  1. i have tried this and it works so good. but the only problem was that i smelled homeless afterward (no hobo).

urine has large amounts of nitrogen which helps the indigo bind to the cotton better. by using a piss soak, you can get maximum shrinkage whilst maintaining indigo dye levels and minimizing residual indigo crocking. also, the salt in urine naturally and gently draws out the sizing (starch) in a new pair of jeans. urine passing through your body is at a nice warm temperature that will cause your denim to shrink nicely.

so why doesn't everybody do a piss soak?

well, the real question is, how do you get enough piss to submerge jeans into? the solution is to get a bunch of your buddies to piss into the tub on your jeans until your jeans are fully submerged in piss. or, you can save up your piss in glass jars until you have enough urine for the job. when the time comes to do your piss soak, all you have to do is put your glass jar in the microwave for about a minute. what this does is destroy any bacteria that may have developed in your piss while you were saving up for the soak AND it heats up the piss for maximum shrinkage. you can avoid this by storing your urine containers in your refrigerator, which keeps bacteria growth to a manageable level, until you are ready to use them. but don't worry about a little bacteria on your jeans, after all, "they're just jeans!"

a cautionary note: refrain from asparagus if you are going to do a piss soak. also, taking a multivitamin before pissing could cause an unwanted orangish tint to your weft yarns.

after soaking for an hour or so, rinse with warm water and hang or tumble dry.

and that's it! piss soaking = maximum shrinkage + maximum sizing (starch) removal + minimal indigo crocking. plus, it's fun--you can do it with your family, friends or your significant other.

  2. also, if you're a long time lurker, you might have noticed that these types of posts/threads never get very positive responses. If you are looking for something that is slimish, an intermediate between the skinny jeans you've been wearing, and a lot of the looser cuts, i'd try a '66 cut. a lot of companies make them. studio d'artisan's 103 is pretty popular. it's one of my favorite cuts.

  3. are the jomon back pockets kinda wide-set like the sorahikos? if i could change one thing about the sorahikos it would be to set the pockets closer together.

  4. umm... actually mine really are stretching a ton. i sized down on the straights and they have stretched a lot already. maybe not apc proportions, but maybe more like nudie-ish.

  5. i went to the somet store in shibuya a couple weeks ago and it is insane to find. completely unmarked from the outside. it's just a door in a back alley w/ little or no other stores on the street. the people there were super cool though and they had all of their products there. anyone in the area should check it out.

  6. i got one of the non-iron cotton/poly button downs and i really like it. the fabric is much thicker than the 100% cotton so the collars and cuffs are pretty stiff. fit is good too, although i had to go down one size.

  7. oh and if you go to Von's on pike, sometimes they stock this beer called the 'jolly roger' its brewed somewhere in ballard, and its 12.9 something percent alcohol ..

pretty sure that maritime brewery makes jolly roger. they are my favorite brewery in the world. its right off of leary in ballard. they have a little bar/restaurant that you should check out if you're into micros. i like ballard. blackbird and sonic boom are two reasons to check it out, although it's gotten pretty damn yuppy in recent years.

  8. 2amy's is the place to go for pizza. it's a bit of a pain to get to though; right by the cathedral.

tryst is pretty good. i go there alot. their coffee is great and their baked goods are really good. although for lunch type food it's overpriced

sala thai is a staple for me. reasonable and dependable thai food. not the best but always decent. there are a few throughout the city. i usually go to the dupont of the cleveland park ones.

also - don't write off the suburbs. my favorite chinese food outside of china is in rockville. too far from the metro to walk, so you have to drive. definitely check out A & J cafe for fujianese/northern food (i know, it's a weird combination) and Joe's noodles for sichuanese. apparently the best vietnamese in the area is in vienna or somewhere down there but i haven't been yet.

  9. Used to live in DC for about seven years and may be moving back by the end of the year...

I had an apt right across the street from Meridian Hill park. Used to frequent Wonderland, the Raven, Dos Gringos, Chi Cha Lounge...

    i wonder where you work... ... ... :x

also, i wonder if denimbar would host something for the dc md va crowd. they do private parties yeah? i don't know if joey or watchman check this thread though. are most of us over 21?
