  1. 16.5cm seems way too small. a comfortable hem i find is about 18cm for slim jeans.

That really depends on what size the jeans are. For size 26-28s 16.5 is not way too small at all. The actual hem measurement on a pair of size 28 19cms is 17cm.

  2. Does anyone have any info on this undercoat that appeared on the Fall 2007 runway. I'm after one in a size 44 or 46. If anyone has some pics/info that would be much appreciated, and if anyone has one to sell, even better

This is the one I'm referring to

  3. IMO they are the wrong cut. They should be exactly the same as the 55's, but with a zipper. At least they got a decent repro zipper, not like my 551Z's. But it's that carrot shaped legs that put me off.
I think from what I've read they cut to trim. I've never owned a pair. I hear the early 555 ones are pretty nice. Maybe Dr H could expand on this.

This is what I thought. As a skinny jean I love my '54, but it doesn't even seem like a 501. The silhouette is closer to my Dior 19cm than any 501 jean I have. From most reports I've read it seems like the '66 was supposed to be the slimmest of the 501s (this may also be a result of people wearing them undersized in the 60s). My '54s are definitely a lot slimmer than the '66 though.

  4. And when the really try they can get things right. The 1955s are really good repros as are the 200 and 300 series. My 333s are some of my favs and are good repros. The denim on those is as good as it gets as is the denim on my 209 coveralls and my 555 20 201s. So they can get things right. Maybe if Lynn Downey were more involved in making sure the production is right, I donno but the 1915s are looking very nice from what I've seen.

Have you seen the 1954 501Z? Everyone praises the accuracy of the '55, just wondered what opinions were on the '54.

  5. Personally, I prefer the raw stuff as I never really understood the appeal of pre-distressed denim. Also, there always seem to be one or two non-denim pieces each season that are really great.

Yeh I reckon the Raw's. I have a couple of the washes, they do some fairly authentic looking ones. I also have a 40s leather bomber jacket which is great, definitely one of my favourite pieces.

  6. ...long time listener, first time caller... :)

My lvc 1955 501s are 'Made in Turkey'...guess I was expecting it to be USA?!

But do they still use Cone xx denim, or will it be something else? Seems strange to make them in Turkey out of imported denim?

They still seem really good quality, just wondering really.

Yeh all of the washed LVC jeans I've had have been made in Turkey. My Raw's are made in the USA though. I'm not sure what denim they use on the Turkey jeans, hopefully someone else can answer that.

  7. Thanks teardrop, for me it's a bit late now unfortunately. However, after I washed them now, it does feel like width of the legs narrowed a bit, with a lot of shrinkage in inseam and waist. I'm also usually a 28 - 30 in waist, I didn't wear them in the bathtub just soaked them in lukewarm temperature. I've got no problem with it stretching, actually I hope it does a tiny bit. Will the width ever stretch much/at all, once it gets a bit softer?

Width of the thigh should give out quite a bit. I've had mine for a week now, constant wear every day, and the waist and top block have stretched considerably. Besides the inseam, they are definitely bigger now than unsoaked.

  8. Yesterday I purchased a pair of LVC 1954 501s. Thing is, I'm quite new to denim so need a bit of help or advice regarding the washing part. I bought a size 32x32 waist (since it's shrink to fit), I'm normally a size 30x32, however, I mucked up with the sizing as I didn't realise at the time that the zip will buckle up after the wash. Not a major problem, but it's something I'd rather avoid. So this is what I'd like to do now when washing them first time:

    1. Avoid any pre-mature fades from the washing

    2. Minimise creases from wash

    3. Somehow avoid the zip from buckling up or at least limit it

    4. Avoid any indigo loss, I really like my jeans dark and don't want it loosing a huge heap of colour after the first wash, I know it will inevitably loose some bit of colour, but I want to make sure it's minimal

    5. Make sure it doesn't shrink more than about 1" in the waist so it becomes too tight

I'd planned on hand washing it without detergent in hot water (about 40 degrees, or whatever is the hottest coming out of the tap), is this the best thing to do for the first wash? If so, about how long do you normally soak it for? And in the process, what could I do to limit the things mentioned above? I've been having a look around and it seems like there's no one way of doing it as everyone has their own ways, but perhaps someone with the same pair or similar can share their bit of advice. Anyway, thanks in advance, appreciate just any bit of advice really.

    Best regards,

    Dean

I've found that it's actually better to not size up with the LVC's. Unlike Sugar Cane's and some others, LVC's will only really shrink in the warp threads, meaning your only shrinkage is in the waist band and the inseam. The width of the leg and seat won't really change and any shrinkage you get in the waist soon stretches out.

I have a pair of the 54 501z, bought them around a week or so ago. I normally wear anywhere between a size 28 and 30. I bought 30s in these (the smallest size I could get) and it was fairly firm all over. I wore them in a hot bath for half hour. With a weeks worth of wear the waistband has now stretched out to much bigger than it was before soak.

Just my 2 cents about sizing and shrinkage with LVCs, I know other people are gonna have different opinions and experiences.

  9. Yeh that's pretty much it. I do a lot of tapering/alterations to jeans, it's pretty simple. If you just wanna make them the same as the 19s then just measure 18cm for the hem and take it to the knee.

  10. Agree with Agent A. I know that's an early runway jean, that doesn't make it any better. Just because it was on the runway doesn't make it a good wash, if that jean was done by Diesel everyone would be saying it was atrocious.

  11. Just letting people know, Axel Beers in Adelaide have just had new LVC stock arrive. They have Rigid 1954 and 1966 501's, as well as some washes available in the 1947 501 and 1967 505. 1966 washes are coming in soon as well.

  12. yeah i know that the 19's won't give me the same look in the legs as tragic's. I was not aware he had them hemmed. do you know how many inches?

Not sure man, from the pics I'd say a couple of inches, its kinda hard to tell though without knowing his height.

  13. Tragic's 21s have been hemmed, that's why they look exactly the same as your NS. The 19s will not give you the same look as Tragics 21s. You would have been better off keeping your NS or hemming your 21

  14. maybe you should go back and re-read it?

Re-read what man? This is what it says

Hedi based these cuts off of two A.P.C. cuts. The 21cm is similar to the New Standard, and the 19cm is similar to the New Cure

He said he wanted the same look as TragicBliss' 21cm, well compare that to the look of his NS.
