  1. The brand definitely deserves more attention here...I have worn their rainbow selvage 47 for 4 months now and really dig them. They are of impressive quality imo.

Some nice pieces in their overworks collection

  2. The buttons, belt loops, pocket shape and pocket bags are all lesser quality and quite frankly feel cheaper than regular old STF Levis.

I received a 47 from '11 some weeks ago (got them about 50 % off) and I also think that there's a change in the feel and color of the denim compared to the 2010 47s. Interestingly, back in 2010 I also noticed a change compared to my first pair from 2009 which were much bluer in comparison. (So In my view the current run in terms of color is closer to 2009).

However, the 2011 jean felt a bit lighter and not as stiff in my hand. But for me this is not something that bothers me. It's nearly impossible to have the exact same denim from year to year, i guess. As to the quality (esp. buttons, beltloops, construction) I cannot see a drastic loss in quality.

These are so awesome! What model is that?

As I accidentally found out about fc and am quite impressed with the results I see in this thread, which fc model numbers do compare to a 47 cut, a 55 cut or a 60s cut? And what is the best way to buy fc in europe? Did they loose their arcs in the current run?

    thx

  4. If im remembering correctly LVCs denim is exclusively developed for Levi's. If you want 1955 denim, you need 1955s.

Sorry, I should have said it more clearly. With "the kind of denim.." i meant fabric that is similar, not the same.

  5. Seeing all the pictures of vintage Levis on bluegoldblue's website I am pretty excited about how my 55s have evolved so far, they come very close in terms of the look of denim. It's not as hairy as I think Japanese brands tend to be. This 'quality' -for me- separates LVC from other brands. My 55 feels pretty light and soft, even though it is not hairy.

I don't want to start the discussion all over again, but what other brands use the kind of denim that you see in 55s and 47s. I guess one could mention Roy as he uses Cone denim, as well. But what about bigger brands?

  6. Count me in. Allthough i am not the expert that others on this board are, japanese brands mostly do not have the same appeal to me. Their availability is a mystery for me, as well. While their cut might be more accurate, I actually want the arcuates, the patch etc. And the fabric is great to imo. Look at the results of the cultizm contest...

Maybe some can correct me, but I think I remember that some people here said larger back pockets are more accurate.

  7. I think somewhere in this thread the back pocket changes were already discussed and present before SS11. I don't think the photo really shows the difference. The jeans on the right at least should be laid flat

In terms of overall dimension this pic is quite useless though.

  8. Chances are quality and accuracy will plummet and we will all be talking about "back when LVC was good"

I think that it will always be possible to produce a raw denim pant with the contractors they have now in the US. And I also think and hope that enough people know what 47 for instance should look and feel like. If Levi's could make LVC a profitable brand it also could be good news for us as we would be able to get another pair in the future. But I have to admit that much of this is what I am hoping.

  9. I think if ones wants to get into LVC, the point is not to look what fit comes closest to the standard STF. You should rather enjoy the variety you get with LVC. Also most LVCs beginning with the 44 should give a "normal" fit, i.e. not being too baggy and 'beginning-of-the-century"-looking when sized properly.

The standard STFs I have from 2007 have pretty spacious thighs but seem to be a bit tapered or at least not too straight down the leg compared to my 55.

  10. In my experience the loons would never be able to shrink full 2 inches in waist. I soaked them twice and gave them a gentle wash at 40 degrees. They came out a bit tighter but the fabric streched back sooo easily. So if you NEED them to shrink 2 inches in order to have an acceptable fit, I would try to get a smaller size.
