  1. I have a retarded amount of Mac/Apple/iPhone/iPad/OS X/etc knowledge about technical information, historical information, current rumors, OS 9 through OS X, iPhones, iPad, apps, applications, Adobe apps, design software, editing software, photography, etc.

Please make my retarded technical information useful as I don't know what to do with it.

Either technical help, spec information, technical explanations, recommendations, etc

Also have a lot of experience with Adobe apps, mostly Photoshop but also Illustrator, Flash, Lightroom, etc. Aperture & Final Cut also.

    Ask me (almost) anything.

  2. Friends & nerds,

I am looking for a few Geller pieces - all in size 52:

    - Heavier winter coat - either a parka or bomber

(the black bomber from last winter or the fishtail parka would be amazing)

    56911_1.jpg

    - Fencing shirt (sz 52) preferably black or another darker color

    - Interested in just about anything in that crazy 'petrol' color from F/W 2008, especially shirts shirt size 50 or 52

    - Also looking for older Geller 5-pocket skinny jeans

    Sz 52 or 50

    Looking for almost any color

I have Black w/ bronze rivets (from the current season)

    Navy (from last season)

    Interested in

    Light Grey s/s 08

    Medium Grey (f/w 2009)

    Mustard(!) f/w 2008

    Petrol/ greenish-blue

Dark Purple/Plum (was there a purple?)

    Other colors?

    Thanks!

  3. The Black Cropped Jacket has me thinking of Rock Howard from Mark of the Wolves. I should have checked to see if the knitted bottom of the lounge pants were actually a part of the pants or if it was show only.

    It's gotta be jewelry.

All of the pants have cuffs that you can see - the anklets dont even look like fabric - almost like dyed wicker.

  4. So very nautical.

I think overall it looks great.

    Like:

Mustard bomber (random - its like a buoy in a sea of blues), tan hooded summer . . .parka?, the frayed edge jacket and the lounge pant (that are styled with that weird basket mesh anklet), the shiny pants and the petroleum heather U-neck tee.

Excited to see more of the details in months to come.

Are the 5-pocket skinnys displayed here?

  5. I'm an Art Director at a large-ish international digital agency (advertising & marketing)

I'm technically assigned to Microsoft but have been working on a lot of a particular yoga lifestyle clothing brand recently.

It more than pays the wife & baby bills - but there are tradeoffs . . .

    Corporate Politics. Yuck.

    for the OP:

I have been doing this for 12 years and I still don't have it figured out.

If you're going to pursue graphic design - learn the history.

There's a incredibly massive wealth of inspiration to know about.

Graphic history is the language you will want to learn to better 'express' your ideas.

You don't necessarily have to go to school for it - but it's a good structure to learn within.

If you're already into massive debt - don't do it. Maybe take a couple classes here and there.

    here's what I do know:

    1. Draw. Draw. Draw. Just do it. Practice it every single day. It will save your ass for the rest of your life.

    2. Learn design history.

    Elements of Graphic Design.

    Grid systems in graphic design

    Paul Rand

    Saul Bass

    Max Huber

    Stefan Sagmeister

    Pentagram

read Tony Spaeth's "identityworks.com" for corporate design understanding

And then rip all of them off as much as possible.

(that's what all if us are doing anyway)

    3. Get into something

Find a niche of study for yourself that's off kilter

I started with comic book at 12, then skate graphics, then photography, film, fashion, application design, etc

    4. network.

meet as many people as you can

whenever possible, help them in any way you can

do whatever you can to network to meet other designers, artists, etc

    ask questions, figure them out

    5. Master your tools.

    Photoshop, Illlustrator, Indesign, After Effects

Learn as much as you can as fast as you can - bite off more than you can chew

    6. Practice

Keep going. Be absolutely relentless and work your ass off.

    7. Be ready to work with people

What they NEVER teach you in school is that 60% of your job is working with people - most of whom either don't trust you, don't believe you or disagree with you.

Clients, bosses, coworkers, developers, printers, etc.

Not the funnest part, but it's reality.

Learn which battles to fight and which to leave alone.

Don't sit on your ass waiting for someone to hand you a job. No one wants to hire those people anyway. Go and work.

    8. Design is a skill, not a job.

implement it as you see fit.
