  1. My beef lies with American copyright law. I'm incredulous that something as vague as arcutate design or tabs (of any color on the back of a pair of pants) could be held as intellectual property (a BS term for arcutate or a pocket tab in this case and a phrase that's no better than a spin term). That something so vague could be defined by the money of its owner (levis seems to be able to say what is and what isn't arcutate in this case) and not by any reasonable, clear cut guidelines (there doesn't seem to be any) is disturbing.

Just a few questions. Levis is a Multinational, right? Under what parameters is arcutate defined in its registration?

I hope business continues smoothly for both Self Edge and BiG, wish I could get out to San Francisco!

  2. I've never uploaded a thing and I'm around 2.0. I seed for months on end, that helps immensely, but I'm also able to hop on popular torrents early, that's the luck element. For the early months, don't turn off your computer!

  3. *note to self, never post in the same thread as oomegaoo...again*

ARGH! I was doubting myself when I said Omega and I was right! I should've gone back and checked the facts.

cmirsky- They're going on four months now. I switch in and out of 3 pairs of jeans and two pairs of pants, but they're my "go-to" pair. They've stretched 3 "sizes" (I'm a 30 waist and they're 27s).

  4. Hap- I don't know what to think. The similarity between the shirt and the jeans is both very cool and not quite right.

Omega- I totally agree, I wish these were a bit looser. I recently got caught in the rain and they tightened up even more! Should've got the size up, oh well. I love how they fit in the ankle, the rest is too much.

Variations on a Theme: Different Day, Different Henley

Roughly the same thing as yesterday, I don't change much up, really. I've realized that my legs look broken at the knee because I stand with feet splayed.

  5. I urge everyone who hasn't to check out Konono No.1. They're closest to traditional Bozombo or trance music. They're from Kinshasa, Congo, and have merged their Bozombo sound to an immense, dated Dutch sound rig that massively distorts their traditional likembe tones (thumb piano). Pulsating, wildly polyrhythmic dance music with an unintentionally experimental bent stemming from their dated, handmade equipment and intoxicating repetitions (they've been compared to Can in that regard). Wonderful, wonderful band, I couldn't help but dance and dance and dance when I saw them live. Seeing them again this spring, hopefully.

  6. Seenmy- Incredible! A consistently solid use of work wear styles. The beard really brings everything together.

    b i z z y- Rockin' hoodie. The Hap/ b i z picture has to be the best single photo ever posted.

Here's today. I've come to realize that I wear my AA thermal every day, and that my bandana and pant legs are off, and that the counter snuck in the shot.

  7. if you're in rhode island there's nothing there but great italian deli's and awesome hot dogs, just warning you, lived there for 7 years...

This is partially true. Parts of Providence, Olneyville, for one, have been happening and are still happening. That is if you're into the whole noise rock/ no wave/ punk scene and the RISD spin off art culture. AS220, Armageddon Shop, and the Providence666 collective have been really good about driving forward following the Fort's demise. There is something to do every weekend. This might not be enought for some people, and there's not much else, but I'd contend to say that there's more to Providence than Italian Deli's and hot dogs. The rest of RI is debatable.

Britain have all the best Indie bands whereas America is quite simply awful at Indie music.

I'm going to go ahead and say that, along with the American "indie" bands you've listed, those bands are trash. I'm going to go so far as to say almost every featured "up and coming" british "indie" band is watered-down, over-produced, crapulescence. NME is a publication that has besmirched its name for far too long by pushing crap like Bloc Party and Editors where it used to push the Fall. Truthfully, these bands listed above have spawned a grotesque British (many American bands are guilty of this same crime, but on a less prevalent level)"indie" culture and sound that entirely wrecks the concept of indie as meaning "independent." This is my personal feeling on the matter, and is certainly nothing but a subjective opinion. But, we can't go passing around opinions on the state of "indie" music when the frame is completely warped, now, can we?

  9. i dont know if i would call them toys, do you play with them? no? thought so.

i would call them one of the biggest cons going on right now of the hypebeast generation; although some may hold my interest for a minute to look at. the dissected kaws is nice but whats the point of owning one? i dont find any more value in these collectables (what they make you believe) than toys you find in mcdonalds happy meals. end.

I don't think you fully understand what these "toys" are. First, you can't think about them as "toys" in the traditional sense of the word. They're an extension of contemporary character design manifested in the form of an action figure. You can think of them as either blanks for design in repetition, or as freestanding pieces.

As contemporary character design (a form of graphic design with roots in animation and pop art) is a 2-D form (even if it's rendered as 3-D it's sill flat) it's relatively abstract in that it's a 2-D design made to imitate a 3-D character. The action figure takes that 2-D design and puts it into its 3-D context. In the process new dimensions are opened by the transposition and another visual style is created.

At the end of the day, as you've hinted at, they're a commodity. That's totally correct, that's why they exist. Pictoplasma 2 says on action figures, "The point is simply to own them, they are a material version of something that has so far tended to be virtual, and have no practical use value." It states earlier, "They are precise, claean, usually slick and painted, destined for the home showcase," (page 107). I'd say that this is also the purpose of most modern decorative art (remembering that art is the very essence of collectible). So, stemming from their representation of an artistic abstracation and their own role as an art or pseudo-art piece, I'd say that they were intended to be something other than toys.

This is all recognizing that character design is a modern art form which, I think, is a completely subjective recognization. My argument stems from such a recognization.

This is going on a little long, but I'd like to contend the use of "hypebeast generation." There's no such thing. "Hypebeasting" is a socioeconomically limited subculture that is a far cry from a social phenomenon. In no way could it ever come to define a generation, even in the limited sense of geography, age, or race. It's prevalent here because we bash it, and thinly spread in North America and Japan.

    That's enough.
