  1. So honestly uniqlo all made in japan are not all made in japan? Is that not against the law under false advertisement?

And how is mr regular Joe ment to find out where the rivets companies use come from? 90% of their information is in Japanese and even after you translate it does not make sense

So I think it is quiet understandable

The laws regulating what is required for a product to be "Made in country XYZ" are pretty convoluted and illogical, mostly because a lot of it is tied to international tariffs and import/export quotas for various countries. All the components of a product can be made in country A, but stitched together in country B, and still carry the tag "Made in Country B"

"Fugitive Denim" has a pretty good discussion on the topic.

  2. haven't posted for a while, here's what I've been up to. I'll have a full evo at 1 year. These are at 9 months, 7 months of actual wear. They got a break during the summer. Sorry for the shitty quality/angles/lighting.

  3. Levi's 501 STFxx, also in the levi's stf thread.

    1 year, 3 months, 6-7 handwashes.

The red/purple/green color is due to some friends thinking it'd be awesome if my jeans were tie-dyed. Red just happens to show up better i guess. So like the white weft is dyed red. Whatever, they look like shit from the back, but they've kind of grown on me.

Color is pretty accurate in first pic.

Oh you leakin'. It looks like you had your period in them. But besides the embellishment they look good.

  4. I don't get why everyone keeps criticizing Lando's fit. I really don't see anything wrong with it. Plus I think he's the only one to even post a fit pic.

@xelpmoc, i think the fence is throwing off the silhouette of your jeans because they look a little awkward haha.

  5. Just finished hot soaking my friends STF's for one hour.

Here is the water after the soak:

Do they usually bleed this much indigo?

Whats with it not saying 501xx and just 501?

Yes, mine bled a ton. They'll be fine though. But after a few machine washes they'll get pretty light.

  6. I have to agree with that fact that a pair of $300 jeans (designer or selvage/raw/whatever) are not going to outlast their equivalent in cheap Levi's. Even my $30 STF's were as durable as my Flatheads (up to 8 months at least). And I have to admit I was a little disappointed my Flatheads needed a crotch repair.

But the thing is, since I've gotten into this style, my spending in other categories has dropped. I used to spend money on video games, only to play them for a few weeks. Or I would always be looking for the next electronic thing I "needed." Now the only two things I spend money on are my car and denim/clothes. My discretionary income and spending are unchanged. And really, the money I have left after paying all my bills/rent and contributing to my retirement account is "guilt free" so I can use it however I choose.

And for the whole sweatshops thing, I would take a look at Fugitive Denim

She actually interviews a garment worker in a factory (cambodia I think). She also looks at the whole "organic" cotton thing and points out that organic cotton may not be any better for the environment, or the growers/laborers than regular cotton.

Even if Japanese companies do pay their workers higher wages and ensure better working conditions, what about the workers where they source their materials from? What about the cotton pickers/sorters with arthritic pain and respiratory disease? Sure, the Japanese denim companies may be more socially/environmentally conscious because they make sure at least one stage of production is socially responsible, but again, what about everything that happens to the cotton before they get it?

  7. The denim is a little different. The 634 is supposed to be smoother while the 634s is slubbier.

    Edit: from ironheart.co.uk

Q How is your denim constructed?

A The warp (Indigo) thread is one size 4 thread. The weft (white) is made out of 2 threads of size 5.4 twisted together.

Q How is your selvedge denim constructed?

A In exactly the same way as our standard denim, but the weft (white) threads are much slubbier than in our standard denim. This gives a more uneven,"hand-made" look to the denim.

Q What looms do you use to make your denim?

A Our standard denim is made on a 57" "KAKUSHIN-SHOKKI" loom. Our selvedge denim is made on a 30inch Selvedge"RIKI-SHOKKI" loom.

  8. My arcs are just starting to come undone (after 13 months of hard wear, shits tough). It really is personal preference. I just think I would miss them if I took them out since they've been there for so long.

  9. Being back at school for a month made my jeans filthy, especially the car wash the other day. And since I'm not about to pay 1.75 to wash these things when I could it for free at home, I just cold soaked them to get the surface dirt out. I should have some better pictures after a real machine wash in 2 or 3 weeks, maybe a month, depends when I decide to go home haha. But anyways, here's a couple teasers
