^Yo I think a lot of black kids take it personal when another one is kicking it with white folks/other races, but often its because theres a difference in core interests. Why does a black kid always have to kick it with black kids? That shit can be stifling. Its lame to be forced into certain temperaments because other people expect you to act/be a certain way.

I dont believe in that "talented 10th" bullshit but theres way too few of us and my interests are way too broad to be afrocentric.

This is somewhat true, the black people in my school dont like me because I associate with everyone and dont just hang out with black people all day doing shit. I call it the hood complex like just because we share the same skin color doesn't mean I'm suppose to be like a robot like everyone else there. Once your black and you try to go out of the box people just start to judge the shit out of you. Because the average young black person doesn't care about previous rap , i already explained this before. There are still the millions of black people who are aware though and know about the history. The bad thing is even though you might know more than average black person some people will put you down just because your ethnicity dont hold your badge up there so high buddy. They dont care. Sounds harsh but its the truth .

I don't know if this is true, because I live in Canada, but why don't black teens like old hip hop? From my experience on hip hop forums, it always seemed like black kids were only on that new-new, whereas white kids usually get into tribe, wu tang, dre, jay-z, kanye, and wayne all at the same time, whereas it seems like black teenagers more often get into stuff more like Fab, Wayne, etc or at least they did a couple years ago when I was more interested in what other people thought about hip hop. Matter of fact, how do black kids get into music now? Is BET still respected?

These days in Canada hip hop is a pretty niche genre, in Toronto there is only one non-college radio station that plays it, but also mixed with dancehall and rnb. So I don't really know the difference in exposure except from what I've seen from my time in the states, but it seems to still have a lot more radio play and attention in the media overall.

Because most black teens are influenced greatly by mainstream music portrayed on TV , most dont want or care about previous hiphop history. I dont know I see this as an constant cycle sometimes like people dont listen to Jazz anymore,but miles davis is still played and such. I would say people are not grasping music, this is the internet age yo could pretty much find any type of music ,or hiphop for instance on the web. Like I said before they are just stuck in the mainstream bubble. They dont care about 9th , dilla,premo etc kind of beats they see that as old school. But people who arent black sometimes hold up that type of music, it'sall about personal preference I guess. I'm the type of person who could listen to anything and appreciate it musically somehow I dont shun the mainstream records , they are meant to make people move in parties/clubs and hiphop was kind of started on that. I just want to see an overall balance and not an oversaturation of the same music, but on different beats. After sometime it does get repetitive and boring. Sorry If im just rambling here.

edit - BET is still respected for coming out playing only black music where other channels were not at all. Now its all different I remember you could never see black people on VH1 now you see black people in coonery shows acting up, its funny sometimes lol ill admit then i shake my head lol . BET is pretty much MTV and VH1 they are all owned by the same company Viacom, I respect BET for what they did at first , but where theyre going is not a good look, its all about the $$$ at the end of the day I guess.
