  1. Denim works pretty well as riding gear. Not as good as leather or kevlar weave pants, but they breath better and your legs don't get cooked during summer. Sure, you'll destroy your jeans if you come off, but I bet it'll take me less time to save up for another pair of $300 jeans, than it would to grow back a square foot of ass skin.

Scooters scare me. Those little wheels, substandard brakes and high centre of gravity make them feel unsettling. I've ridden down the Wayne Gardner straight at Eastern Creek raceway on a Fireblade going 160mph and it wasn't as scary going 40mph on a scooter down the backstreets of Summer Hill.

For those that are interested. I ride a Suzi GS500. Nice little commuter which serves my purposes until I get the points back on my driver's license. I usually wear 15oz moleskins, though lately I've been wearing my SC 55s ( I knew that baggy ass would come in handy for something):)

  2. I don't know how someone can go 4 years without washing their jeans. crotch fungus is not nice. I like to keep things nice and simple. I wear my jeans, when they start to smell a little like ass (not stink of ass from a foot away), I give them a cold water wash with a little vegetable or plain laundry soap (I stay away from enzyme/phosphate based detergent) and then hang dry under shade. A bit of salt in the water doesn't hurt either (i think it's supposed to stop indigo bleed or something. truthfully, i've never seen any difference either way. if i forget the salt, it doesn't bother me). I also chuck in some powdered clothing starch (cheaper than liquid or spray) in the rinse water, just enough to get the jeans crisp, but not in anyway rock hard. My jeans fade fine for me this way. Of course, that's me. jeans are jeans, doesn't matter if they cost $30 or $300, they're clothing. I've only got so much spare time, and it's better spent on things other than getting the right ratio of starch, or the right angle of bend on the knee for maximum honeycombage, etc...

If you really want frustration over lack of fade and whiskering, try wearing 15oz moleskins. 5 years of motorcycle riding and my fav pair was just coming about before my current jeans obsession. now they're tucked away with my other pairs of moleskins, that i never have the time to wear.

  3. Eh, I think those Oni Shoais are too expensive at USD$550, but I still want a pair (not going to happen though).

I want a pair of sexiho's because they're not like any other jean on the market atm. I'm not too familiar with dior 21s but they look a lot like a 21oz version of Imperial Dukes (the cut of which I LOVE), and that would be more than enough reason for me to purchase a pair, even with the premium price.

I'm sort of hoping and not hoping all the size 33s get sold out by the end of the opening week. (Aussie dollar is at 80.5cents american - KEEP ON GOING YOU GOOD THING!!!).

  4. You know, I've looked on this thread from time to time, thinking, "SExIH? With the Dior 21 cut? 21 oz denim? That's nice..." Having never actually seen or felt 21oz denim, or seen a pair of Dior 21s in the flesh, I suppose all this hubbub over USD385 dollar jeans was just mildly interesting. Now that I've actually seen these freaking things actually worn by someone... Oaw man!!! Not that I'm in any position to purchase $385 dollar jeans at the moment, but I'm looking very closely at the current value of the AUD (80US cents and rising). Hoping for some kind of economical disaster that will have us in the pre 1974 price of USD$1.43 for every AUD$1.

Actually, here's hoping that all 100 pairs sell out before any make it to the online store, because right now my credit card is screaming at me.

  5. I've had too many zippers break on me, no matter how much I've tried to baby them. I have never had buttons on jeans pop on me (although those tin ones on my cheapie STFs are looking a bit suspect). And plus, those little round wear fades on the front look nice.

As for this thread, I think it's pretty pointless. I would love the equivalent of BiG or SE in Australia. Then I wouldn't have to gamble on whether or not the jeans I ordered from Japan are going to fit or not. Getting to have the jeans, in your hands, on the day you purchase them is worth a premium, IMO. I've lost too many things in the mail, had too many credit card authorisation stuff-ups (leaving me stranded on a date once, not being able to pay for a meal), and then there's the freaking waiting for it to come. I've walked into Another, tried on three pairs of Imperials, paid CASH and walked out the store wearing them. If I could do that for any number of Japanese jeans such as Samurai etc... piece of mind is worth a lot.

  6. This'll probably bump this but...

I've gone and bought yet another pair of jeans. A pair of Ande Whall Cougars. But only because V3 was closing up. I was planning to purchase these around May, but had to step it up (pushing my Alden Indy purchase to sometime in July). I can almost guarentee that I won't be purchasing any more jeans (at least until May that is, when chutes starts up his proxy service again - hopefully), since SDA 21oz are sold out EVERYWHERE ( that ships overseas).

  7. Were your APCs cures? I'm pretty sure that at 5'7" 135lbs, you could fit into a pair of slim jims with little difficulty. It just depends on what type of cut you want. I'd suggest sizing down if you go with the Nudie raw denim and not the wash, as the raw ones are usually one inch wider in the waist than tagged. And the waist stretches. Trust me. The legs don't really stretch, but (not that I can accurately tell from your stats cause everyone's different) it doesn't seem that you'd have really big thighs. I'm 5'9" 180lbs and have 23 inch thighs (measured at mid-thigh and not with the abductor muscle, for certain individuals who bodybuild and 'cheat' their leg measurement). At sz 34, I abolutely could not fit into a pair of slim jims (and I tried, believe me). I like the regular ralfs, but while comfortable on the legs, they weren't snug and the waist went from comfortably loose to needing a belt on all the time. My next Nudie purchase (I think it's about 6 pairs of jeans down the list now) will probably be a sz 32 Straight Svens. I just hope it doesn't turn into a SF fit.

  8. I have my slims (dukes), my normal jeans (RRDS), my comfy jeans (SC55) and my "got them so dam cheap but never wear them" jeans (Nobody). Don't know where my Eternals are going to fit in.

I've become a bit of a selvage snob as well. everything i own is selvage. I've ordered a pair of levi stfs to cure me of that though...

  9. argh! damn you viv with your obsession over these jeans!!!!! I didn't even know these jeans existed before I started reading your posts!!! Well, I had to get a pair, didn't I?

lol, just kidding viv. got my 868s (jean no. 192) in the mail yesterday, but didn't get to open them until this morning. they fit pretty well. sz 34, a bit loose in the waist, but the thighs feel good (got 24 inch legs - former junior powerlifter). A soak should bring the waist in a little, I hope.

Love the streakyness. it's like a waterfall pattern that runs down the legs. They're too pretty to wear out. Nuts, feels like I should have gotten two, so I can frame a pair (which is what I'd do if I ever bought those Shoais - $800AUD shipped!!! In my dreams).

btw, the reason why the bigger sizes don't sell in JP is because no guy has a waist bigger than 30 inches. well, that's the impression I get from all those JP fashion mags.

  10. I had that same dihlemma when I got my dukes. I tried on both the Dukes and the Kings, and the Dukes just stacked better on the bottom, even though the Kings were more comfortable. That one extra inch in the leg makes a huge difference in how it feels compared from one cut to another.

  11. I was definitely sad to see them close too. And they didn't have a big closing down sale or anything (well, not that I heard of). Just a few signs that everything was going due to them closing down. I only heard about it through my brother's GF who worked there on the weekend. Managed to make my way down and grab a Gowings brand lambskin leather jacket for $240AUD (something like 60% off I think).

It was kind of strange to see the old Gowings building on George St just empty like that. That store was a real Sydney landmark. A couple of months after it closed, I went into the city to discover it had been turned into a Supre outlet store (NOOOO!!!!!). For those that don't know, Supre sells low priced womens clothing that'll only fit girls in single digit dress sizes (and Australia is 4 sizes higher than women, so a size 6 is a size 10 here - I think...) Gowings was the place to go to buy all the cool weird stuff that you couldn't get anywhere else before the internet came along. kangol hats, hacky sacks, electric scooters/skateboards, obscure manga T-shirts, etc... I used to go there for all my RM moleskins. Ah... so sad.

I heard around that the Gowings building was bought up by Apple to become their new megastore here in Sydney. Anything has to be better than Supre.:D

  12. indigo_junkie- do you have an especially wide foot?

Um. wide-ish. Depending on the boot, I either go with medium or wide (say a D or E). I fit an 8G on the RMWs (G is supposedly their medium size). But the Henley's have the widest toe box of any of the RMs, so I'd probably fit a 8H on say a Craftsman (which is what I believe a similar shape to the Baxter).

nb: GAh! What happened to the original Baxter site? the new Baxter site looks like it was done as a highschool web design project.

  13. Freak me, starting reading this thread 4 hours ago and now it's 1am, and i have to go to work tomorrow.

don't know too much about baxter boots. tried them on when Gowings was still open in Sydney (before they opened like 3 stores and then went belly-up) - I think. It was about 6 years ago - could have been some other boot, but I'm pretty sure it was the Baxters. Remembered the quality to be excellent, just as good as RMW for about 2/3 the price, but way too narrow for my foot and ended up getting a pair of RMW Henleys. Then Gowings had their annual sale and I ended up buying another pair of Henleys in the space of a month. One brown and one black. for an unemployed uni student, that probably wasn't one of my best decisions.

I'll try and post some pics later. I've kept them in great condition, mainly due to me babying them outrageously. trying to get some wear in them now, so that I won't feel so guilty when I fork over $800AUD+ for my shell cordovans.

This thread's going to destroy my credit rating. :(

  14. Aren't APCs vanity sized? Wouldn't know since getting a pair of NS over to Australia from either Europe or the US would cost me about $220AUD+ and for that price, I'd rather stick to Imperials.

  15. Got a pair of ETERNAL 868s coming my way. I swore I wasn't going to buy any more freaking denim after my SC 55s. but I couldn't help myself. Once they get here, I'm going to cut up my credit card and delete certain websites from my favourites (he says with his fingers crossed).

  16. Nice pics. Reminds me when I got my pair of Dukes. The guy at Another (Sydney) suggested the Kings, because I don't usually wear slim jeans. I went with the Dukes because I thought they looked better on me than the Kings, (even though they were as tight as heck). I had a bit of a panic attack once I got home though. I have largish legs (23 inches - much smaller than from my bodybuilding days when I had 28 inch legs, I only wore shorts back then) and the jeans were so tight on my thighs, the weave started to look as though it was distorting. The waist was pretty tight too. but after a solid week of wearing, the waist stretched out and the legs just feel comfortably tight. I have them around whenever I get the urge to wear slimfits (even though they're more of a straight leg jean - compared to my RRDS and 55s, they're def. slim) I've got to stop looking at those pics, because I might get the urge to go down and get me a pair of black Dukes.

  17. Just an update on my 55s. Did a hot wash and then stuck it in an industrial dryer for 20min (it's almost hypnotic how it tumbles around like that). Indigo bleed wasn't too bad. The inside pockets were stained blue a little, and it's a bit bluer overall. The fit feels completely different though. Lost 2 inches in the cuff (fits perfect now), about an inch in the waist and like 2 inches in the seat. Had to struggle a little to button it on at first (it's a 34 btw), but by the end of the day it stretched out to just a little tighter than the raw state, and it should loosen up to what it was before in a few days. The major change was the seat. It doesn't look huge anymore. It's still loose, but I didn't buy these thinking that they were slimfits.

  18. I just got my pair of no wash 55s a few days ago. fits comfortably on the waist, but the seat is HUGE. people at school were telling me that they look like i've got nappies on underneath. I'm going to drop by the laundromat before school tomorrow and give it a hot wash + hot dry and see if that helps. The jeans looked good lying flat, and are really comfortable to wear (loving the rough slubby feeling and the hairyness - much more rougher than my nudies).
