So true. On top of that the snow is only enjoyable the day it snows. After that all the snow is brown black or ...yellow...

Ehhhhhhh... I wouldn't come here in the winter time. We get really big snows that are absolutely beautiful for a few days, but it's unreliable and happens maybe once every two years on average. 90% of our winter time, it's just cold and grey and all the trees are dead. Come in the spring or fall! Those months have the best weather and the most going on, unless you want to come for some huge party holiday like NYE.

haha. understandably, that's what winter is about. coming from tropical singapore where i grew up, or perth where i live now, that's the kind of proper winter i'd love to experience. winter here is nothing but rain and temps never go below 0 anyways, with no snow. that said, NYE in NYC with the ball drop in times square. absolutely amazing, it's on the list.

Definitely need to come to NYC. If beer is your thing I'll show you around to some breweries.

it's definitely on the bucket list in a year or so. i try to do a major trip every year and UK is the destination this year and back to tokyo again the next. maybe year end 2018 sounds feasible. NYC winters look amazing. and just by your brewery photos, they look delicious already. that perfect golden ale, just right down my alley!

  3. as my leg comes to an end, i've been a little busy the past week with my graduation and having the family over. still, i've had a brilliant time in these before i put them to wash tomorrow. i've started to grow into this pair even though they're a tad big.

  4. haha. thanks. i guess it's the growing up part in singapore that's got me acclimatised to the hot weather. i don't wear much/any jeans under 21oz, especially in the past 4 years. though it's hot here, it's not as humid and i guess that's kinda helped a bit. dry and hot vs humidity and hot are very different. but these jeans feel a breeze for me being so lightweight.

VISVIM prices though........there were the times ten or fifteen years ago (or 20 even - my memory fails me) when FBTs were priced mid 20k JPY now are mid 60k in Japan and with intl premium which still baffles me.

QFT. i've seen this from buying visvim over the years. probably not as long as you, but long enough to see the price hike. problem is, the usd isn't as stable as it used to be. they (japanese brands) know that people come to japan to buy the goods cheaper because airfares are getting cheaper too, this essentially would price the locals out in the long run, and they'd be losing money producing for both, if not the majority of the international market.

i could say simply, they're getting smarter. let's face it, japan isn't what it's like 10-15 years ago when nobody spoke english or signs weren't in english.. you'd had to get a "japanese mobile" if you weren't on cdma as most countries run on gsm.

on my way further into town I was struck by these public restrooms — an extreme rarity on the west coast of North America (I've only seen two functioning ones in Canada, and one in the US). i'm not sure if they are more common in europe than they are here, but I know I never had a problem finding them when I lived in Ecuador and have always been curious about why they're so uncommon in the Western world.

because you'd either get people who shoot up or meth heads hiding out in them. sure there's a number around perth. but most would avoid if possible.. it ain't the prettiest sight..

  7. had a really short day on friday at work, decided to head into the city and check out our new store. i was supposed to set up the new flagship which would've been quite an experience, but we're really stretching the hours of all the staff really thin, so i didn't get the chance to.

our new flagship in the GPO building. the size of the building is just unbelievable. a logistical nightmare.

then pretty much took the day walking around the city, and having a nice cool beer at the pub on a 36C day..

Thanks @louisbosco for the great pics! Interesting Med' Europe feel to some of the buildings.

no worries mate. (i can't explain this right without citing mabo v queensland and the doctine of terra nulilus) but the british were here back in the early 1800s. so it's pretty common to see british influences on building design which would've stemmed from medieval europe. there's a lot of protection with heritage buildings and the use of them.. i guess it's a good measure to protect these amazing structures from the masses of new and upcoming developments.
