  1. i think someone should build up one of those bike island lugged frames. i wanna grab one to get a single speed, because they look classy as fuck, but money is better left in my bank account right now.

Man, shame about the cable stops on those. Useless if you have no rear brake, and they get caught on your pants all the damn time if you're not using them. If they really want to make these things SS capable for people that don't want to run a super long piece of cable housing, they should make little holes similar to water bottle braze ons on the bottom of the tube and little cable stops you can screw on if you really want them, that way people that don't run a rear brake don't have to look at those damn braze ons all the time.

  2. IRO Mark V>Pista>Kilo

IRO's got the best components out of all of them. Kilo has nice geometry for the price, but I was sorely let down by the quality of everything else. 350 sounds like a deal until you have to replace cranks, rims, BB, and pedals due to them busting.

7+ months going strong on all of that, except the pedals. The pedals are shit when they're new, horrible bearings.

  3. Had mine for 6 months, riding it at least (very often more) 5 miles a day, hopping curbs, doing wheelies, getting hit by cars, and still nothing broken or even bent.

    worth $75?

"FOR SALE IS THIS NICE MENS VINTAGE BIKE. THE SCHWINN WORLD TOUR. BIKE IS 34 1/2" STAND OVER HEIGHT.STRAP ON PEDALS,NICE SEAT,GREAT BRAKES,GOOD TIRES,SUN TOUR DERAILLERS,SMOOTH RIDE."

Depends where you are. Bikes are generally worth more in big cities. I'd say it was worth it in LA, where even in Goodwill bikes are at least $40 and you rarely find a decent one.

  5. dont get technical if you are just quoting sheldon brown

and no they arent for tradition more then anything else they are there because you dont have a tensioner on a track bike. the tension is set by moving the wheel back.

You can do exactly the same thing on that bike. It's got horizontal dropouts. And if Sheldon Brown isn't an authority then I don't know who is. He knew more about this stuff than any of us ever will.

  6. i dont see how thats bs. bmx and track bikes have horizontal drop outs for a reason. unless he has an eccentric bb he or shouldnt be doing hard riding on it

#1 That bike does have horizontal drop outs. (See: http://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_dr-z.html#dropout )

#2 Track ends are more used out of tradition than anything else. I guess there is the marginal benefit of horizontal position of the rear wheel not affecting the height of the rear of the frame, but that's pretty marginal, and largely irrelevent for anyone but the stickiest of sticklers. People do plenty of "hard riding" on track ends, horizontal dropouts, and vertical dropouts without their wheels falling off.

  7. i would say no because it doesnt have track drop outs its not safe riding road drops with a fixed gear.

What? With all the legitimate reasons that that Peugeot's not a great deal, I see no reason to make up BS like this.

  8. bikeforums just had a huge purge of users. fuck that. we started a new board.

    www.tarckbike.com

fixed gear bullshitting and other nonsense.

So does this mean I should make fun of BFSSFG for being uptight and tarckbike for being full of retards instead of BFSSFG for both?

  9. Anyone here know how to remove a striped chainring bolt?

I removed 4 out of the 5 chainring bolts on my chainring, and on my last one I messed up and striped the threads..

Is drilling into the bolt the only option I have?

Do you mean you rounded off the allen key hole on the front? You could try loosening it from the back with a wide flat head screwdriver. Mind you, you'll still probably need a new one just because you won't be able to tighten it properly.

  10. u dont have to be going very fast to do it. just have faith and really lean into it. lean with your body and pull your legs into it.

Word, it just takes confidence. I didn't really start to get it until I tried doing it with a couple beers in me to kill the fear of falling.

  11. you're talking about bikesdirect right? go for the kilo. i just got mine like two weeks ago and it rides great, the parts are pretty decent considering they're stock but the geometry rides a hell of a lot smoother than my conversion, plus the chro-moly frame still manages to be pretty light, as far as modifications go i'm probably getting nitto bullhorns and a different wheelset, but the truvativ cranks are holding up pretty well and the ratio is perfect (48/16) and it's a great upgrade from the 42/14 i was previously running on.

I hate to break this to you, but 48/16 and 42/14 are the exact same ratio.
