quick sizing question.
size 32 in lvc 1947 = ? size in samurai s0500xx, s710xx. thanks!
probably around a 30. LVCs shrink from tag size so two inches down is a good general rule.

I have own both if anyone wants side-by-sides. I also have a pair of both the hawaiis (50/50 and the SC40400 which is 100% natural)...
i'm always interested to see the pics of the 40400. yes please. also, did you get the same size in both pairs? the measurements on hinoya etc. seem so suggest that the 40400 run smaller?

^^ they are not the same cut, the hawaii is a 47 repro, right hand twill and the okinawa is a 45 repro and left hand twill
They are very similar but the okinawa is slimmer, and because of the LHT gets a more defined grain.
they are both the 66 cut (according to bears). SC 45 is a lee repro and the okinawa is definitely not a lee repro.
but you are right, hawaii = RHT, lighter blue hawaii indigo, hair on hide patch. oki = lht, darker purplish oki indigo, snake skin patch. same cut.

^^^ they are stubborn aren't they? and they don't produce the same fading as jap repro jeans. sort of like even fading with very minimal creasing and honeycomb. a bit frustrating actually.are you are talking about the sumis or the regular sorahikos? i have had quite the opposite experience with my sorahikos. i don't find them stubborn at all, and my whiskering and honeycombs are pretty well defined. but i definitely agree that they fade quite a bit different than other repros. i know they aren't sanforized but they almost fade more like sanforized denim. i can't really explain it other than that.

I would give them a hand wash, stick them in the closet, and start on the Sorahikos. You can always come back to them later, but it sounds like you need a break. I'm sure they look fine after a year anyway.
not before thoroughly taking pictures though...

pbj005 and oni blues fit nothing alike. having owned both, the fit is completely different.
pbj's have much lower rise and the seat and thighs are very very slim with absoluetly no taper from knee down. oni's have a more repro-esq cut with bigger seat/thighs and slight taper from knee down.
maybe i sized down a lot more than you on the onis, but mine don't fit reproesque at all. the seat and thighs are both very fitted on mine. mine fit very similar to sized down somet straights with a higher rise.

the 500 don't even hold a candle to the pbjs or onis in terms of slubbiness. i can't speak to the pbjs, but the onis stretch quite a bit so it's not too difficult to size down on the blues and get a pretty slim fit. the leg opening is not very tapered, but then the 500s aren't very tapered either. If you want thick rough denim, go 500, if you want softer but waaaay slubbier, go oni. from fit pics i've seen the pbj005 and the oni blue are a pretty similar fit but the oni has a bit higher rise, which i prefer.

Grave of the Fireflies, the only movie which actually made me feel really depressed afterwards. I guess also Requim for a dream too.
grave of the fireflies is one of saddest movies i have seen. also one of my favorites.

if you liked the laguvulin i would try some other islay whiskys like laphroaig and talisker (actually i think talisker is from the isle of skye but has an islay style flavor). they are pretty intense, but i really prefer that style of scotch.

i've been curious about some of the japanese whiskys as well.
i really don't get johnnie walker black. it is the same price or just a tiny bit cheaper than any number of great scotches, but it tastes like shit compared to most of them. i think it is a case of brand recognition and marketing.

best i've had is a macallan 35 yr. reaaaally good. reaaaaally expensive. i like laphroig a lot. also glenfiddich 15 is nice. for bourbon i'm a fan of elmer lee and pretty much anything from buffalo trace distillery, ie. blantons, sazerac, buffalo trace, etc. pappy van winkles 23 year is a nice one too. also four roses is pretty good but it's hard to find.

I think when carl posted his hawaiis they were only like 4 months old, and they already looked great. check out zk2006's photo album, there are several really nice looking pairs of hawaiis and at least one great pair of okis: http://www.wretch.cc/album/album.php?id=zk2006&book=58

both have a lot of vertical structure. the okinawas are LHT, the hawaiis are RHT. the indigo is from the place the jeans are named after. as you say, the hawaiis have a much more greencast to them and the okinawas have a pretty strong redcast to them. other than that... the okinawas do fade fast too, but i don't think as fast as the hawaiis.

regarding the fit of the okis and hawaii, i noticed on the bears site that it is a 66 cut, not a 47 cut. that explains why the hinoya guys said they were slimmer than the 47s.

I understand that these take a fair amount to get all of the shrinking out of the way... Out of curiosity, when it's all over with, have they shrank down to the tagged size? Or a little further? I'm wondering if I get a 36 and do a hot soak and heated dry, if I could get them down to a 35" waist...
doubtful. i didn't measure mine after the wash/dry but i sized down 1 from my normal size (1.5 in from true size) and while they were pretty tight, i was able to button them without much difficulty. plus these stretch a lot so...

hot soak isn't even close to enough with these. I hot soaked mine for hours, pouring almost boiling water in every 30 minutes or so. After they dried I decided to throw them in warm wash and then the dryer, just to be sure the shrinkage was out of the way and they lost at least another size. the length shrank quite a bit as well. just an fyi.

this is pretty noobish question.
I just got some o/w 811's and they have hardcore creases where they were folded during storage/shipping.
just cold soak 'em and try to flatten the creases out before hanging them to dry? SOP?
I dunno, I find that a lot of times you can get some serious fading along the folding creases. i assume you're talking about creases near the inseam and outseam? i like soaking for a while and then a hang dry; it calms them down a lot.
if you're talking about horizontal creases then don't worry about, they'll go away through wear.

Excuse the possibly already answered question but are Suminandos overdyed in black ink? I originally thought they were just a black overdye. If so, those are some badass jeans.
yes, black ink. i might buy another pair in the near future.but it's only the warp threads that are overdyed, not the whole jean. they overdye them in ink before the denim is woven I believe.

i like mother's in federal hill. on wednesday nights they have $10 dinners and $2 draught beer. good food and a pretty lively atmosphere. it's smaller, but should be able to accomodate 10 people if you call ahead.

sorry if this has been addressed already, but are the natural indigo models discontinued or are they all just sold out at the moment? Specifically the edo and the hawaii (40500 and 40400).

It's the same jean i designed but with a lower priced denim used.. Hence the slightly different model number: SEXSC02BSP
so is it the 47 denim instead of the 55?

1947 cut?
I've just got hold of some SC 1947s and they have the red tab.
it's supposed to be a 47 cut, but i tried on 47s and okinawas in the same size and the okis were a bit slimmer. the guy at hinoya said 47s were baggier than the 50-50 denim. by the way, the denim on the okis is my favorite of any i've seen. you won't be disappointed.
if you want the kind of fit on the hinoya site, i would say go with the same size as your nudies, maybe up one if your nudies are particularly tight. ive got a 31 in RRDS and a 32 in my okis and they fit well, but i could have gone down 1 for a more fitted look.

yea i guess single spaces are somewhat common with apartments downtown. capitol hill seems like a really cool place. i'll definitely be checkin it out. whatever gets me the most bang for the buck and has a good spot or two within walking distance will be where i end up.
i guess it depends on what your crowd preference is. i'd check out: ballard - mix between yuppy/hipster/elderly norwegians. lots of restaurants and bars. plus three great gems of seattle: blackbird, than brothers pho, and sonic boom. also, the international district is pretty cool. you can find some nice places for decent prices down there. obviously there is great food nearby and pioneer square is pretty close if you need a dose of douche. i like the u district/ravenna too but maybe that is just for nostalgia. also, check out wallingford.
