  1. One bldg is on 16th, the other on V, I think. The 15th st side is a little less savory, but there are plenty of $500k+ condos between there and Howard at this point. If I were going to rent in the city, I'd look around there--if I were going to buy, I'd probably look in Columbia Heights. But wtf do I know, I live in Silver Spring.

Their places are OK, but there are some pretty ritzy digs in the area if you want them. I don't know what your standards of living are--the people I know who live down there are more Fort Reno types than bottle service types.

fuck columbia heights. all the condos going up around 14th are the most boring generic pieces of shit. for god's sakes there is a ruby tuesday in columbia heights now.

most people i know in the area are paying b/w 1000 - 1700. I'm paying 1500 for a floor of a row house, 1.5 bedrooms. i'd say the 15th st side of meridian is fine now. it's obviously a little bit less whitwashed than the 16th side, but i would say it's largely ok. that said, i have a friend who was mugged on his doorstep at 13th and irving so...

  2. That is funny, you must have lived around the corner from me. I live right next to meridian hill park on chapin st. I love going to the park on sundays and getting in on the drumming. There is a lot of construction in the area though, like you said. Theivery Corp. is opening a new lounge called Marvin on 14th and U. The area will soon be the hot spot in DC.

Marvin is pretty decent. it has a similar vibe to 18th st lounge but they exclusively play soul, funk, motown, etc. the dj is great. but it is usually crowded as shit in there.

  3. after a 2 hour soak in hottest tap water, changed out twice. i am very satisfied with the fit. Stuck a hanger in the waistband so it would not shrink too much. Fortunately, waist band shrunk very minimally. Sat around for an hour with the top button undone and finally was able to button it. So here are the fit pics post-soak (didnt take pre-soak unfortunately).

i gave my blues a 2 hour hot soak as well. just to be sure i got the shrinkage out of the way i gave them a hot wash and dry and they shrank up at least half again as much, so beware if they are that tight after only a soak. they do stretch out a lot though.

  4. They don't make nudies in 34 x 36 in the United States so would it be cheaper to buy them on a european website for a ridculous amount of money (in which case I wouldn't buy them) or to find someone to buy them In europe and send them to me>?

it probably would be cheaper to buy them from a european website. i recall kitchener.ch being popular a while back, but it took people forever to get their orders.

  5. got some dubbleworks 660, non contest though unfortunately. first japanese denim. first selvage. want to see how they compare with all the contest ones.

I'm pretty sure they are exactly the same, minus some permanent marker on the inside pocket and the contest patch. hopefully you sized down 1 million...

  6. That is a great list. couple comments: fullcounts are great, but they stretch a lot, and the back pockets are reaaaally far apart and can make them seem a little dumpy, even though they are quite fitted everywhere else. 103's are a similar cut but with much more flattering back pockets. super smooth denim, completely non slubby, but a bit stubborn. they fade rather slow compared to the flatheads, sams or fullcounts. i would personally go for the eternals or the sdas, but if you're looking for something to break fast, i'd go with the sams or the FH.

    can someone help me out?...

I'm looking for a semi-slim pair of jeans; leg opening around 8 3/4 inches in size 35 or so. Not looking for anything really slubby since I have a pair of Onis and I dont want anything with an anti-fit ass.

    Momotaro straight

    SDA 103

    Samurai S0500

    Fullcount 1108

    eternal 811

    flat head 380

What are some other models like those? out of those what would you reccommend?

    thanks

  7. this doesn't usually look right with sugar canes because of the rise and the hip flare. i think he is wearing them where he should. the fit looks good, i think. those slack jeans look beautiful. are they a 50/50 mix like okis and hawaiis? are they rht? how much did those run you?

Yes. It does. Loosen your belt and pull your jeans down a little bit. In my opinion they should hang on your hips, not up where your navel is. That and a double cuff and you'll be looking good.
  8. i have washed mine maybe 4 or 5 times and the length didn't really shrink any more than after the first wash. the rest of the jeans however... have continued to slim up. they won't stop shrinking bit by bit until after several washes.

So i just got a pair of SDA SD-103 from blue in green, and had them hemmed (great service, btw!) I hot soaked (water at 40-50 degrees for about 3 hours) them trying to get most of the shrinking out of the way, and the length now is pretty close to perfect. Should I be expecting a lot more shrinking in subsequent washes, or do hot soaks tend to get most of the shrinking out of the way the first time?
  9. skull 5010XX

attempted to catch the colour just about right...maybe a little too bright in some pics but there it is.

now that's what i'm talking about. some nice vintage looking fades developing. none of this "i blew my crotch out and the pockets are falling off after two weeks because i hunt wild bears using my skull 5507 as my only weapon while skating 27 hours a day on the interwebz" nonesense. well done.

  10. I think Toshiko said that everything being produced before 2008, except for stuff going to the US, will still have arcs. If 2nd has pictures of arcs, they probably have arcs.

i'm inclined to think this is right, although the 2nd pictures were just stock samurai photos; they didn't have anything of their own up.

  11. are you sure? i some some restocks on a different site (bears maybe? can't remember) that didn't have the arcs, but still had the tab.

Nope. Wish they did because I'd buy some. I'm considering some Studio SD-103's because they still have the arcs.
  12. These were hemmed to 33.5 inches by somet. They have been worn for less than 1 month. washed once, dried once. some wear noticeable, not too much though. i'm selling because i just don't wear them that often. asking 225 USD shipped to the US, a little extra elsewhere. These retail for 285 in the US. You know what they look like, but I'll throw up some pictures later today to show the slight wear. PM if you're interested and I'll send you the pics.

  13. that's what thimbles are for!

I have only done a very small repair on my back pocket and it was fairly painful on the fingers to push the needle through thick denim. I'm impressed by how much youve actually repaired by hand.
  14. it doesn't matter what bran, or if the jeans are teff to fade, they won't look raw for very long. nevermind the rye comments people are making. just enjoy the process and the jeans will look amaizeing no matter wheat.

  15. i think it would be insane if you tried the 45rpm style invisible repair by hand, if not downright impossible. i'd say either a) use a machine (which uses lockstitches), or B) take it to a tailor. the only handstitched repairs i've seen that look decent are deliberately rustic, like knee patches etc.
