  1. For sale I have a pair of Samurai Geisha's with red "Geisha" tab from Japan, new with tags and never worn, and chainstitched by BIG to 28.5". These are one-wash (I've never seen Geisha's in raw state) and are size zero (0). Pics to follow. $260 shipped to the United States. I will ship abroad but it will cost a little more.

  2. From Hunter S. Thompson's Hell's Angels...

"Every Angel recruit comes to his initiation wearing a new pair of Levis and a matching jacket with the sleeves cut off and a spotless emblem on the back. The ceremony varies from one chapter to another but the main feature is always the defiling of the initiate's new uniform. A bucket of dung and urine will be collected during the meeting, then poured on the newcomer's head in a solemn baptismal. Or he will take off his clothes and stand naked while the bucket of slop is poured over them and the others stomp it in.

These are his 'original', to be worn every day until they rot. The Levis are dipped in oil, then hung out to dry in the sun - or under the motorcycle at night to absorb the crankcase drippings. When they become too ragged to be functional, they are worn over other newer Levis."

Obviously i'd try this myself but I, umm, don't have a bike.

Haha, I think you just inspired some new antics in the Fullcount contest. ;)

  3. I just contacted nom de guerre and oliver peoples regarding iloveglasses, sunglassesavenue and smartbuyglasses websites, here's what OP had to say:

"The websites where you are looking to buy Oliver Peoples are not authorized sites and are selling our product without our consent. Since they are not authorized sellers, I cannot guarantee the authenticity of the product. In addition, if you choose to buy from them, the warranty will be null and void."

This is exactly what any company will say when asked about grey market or even second hand sales of its products. Basically, what fogg said is correct and that is about the end of the authenticity conversation.

  4. from looking@the pics a few pages back it seems that the factory 45rpm uses doesnt have the warehouse-originated attachment that completes the chainstitch all the way to the end of the waistband. i love 45rpm, but i cant pay over 5 bills for if all the details arent there. even lvcs have that...

salaami, i could have sworn you were wrong about this, but i just checked my nandos (had to bring them into direct sunlight to see with the black thread they use), and sure enough--you're right. i don't know, 45rpm is still my favorite though. and i know you've mentioned the good job that BIG does with its hemming (i agree), but 45rpm (at least in nyc) do it right too. it's rope city with my nandos.

I guess a lot of people haven't heard Soul Finger, and it's a damn shame. I suppose the only reason I've heard it is that Art Blakey's nephew is a good friend of mine, and has almost all of Blakey's catalogue in original LP format. I'm fairly certain that the only re-release Soul Finger has seen is on CD for the Japanese market only (the story of my life). While there are tons of great records in this bundle that we've explored together, we keep coming back to Soul Finger because it's such a strange lineup, and it's recorded at such an interesting time. While the soloists are starting to stretch it out and take it further, Art stretches too, but he's still keeping time (and an a very remarkable way). I could say a lot, but the main thing is to hear Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard playing on the same record, sounding so astonishingly different, but perfectly wondrous in their own ways. It's a gem worth searching for. Happy Friday.

  6. Saw McCoy Tyner this Friday night. I thought it might be my last chance to catch him in this life world. I wasn't expecting much, maybe a 30 minute mini-set, but to my surprise McCoy and the boys put in about 80 minutes of non-stop WORK. Beautiful sheets of sound warmed my noggin. Gary Bartz was doing his thing too. Worth checking out if it's coming to your town.

  7. frankly 10% of the boots in this thread are mountaineering

and 1% of those are high fashion

this is just superfuture's OTHER boots thread

I submit the following novel conundrum to the aforementioned existing conundrum.

    They are White's Mountaineering.

These check off so many "awful" boxes that they almost (but not quite) loop back around to join their White's brethren in the axis of awesome.

  8. FWYS, I'm fully endorsing Bright Size Life. I avoided Pat Metheny for the wrong reasons (the doofus component of his fanbase) for far too long. And now it's time to publicly repent. Also, you've got to love how Jaco fits in (and sometimes doesn't fit in but in very interesting ways). Good record.

  9. I came within a hair of buying the MR Ski Sweater from Garbstore but renegged at the last second in a momentary panic induced by the "global economic crisis." One medium left for you dudes out there. Yes, it hurts, but me and 45rpm have plans for this weekend.
