  1. ^I've found soaking sanforized denim is good to get any remaining shrinkage out, and also some of the excessive starch that can be uncomfortable, and also cause your jeans to rip prematurely. At least I found this true with skulls. That being said, I don't like buying one wash jeans, because I feel like industrial washing is much harsher on them than if I soaked or even washed them myself.

  2. I"m feeling for poly, and the people who are trying to get this contest together

    ....

If you want this to be a great contest, you have to show commitment to Ande - it's not just about what he can do for you.

yeah, damn, so much hate for a dissenting opinion. Guess rodeo just isn't my thing? Doesn't mean I hate Ande's work or something, his denim thread is probably my favorite to read and follow and I'll be getting a pair of his denim regardless of if its via this contest or not. That all being said, I don't feel an obligation to sit quietly, spend my money, and then end up with a pair I'm really just not fond of and might not wear. Funds just ain't that free flowin'.

  3. ^the issue is the patch is very polarizing. Some people clearly hail it, others are not fans/weirded out by it. I signed up for the contest thinking I was pretty down with any detail combination possible, custom contest patch, special denim, invisible wings etc etc., but the hair-on-hide was something I was totally not expecting.

  4. So I walked into the apartment to find a package addressed to me, with a return address to Russell Moccasin. My "ship date" isn't until Thursday, so I was pretty damn excited. I was about to shit myself as I opened the box. When it was finally open, I practically did shit myself, but for all the wrong reasons. After over 3 months of waiting, they made my hikers in the wrong color leather; brown-red, instead of black as I had ordered. I emailed Russell explaining the mess-up, but haven't heard back yet. I really really really, hope I don't have to wait another 3 months (which would put me on the cusp of summer) for the correct pair to be made:(

That all being said, here are some shitty iphone pictures of the boots anyways:

  5. PS don't have a very large rise, maybe the New Standard would suit you better? It's got a bit of a taper I believe, but not much, more of a straight leg fit. As far as stretching, APC's stretch a shit ton, hence how some people size down 3 and get away with it....the thread is hundreds of pages long, you have to read about a total of 3 to know that.

  6. ^I'm not sure whats the case with the Odori, but with Serge Lutens, if you order any other samples from Lucky Scent, you can email them right after and ask if they'll throw some SL samples in, which they always oblige, assuming they're in stock. I think its some brand image thing with SL where they don't want their samples sold for profit, kind of like how APC doesn't let independent stores post fit pics of the jeans. Best of luck.

  7. I REALLY hope I don't come off as a dick in saying this, but if that's the case, why don't you just buy a special roll pair when they are available? I think the point of the contest jeans is to be a little wild, untraditional.

I def want you to be in the contest, but regular Andes with special denim are going to exist

I was looking to get a pair of Ande Whalls that were unique with cool details, a unique denim, but a still subtle traditional pair of jeans, as I thought was the aesthetic of Ande Whall at this point. To that notion, I would just prefer a tried and true leather patch. And I guess I'm just not too found of the horse hair patch.

  8. I mean, there are some scents that play up the tobacco smell, ei:

(in the off chance you're a girl, or at least don't mind more feminine scents) http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/section/1/item/47710/brand/Etat_Libre_d%E2%80%99Orange/Jasmin_et_Cigarettes.html

that being said, I don't know how either of those actually smell, or how they'd smell mixed with actual cigarette smoke.

  9. ^could do some funky collage or AW contest t-shirts like the heavy weight denim championship.

and on a different, totally newbie sounding note, anyone have experience with KMW rockers and AW sizing? I can still fit into my size 29 rockers (but would probably go with a 30 if I were to buy again), and was thinking of some 32 rakers, but Ande's measurements suggest I may need even a 33. 4 sizes up:confused::confused:

  10. ^digging the indigo wings a lot. Pocket shape looks good, not sure about the lack of a hidden rivet on the outside, but I'm not really all that opposed either. As for the patch ideas, I'm still kind of fond of that little kiwi bird in some form, but whatever gets decided upon is fine.

I'd say the denim choice is up to you Ande, I wasn't thinking I would like the whole "greencast" idea, but the washed swatches looked pretty nice. So, #1,2,3 are all fine with me. Oh and Ande, with those denim options would you be able to give us a price range?

edit: Ande must have so much freakin selvedge on his hands to make that back pocket sample with a selvedge line. :D

  11. yeah, I would say since its a contest pair thats limited and such, we should just splurge on all the details. And personally, I love the aesthetic of belt loops with twine or rope. I'm not so picky about the hem though, or lined pockets. Actually, lined pockets could be nice, my wallet has sufficiently burst through the top half of my half lined kmws.

As for the denim, I vote for a traditional indigo/undyed, warp/weft, preferably something crazy. And I also vote for indigo yarn on the back pocket detailing.

  12. ^agree with everything above, patch design is cool, simple, representative and personalized. And as far as the fit, it seems intuitive that we should all choose our own fits, its an option that isn't necessarily open to most contests that we should definitely capitalize on, imo.

and for anyone unaware, ande posted a picture of the "special roll" option on his site. It's still "coming soon" and the picture doesn't give much light into the texture of the denim, but it has some crazy dark grey selvedge line? And, the 15.5 oz and 14.5oz DLX models are both discontinued. Though the deluxe option seems to be in the works.

  13. I'm not opposed to the deposit system, but I think a lot of us would want some more concrete details before placing a non-refundable deposit. For instance, some pictures of the denim that will be used, and if the cut is set, or everyone can choose their own? (hopefully the latter). And when the contest will actually get underway.

  14. ^I know those jeans were for his leather supplier, but I don't remember them costing $500. If they did, maybe it was all the crazy details he put into them. (Leather button holes anyone?) I'd just love a toned down pair with that denim.
