like whole flats of fruits and vegetables on you, straight from the trees. thanks again for the help!

  14. white peaches are seasonal earlier in the summer. i know theyre widely loved but personally i cant get with those science experiment fruits. gold plums, white peaches, blood oranges, im just not a fan of. i know its just psychological but i feel like they taste more like peaches when theyre the normal orange color. the ones above are elberta freestones, my preference when it comes to peaches.

as far as soles, i know it may seem odd based off the grubbiness of the boots, but stylistically i have a soft spot for the wedge soles. my grandpa rocked em and a rockabilly dude who's styles i always admired wore the pecos wedgies. i'll probably just suck it up and keep dropping them off at the red wing store until these completely fall apart.

  15. What do your soles currently look like? Can we see pics? You may just be resoling too soon.

i drag my feet so they wear down on one side faster than the other. i think i got a few more months left until theyre completely unstable.

got my favorite pair of early 80s orange tab 517s on today

    photo19_zps2b948734.jpg

here they are less than a year ago fresh from red wing

nothing special, just my got my 875s back from their second resole

    photo3.jpg

    ps

how come most the shoes posted look like theyre brand new? cant really determine if they look better with age or maybe dudes dont smash them up.

am i wrong to expect about 2 years from a resole? ive only gotten about 4-5 months serious use out of them and they are work boots.

bonus beats for the momotaros. its pretty much the end of stone fruit season. these are the last of the peaches out back, though im partial to nectarines.
