  1. Not that it's a big deal, but I also have the CJ Belgraves, and they are different from the RL's here in a couple of ways.

The Belgrave have a closed channel sole whereas the sole on the RL isn't closed, and another difference is that the RL has a rounded toe, which is quite different from the slightly square toe of the 337 last.

Even though I'm quite sure the RL is not a Belgrave with another name, it could still very well be by CJ, as far as I can see from the nail pattern on the heel.

You are correct sir. I gave a quick glance at that solitary picture and made a snap call. These are C&Js however--they have a history of making better made RL shoes.

  2. I find it interesting that all notions of voting in this thread apply only to the presidential election. If this were all that was on the ballot (or if voting for president were the only thing required of us as voters), then I might better understand some of the cynicism expressed here. Don't get me wrong, I agree that the electoral college is problematic, that candidates are less than ideal, that the two party system has a stranglehold on national politics--the list goes on and on...

However, a few weeks from Tuesday, I will also vote regarding:

-Whether or not my state will repeal its income tax

-Whether possession of less than an ounce of marijuana will be decriminalized

-The people that will represent my state in both the house and senate

And many more. Several of these votes will be very close, and I'd like to think my vote may "count." As a bonus (that might be a good way to think about voting for president), I'll check out the top of the ballot and vote for Obama (thereby wishing McCain and Palin into a bottomless pit).

  3. i'm rocking on my new macbook right now... 2.4ghz with backlit keyboard. pretty fresh overall. i like the aluminum case--slightly worried about scratches, but we'll see. screen is crazy thin. more later...

  4. Interesting thread... I never noticed it before.

I like Serge Lutens, although honestly the Vetiver Oriental isn't my favorite--some of the Malle vetivers are significantly better in my opinion--l'eau d'hiver (or something like that)? Speaking of Malle the 'bois d'orage' is the shit! But for Lutens, for this fall I'm rocking the Chene. I smell like I've just been out in the woods chopping logs, in a Parisian sophisticated kind of way.

  5. seriously.... what is up? i'm about to go vandalize the apple store out of frustration. the word is (has been?) there will be an announcement on october 14th. and my word is that there will be hell to pay if i don't have the new MBP in my greasy clutches on october 15. i officially have my hopes sky high for the 14th...

  6. Uh...I'm not sure how I was talking shit by mentioning the urge to purchase a New Hampshire bus ticket...sorry to offend...I don't drive and I like New Hampshire plenty, especially because they house the homebase of Limmer (happy times now Grilled Cheese??!?!?!).

That being said, I like Limmer quite a bit, but I'll be damned if I'm waiting 3-4 years for an order of ANYTHING to wear (the Kanye West/Marty McFly Theory).

And even more serious, can you give us more info on how these fit (half size, whole size large...dare I say, true to size...etc.)...and can you supply us with more photos or even a fit pic?

I was joking about your NH transgressions. In terms of more substantive matters, I will answer as many questions as I can, but I would first just like to state that Limmer needs to be respected, for real. The word "artisinal" gets thrown around a lot, but these guys are master artisans of the first order. It's a world renowned family business featuring three generations of bootmakers. I could go on and on about them, including the special Bavarian leather that they use that no one else in the world uses and their impeccable bootfitting wizardry, but let's just say that they are the real deal.

By the way, I spoke with a friend last night who goes to the shop frequently--he said that last time he was ther, Peter Limmer said that the list for customs was at SIX years, and that the price of customs is north of $600. This may seem insane, but I personally know hikers and mountaineers that have Limmers that are over 35 years old--and still going strong. For people that live to hike, and also have incredibly hard to fit feet (different sizes, crazy bunions, etc) there is no other option. The guys are known as miracle-workers in this regard.

As far as fitting goes, I'll hedge a little bit by saying that the different boots have different lasts, but in general--I'd say that most people I know agree that they fit large by one FULL size. In other words, if you normally wear a 9.5, you'll take an 8.5 in Limmers. Also, these things can be HELL to break in. For those of you who know the pain associated with breaking in a pair of Vasques (especially in the city), multiply that agony by five and you're in Limmer territory. But it's all worth it.

Pictures are not possible for me right now, but here's a couple to hold you over...

  7. First Limmer boots are fucking classic. I repeat classic. There is to be 0/none/zilch shit talking about those in this thread. The rest are whatever. The last is hideous. Good looks on the info Bay, I'm on my way to New Hampshire.

Indeed, we agree. And while we're at it, I will submit that there will be no shit-talking about New Hampshire (heBay my man, consider yourself warned with that bus ticket comment)...

I have a lot of experience with Limmer and I like them a lot--I think you kinda get the sense from the pics, but these boots (even the "ultra lights") are VERY heavy duty--probably moreso than anything else discussed on this thread (Danners, and the like).

I wouldn't necessarily count on them being "quick to respond." They're VERY old-fashioned, in mostly a good way. The shop in NH is incredible and the boots are incredibly well-made and well-serviced. I should also mention that you can get customs done as well, but last I checked the wait was 3-4 YEARS and you had to go to the shop for the fiiting, so unless you're really committed you'll probably be stuck with off-the-racks.

  8. I've been running a lot since we last checked in. I'm clocking about 35 miles per week, have trimmed down a bit, and gotten a lot faster. Too bad I also have some nagging knee pain and some troubling nascent foot pain as well--seems like I'm getting a bunion on my right foot! I guess it's tough being 30+...

  9. VINTAGE LEE STORM RIDER JACKET--$50 shipped to the US

Size (I think) is officially a 40-42, but this jacket is best for a slimmer 40 and maybe even down to a 38 that is looking to be able to wear a couple layers underneath. I'm a bigger size 40 and this jacket was just a bit too snug for me. Made in the USA, in unbelievable condition. It hasn't really been broken in yet and is just asking for someone to do it--no noticeable fading save for on the very ends of the sleeves. It has the previous owner's name written in marker on the storm rider tag and on the inner waistband, but not very noticeable.

    Approx measurements

Chest Pit to Pit- 42" (this is a bit misleading--don't forget about the insulation)

Length (from bottom of collar)- 25"

    Sleeve (from shoulder seam)- 24.5"
