There's been some speculation about English denim on here..
Am quite interested in this, so I decided to look through a Daily Telegraph and old News of the World newspaper I have from 1914.
This was all I could find haha

dude, they should totally be looming shit on it. That denim would go for top dollar.
I completely agree man, they seriously need to think about that! You have been told LVC!
Did anyone ever follow/hear from that Swedish brand Blue Highway who managed to source a whole roll of deadstock 60's levis/cone fabric that they were supposidly going to make jeans from?

no sweat dude, when you wash/ rinse them wedge a baking tray or a similar object (that will replicate your waist size) in the waist band when you hang them up to dry, to stop them shrinking. Will be tight at first but will gradually expand..if that fails take them back and complain, customer is always right

off topic has anyone been to Levis flagship on Regent street,London? apparently they have a 100 year old pair of 201 from lynn downey's archive for sale/display??? Can anyone confirm this, might pop in town today and check them out, hope its worth the tube journey! might throw denmark street in there too.

Has anyone taken a look at the actual cotton and how it's changed throughout the period? .
I think its interesting you mention that, don't think there is comprehensive data in regards to vintage fabric. We talk about the designs regularly but rarely the fabrics.
I would wear a lot more repro stuff If I knew the denim was being made in the same way/ on the same machines, quite geeky I know but would be very authentic-not sure how possible that is really, they scrapped the old looms didnt they?
I look at those 1 pocket 1890? LVC from time to time and think that back in the day they must of felt soooo different then, the older you go the better quality the jeans are and there is a reason for that... it wasn't called the two horse brand for no reason. check this video
Paul, your sons 302's are looking great, what happened to the match pocket rivet? I have a pair of deadstock 302's lying around, was going to do a comparison for the blog with an amazing completely worn out pair in a vintage boutique on brick lane but they were sold for £300(yes, really!!) before I even got round to it! `going back to those 302's theres something about vintage wear that is amazing, its very subtle but you can deff notice the'vintage fades'.

What I'm getting at is that there is a clear difference in denim quality in todays stuff and the denim from back then..from what I can see the 60's stuff was hairier and more stiff and all round feels like a better quality product. I am curious as i want to own a pair of jeans like this with out having to pay over $1000 Was production different back then? Cone denim can't of changed there production that much over the years...

Right, I am not trying to provoke an argument with this but am looking for advice
I'm obviously a vintage purist and have a few dead stock 60's levis which were made by cone im guessing?
They tend to be very stiff and 'hairy' compared to modern day cone denim...
Can anyone help me..is there anything out there that is close to this? white oak? japanese? Momotaro is the closest iv seen so far.. Looking for that hairy, thick, stiff denim that you find in old denim that obviously produces the classic fades.
Does LVC have anything like this?
Late 60's 501's

I like their website. What's wrong with somebody else wanting to make jeans, bluegoldblues?
Guess I need to be patriotic here and support english fashion, but please there are too many denim brands as it is offering the same bloody product. This is no different.
Exposed selvage makes me cringe, reminds me of counterfeit levi's from thailand, seems to be a trend these days.. or I'm just too old school.

They are just too cool for school paul!
I recon they are far too used to design teams salivating over their stuff with corporate amex cards thinking that normal people will pay the same...that Levi's type 2 has been in that shop for well over 12 months at £550 I paid £120 for mine!!
Thanks for sharing your last couple of days interesting about soho didnt know that, In december I camped out over night on Berwick street for the latest Banksy print release (Art is another interest of mine) which was an interesting experience to say the least! watching all the punters going in and out of the numerous brothels!

THey're at a store called the Vintage showoom - I've found them really helpful people in the past, altho I found them in a crabby mood today.
Tell me about it!! I find them ALL completely rude stuck up yuppies, looked at me like a piece of shit when I asked to try on that type 2 jacket in your pic,"Do you even know what that is mate?" little do they know that I own one!
Completely paranoid about pictures.. have also asked to look round the showroom on two occasions. "Sorry, No"
and they wonder why they have to stand in the cold on portobello market on a friday trying to flog their stuff with no buyers.
Need to get a grip! Such a shame really as they have a lot of good stuff-at stupid prices mind.

Jeans of the Old West: A History

I know for a fact that the the big university libraries in london have centuries of newspapers on file.
The charity shop I got mine in central london sells them for 50 pence each and there were a few 1800 ones from memory.
Alternatively, a lady at spitalfields antique market sells even older newspapers, at a price though.
What was the name of this factory in lancashire? Paul?
Even from a 'denim hunting' point of view, I very much doubt one could find anything of historical/financial value that you could identify as the real deal.
I'm happy to have a look next time im University of London library studying...
