  1. Decent? Yes. Hot? I wouldn't go that far. Fiori was another brand sold by Norco. You're probably familiar with another one of their brands: Nishiki, and I don't think anyone considers those sacred. It's not like it's a Merckx with full Campy parts or something.

  2. why do you guys ride bikes?

not being an asshole I actually just wondering.

Is it to get places? Is it for fun? Is it to get places and you have fun getting there? Is it to get in shape?

Where I work, I have to pay for parking and traffic sucks, so a bike is faster and significantly cheaper. Staying in shape and having fun are nice side benefits, however.

  3. are those brooks saddles comfortable? i was looking at one yesterday and it felt still as a board. and $100+. i dont get it.

They're comfortable for a lot of people. A basic B-17 will run you $60-$70, so not so bad. Frankly though, I think they look ridiculous on most anything but old school steel frames.

  4. I use L clips and have no issue with toe overlap because of my giant fucking 60cm frame. People with 50cm frames or whatever won't be so lucky. It was a problem for me when I had fenders on my bike and it drove me crazy.

  5. so if it's non-quill and threadless, it is 1 1/8"? I'm riding a 2008 schwinn madison if that helps.

I looked on the stat sheet for the bike on schwinn's website, but it wasn't any help.

This thread seems to say it's 1 1/8". 1" threadless is pretty rare, I think it mainly exists so people with 1" threaded headsets have the option of converting to threadless.

edit: Sheldon Brown mentions that 1 1/8" THREADED headsets exist as well, but are very, very uncommon. Weiiiird.

  6. It's not necessarily that great, but it's a great deal for the price. If you're gonna go SS, however, I'd recommend the Motobecane Messenger because it has cable stops for a rear brake and comes with a set of 'em to boot.

Hmm, still waiting for more replies to make sure that stem is legit. The picture of the stem just throws me off.

The frame is already in possession. For the price it's all good. The geometry feels very similar to a friends Vivalo & Umezawa frame,

For sure you can use that stem on that frame. Just be aware of the slightly larger than usual clamp size and get yourself either a shim or appropriately sized handlebars.

edit: This shim isn't designed EXACTLY for the size conversion you'd need (using 26.0mm bars in a 26.4mm stem), but I bet it would do in a pinch if you spread the stem clamp ever so slightly. Call the shop and ask them and I bet they could let you know for sure. Hell, try using a cut up soda can before you go spending $10, you might not need it.

  8. The sidewall says the max pressure, but that's not necessarily what you have to run. I keep mine at around 90psi most of the time. Figure out what's most comfortable for you with regards to effort you have to put into pedaling and comfort.

  9. I have an old Centurion road bike from the 80's and around $700 to spend to convert it to a cool fixie. What quality components should I spend the most $ on and where can I skimp. The things I am thinking about changing are the paint, adding a Brooks saddle, riser handle bars, and deep v wheels.

Primary use will be getting around town and riding along the beach path so aesthetics are more of a priority than performance right now.

You have $700, keep the Centurion as a beater bike (they're okay for getting around, but you have 700 fucking dollars, you can do way better!), and build yourself a baller-ass new bike. Srsly. I don't know that price range too well, but I'm sure someone on here does and can point you in the right direction.

  10. I'm trying to convert an old peugot frame to a fixed gear,

but im having trouble finding parts because the threading is different.

Is there anywhere i can find a Phil Wood bb with french cups?

Seems like with Phil stuff, any Phil BB will fit as long as you have a set of French Threaded mounting rings.

  11. So is this a hit or miss, buying multiple seats that I could potentially never use again?

You could buy used and sell if you don't like it. You'd probably make back what you paid most of the time.

  12. I'm imagining a bizarro world version of this thread where everyone is asking whether they should get a Micargi, Electra or Schwinn beach cruiser and a few dudes are saying those are totally not worth it and you should spring for a Paul Frank cruiser.

Swing bikes would stand in for the Brooklyn Gangsta.
