  1. quick question for you guys. I recently got a pair of Julian Boots off of ebay - (very similar to these http://www.reveilleshop.com/shop/julian-the-reveille-boot/). should I put a shoe tree in them? there doesn't seem to be any harm in it, but I worry that to push it in I'm somehow damaging the top of the boot. in general do boots need shoe trees?

The trees will only damage your boots if they take root in the soles or if the branches start growing through the eyelets. Other than that you'll be fine.

The thing you must remember with trees is that their bark is worse than their bite.

  2. Kiya, can you or anyone else here point me to some better pix of Buzz jeans than what is on HPA's site? Looking for model 1942 M43019N. Size 38 SC 66s and 47s are big on me but I think the waist on the size 36 would be too small. HPA says they can get in the size 37 Buzz jeans, but I'm not finding much of anything about them on the net.

    Setterman,

Here's some BR jeans, but they only go up to a 36:

  3. heads up for london folk.

the three threads in shoreditch is having a closing down sale so there's 50-80% off everything. still a few lvc left, mainly 47s in smaller sizes but a handful of other sizes/styles still available.

this is in-store only, the website has gone. the shop will re-open as an edwin flagship store and may offer a hemming service with union specials.

    peace

  4. Nope, the process of sanforization makes the cotton fibers more pliable and less resistant to snapping therefore prolonging holes/crotch blow-outs, etc. You take the same cotton fibers, dye them the same way, and produce two runs of denim leaving one as is (unsanforized) and one run through a sanforizing machine and the sanforized one will surely last longer.

I don't disbelieve you but I'd like to hear the science on that!

  5. This seems like a good thread for this question. I just rediscovered these shoes after moving, having forgotten them and left them in a garage for over a year with salt caked on. They look salvageable for use with jeans, and I think the distress might actually end up kind of cool if I can get them reconditioned a bit.

I'm looking for some advice as to how to salvage them. I think they might look OK if I clean and oil them, for instance, instead of trying to polish them, just not sure what to use.

Just keep polishing those and they'll look fine. That style of shoes is meant to be polished and not oiled.

  6. Cobblers,

I don't have experience with the 14oz XS-32 denim, only the standard 15oz of my SD-101. According to BiG charts, the shrinkage on the 14oz is slightly less. As far as stretching goes, my size 32 101s have stretched back to about a 33.5-34 waist from a post-soak of about 31.5 (33-33.5 raw). I'd imagine you can expect something similar with the 14oz. Overall, I don't find that they stretch/give as much as other denim of a comparable weight. Hope that helps.

I also have a raw pair of 001s. I sent back my 32s for a 31 as they come up considerably bigger than the 101s, but I don't think they're a true representation of the brand as far as sizing goes.

  7. I'm just commenting on the fit, don't give a hoot whether it's a collaboration or not. Also, owning Flat Heads myself, I know how much shrinkage they're capable of, particularly after a machine wash, hence the comments.
