  1. Been in a bit of a funk for most of my 26th year on this planet. Getting my shit sorted out now. Working full time, paying off my credit cards, reading and writing a ton, and trying to get a project off the ground with a few friends.

Will probably be applying to a handful of top tier creative writing MFA programs. Plan is to only consider it if I can score full funding, as I currently have my older MA debt to worry about.

  2. I'd say the Montana's are at least fully committed to being ugly, where as the New Balances just look like something you'd find clearance at Macy's; boring.

I'd go with the second of those two hats, but I don't particularly like either.

  3. Between Parentheses has been a mixed bag so far. His style is fun enough that even the articles I have no point of reference for (Chilean authors beyond Borges) are enjoyable.

    Picked up

at the sacking of Borders. Getting close to having read everything Phillip Roth has done, can't believe Portnoy's Complaint wasn't higher on my list.

Is the Instructions any good? There's a copy that's been sitting on Borders shelves for a week now that's down to like 15 bucks, but I'm not quite sure what to think of a 1000 page maximalist novel about a kid in elementary school.

  4. That white softshell from 07 with the black taping that made you look like a Bauhaus stormtrooper was dope. How dirt/stain resistant is Schoeller though?

@Cloud_SB Yea, Wililam Gibson's love for ACR is so great. Saw him at a book signing and he was head to toe in the stuff, with a maxed out 3A-1. Talked with him about it a bit.

  5. Finished "Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned". Absolutely awesome short fiction. The titular story hits like a sack of bricks, though my favorite may be "Leopard", spooky as hell.

Have to say I find myself laughing throughout "The Edifice Complex". Deyan Sudjic is such a dick to Rem Koolhaas and Albert Speer (and his son, holy shit @ the whole wanting to rip his pocket watch out to reveal a Nazi inscription) Anyone else have any recommendations for expert critics just shredding apart people? Stuff in the vein of Eliot Weinberger taking a huge dump on the New Yorker and Susan Sontag.

@Baeyer-Drewson Liberation by Brian Francis Slattery is some solid dystopian fiction. Check it out.

@Sugar Mountain. No, I haven't read The Tin Drum Before; one of those classics I feel like an asshole about having not read.

  6. a well written book about the PUA lifestyle/subculture. a culture i will probably never partake in, but i must say, the non fiction story telling is awesome.

The audiobook of this is the single most hilarious thing I've ever heard. Neil Strauss sounds like a New York cabbie with bizarre English affectations (Con-dome instead of condom, Your-eye-nal instead of urinal) It's a really, really fun book.

  7. some info on dis?

Sorry for late response. It's by Jean Baudrillard and is a collection of musings and thoughts he has on American society. Some genuinely awesome things to be said about the mythic west and freedom in a physical sense. I'd suggest checking it out; quick read.
