  1. you know, i was thinking about this....the denim game is kind of like the sneaker game. ebay ruined the sneaker game, has BIG and Selfedge ruined the japanese denim game? I love BIG, but some food for thought....

In a way, yes. Because sometimes the thrill in collecting things is in the search. Discovering an obscure item in an obscure place can be very gratifying. These days people can sit on their asses in front of a computer and buy anything.

But places like BIG and Selfedge makes quality product more accessible to everyone (which might turn off a lot of people). Still, its such a small percentage of the denim market. Everyone else is rockin' TrueMankindClothChipRepublic or some shit. I'm sure companies like Sugar Cane are happy to break into the U.S. market.

I love traveling to different country and finding some clothes that are truly local. But it's also nice to buy a pair of jeans without having to fly all the way over to Japan.

  2. can you tell what year your levi 501's are by looking at the leather patch?

    mine say 1873

Hey khoiphan92, just wondering about the obsession you have about your leather patch. Are the jeans vintage Levi's that you need to date? Are they repros? If so, just post some pictures and I'm sure some one can tell you the model type and year.

  3. First off, there's no way in hell a person can comment on a fit based on a word description. Posting a pic would be helpful. Secondly, how a jacket should fit depends on preference, size, style and cut. Some people like the shoulder seams to hit right on the shoulders. Some people like it below. So maybe providing that info would be helpful also.

Denim is made primarily of cotton and cotton stretches. But a one wash by the Gap probably took care of all the shrinking, so you aint gonna get much out of them. Most likely nil. If you want a denim jacket to work on something, try raw next time.

  4. Um, aren't, weren't jeans pretty standard cowboy fare? Saying "maybe with too much of a western style", unless I've misunderstood you and you mean "European" when you say "Western" is a little wierd, imo.

Yeah, I guess you're correct. But jeans started out as utility work wear in general. I guess what I mean is that "cowboy style" is used as their jump off point. When I say western, coming from the US, I mean more like cowboy movies. Because cowboy movies here are called "western" films. Sorry for the confusion.

  5. That's a dope shirt. I love Flathead stuff. The quality is definitely there. Just to let everyone know 2nd is also a dope shop. Is a small store almost in the middle of nowhere, in the Mie Prefecture, right below Osaka. The shop manager is Mr. Ise, who is very helpful and will gladly answer any questions about the product, but he doesn't speak English. They also hem jeans there with the original Samurai or Flathead thread, on a vintage Union Special, which is a plus.

  6. Narrow selvedge, IMO, actually looks more refined and is a lot closer to the original. But a lot people really dig the wide selvedge, so thats a valid reason to produce them that way too. There are many companies that do this on purpose. Nudie comes to mind.

  7. What is with people hating on other, because of their selection of clothing?

Its just that for the amount of money they are charging, one should expect a well designed product. There is so much more stuff out there for so much less. It's really condescending to the customer.
