  1. It made me buy quicker but I don't see it as hype. Certainly not from BIG and I don't see how it helped SE. What if Kiya hadn't said anything. People would have been pissed at him for not letting them know they might not be able to get the product they wanted. So from all angles he was in a pinch. Personally I went on a splurge but that's just my nature so I used it as an excuse to buy. I now have enough jeans to last me a lifetime.

I'm looking at it as my weight maintenance plan. There's no way I can gain weight now. I can't afford it.

  2. the funny thing is that with straight legged, slim jeans it always looks slightly bootcut below the knees - often the legs need to be tapered slightly to give the illusion of a straightleg. has anyone else found this to be true?

Exactly. My Fullcounts and 103's have a taper and look perfectly straight.

  3. A little question...

Looking at early photos of these being worn, they look ever so slightly bootcut... Is that a combination of the unusually tight thigh and stacking which creates that look? I really don't like it when straight leg jeans do that. :(

I love the slubbiness of these and they would be perfect. Is it just the photos which are making them look slightly bootcut? Are they like that in person? Would that be taken care of if they were hemmed?

    Thanks! :)

I think you're correct on that. I had a couple inches taken off mine and I keep debating whether to hem them more.

  4. Actually I got 33's in the 103 and they are perfect. I also got the 105's in 33. Both from 2000db. But the 105's have been washed and are I would swear they have been shortened. In the 1002's I had to have 3 inches taken off and these luckily are not too short. And the waist is too tight to get the top button done. So figure that out.

  5. why dont u guys just read the mesurements on rakuten or something

    it realy is that simple

Where's the fun in that? Then I wouldn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling from helping out other numbnuts like me who spend too much on denim.

  6. the hole in my jeans from the red moon wallet is from the big ass buckle

Exactly what I don't really want. So what's the leather in the Red Moon back pocket for if not to prevent the hole?

  7. the hole would be on the upper side, not the lower lined half they have....it's not lined with leather is it?

What's the leather in there for? I didn't really pay attention to the position. Either way it's a good idea. I'm gonna try it out on a pair of my jeans and see how it works out. I love my wallet but really don't want a hole in the pocket from it.

  8. ^ Ayn, You are gonna love these jeans. I can't understand the lack of attention these get. I like them so much I got another pair from BIG to put on in 2010 or so. Let me know your impressions. Mike

  9. Synthi, I agree with you entirely in principle. I'm just trying to make sense of their actions. The only thing that makes sense to me is Levi's wanting to dominate what they see as a growing market. And this market does have exponential growth potential. Boes anybody here remember Jordache or G. Vanderbilt jeans? They created the premium women's denim market. Look at the size of that.

You've got a lot of gen X'ers with disposable income that don't want to look like every other fat ass dad on the street but don't want to spend Bespoke kind of money. but they do want high quality and a sense of exclusiveness AND something that will be functional in an everyday sense. I am the perfect example. I love the finer things but got sick of the expense and care required of fine tailored clothing. So I saw Nudie, liked the idea and then graduated to Japanese denim. And I've spent a decent chunk in the last year.

Look at the age of guys on this board. No offense but how much disposable income do they have? But if Levi's did it RIGHT and put their money into marketing they could reach people that can spend 250-300 on jeans and its not a big deal.So again I have no clue. I'm just trying to see the business reasoning here. And the more I think about it I don't think it is a simple case of protecting a trademark.

  10. seeing as levis buys exclusively from cone now... they would never be able to do a premium line good enough to stand up there with the japanese brands they're trying to weed out. cone is not capable of producing the fabric that would have to be used.

I'm curious. Why is Cone not capable? Equipment? Raw goods procurement? Skilled workforce? Overall cost to produce in the U. S.?

  11. price points would have me believe that levis thinks its Capital E line is premium

My understanding is that this has been pretty much a dud. Is that correct? And didn't they used to have a silver tab line or something? So I think the time would be right to do something like I stated above.

Keep in mind I know absolutely nothing about the clothing business> I'm just trying to figure out what's going on because I am insanely bored at work today. Mike

  12. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Levi's is going to jump into the fray and introduce a super premium line to compete with the Japanese companies. I think it would be a rational decision for them to make.

    1. They have seen there is a niche market in U.S for "Super Premium Denim" due to the efforts of Gordon, Yuji, and Kiya.

2 Look at Budwieser as a perfect example. Once Sam Adams showed that you could charge over 6.00 USD for a domestic beer they introduce Bud Select. Toyota-Lexus, Honda-Acura. Ralph Lauren Polo-RL Purple Label. Brand segmentation 101. I know Levi's already have LVC but that may become a middle tier or separate tier with the new line sold to the younger non-traditionalist.

3.They already showed an interest in doing a collabo with Self Edge. I don't believe a company as big as Levi's would bother with such a small run unless it was part of a bigger push to enter the rarified air that the Japanese companies occupy.

    4. They never pushed on the Japanese companies before because they didn't compete with the typical Levi's consumer. What better way to jump into the market? Kill the Jap repro guys then fill that void themselves.

Just my .02 cents. But I think its a possibility.

  13. yeah i just need some new sneaks now... i ordered a pair of navy suede vans slip ons... hopefully they tie everything together.

    richter - ironic.

i dont want a skinny cheap monday kinda of look, i tied on 90 pairs of jeans the day i bought my onis like 25 different companys, these were the best

il just stop staring at the ankles

What's wrong with the ankles? Those are perfect!
