  1. just received one of those theory owned helmut lang ma-1 (posted on page 3). if you ignore the brand and after a ma-1 with 1958 details and a fit between slim and oversized, then it's a pretty decent jacket.

  2. Lol at ws-j25 becoming a grail piece, did they invent windstopper?

its a grail for me (the ss-j25 as well) because i don't think there is anything like it in the market. with techwear hoodies, it's either too performance orientated (soft shells) or suited for outerwear only (hard shells). not to mention how hard it is to find one.

  3. this is from the transaction problems thread. figured it's better to ask here than there.

Now at first you think they measure 12" but if you look carefully, you can see he rolled the pant leg over so the back of the pants has come to the front at the side.

what is the general accepted method for measuring thigh width? i've always done crotch seam to end of thighs laid flat (sometimes passed the leg outseam). i'm guessing the more acceptable way is to stop at the leg outseam?

  4. thinkin of getting a pair of church's oxfords but i'm a little uncertain about sizing

    http://www.mrporter.com/product/316363

    i'm a 43 in MMMs, 42 in CPs, and a 9 (if i remember correctly) in clarks. better to go with a 9.5 or a 9 in these church's?

both my pairs of church's are 7.5uk and i feel they fit true to size (i'm 41 in mmm). i think most of their shoes are quite narrow so you get a tighter fit even if you buy half a size large i.e more room for error. you could always compare outsole measurements to dress shoes with similar last and sole design that you own or can try on. ive always used this method and it has proven to be quite effective.

Any recs for a US-based proxy? Looking to buy some brooks brothers.

http://www.styleforum.net/t/269062/proxy-service-from-us-to-anywhere - i've use him several times and it has always been top notch.

suto does US proxying as well.

Anyone use a clothes steamer over a clothing iron?

i've always used an iron. i could never get a steamer to work?

a follow up to my squeaky leather conundrum. couldn't be bothered going to a laundrette so i decided to try some leather balsalm. and it worked! but only for a few hours...once it wears off, it becomes even louder. fuck.

  5. the bees knees of cobbling in sydney (or australia)? just a simple re-sole, but i want it done properly. coombs seem to be getting some bad rep lately so i think i'll stay away. i also called them about vibram soles and they had no idea what i was on about haha.

did a quick seach and cobbler caballero was mentioned. good?

  6. ^you try them on at the shop and they will pin to a length to your liking. they will usually save a good amount of slack if you ever decide to lenthen them one day. i'd say 3-4 days at a busy shop and around 20 bucks.

:( well that worked the best for me. it was a pretty instant improvement right out of the dryer

that was after applying leather conditioner didn't help so you could try that

tried leather conditioner as well with no success. i'll have to pop into a laundrette and use one of their dryers.

  7. Sides looks great, Front not so much. Curse my asian har, no way I can slick down the sides without waiting for them to grow.

you can wear a hat for 5-10 mins to flatten the sides. or you can put some wax/pomade and blowdry it flat. it takes a while but it will flatten the sides a little more. but i'm sure the latter is super damaging to hair.

what i used to do is sleep with rinsed out murrays superior. in the morning it becomes a lot more manageable. downside is you sleep with product still left on your hair. but i never really had a problem with dirty pillows.

  8. if you want to protect yourself then always ship with the full value via a trackable and insured method. duties, taxes and fees are different for every country and it should be the buyer's responsibility.

for us australians, we get taxed on items valued over $1000AU via the postal system and over $500AU via couriers (eg fedex, dhl etc). when possible, i always ask sellers to ship via USPS or whatever postal system the country uses and value the goods with any amount below $1000AU. of course, i am always responsible for whatever happens to the package as it was i who chose a method to dodge fees. via the postal system, EMS is usually the prefered method because it's trackable, insured (to a certain degree i think) quick, and affordable. but i usually prefer USPS priority if its from the US because it's a little cheaper.

  9. i dunno...ss12 is quite hard to beat.

little disappointed that there isn't a soft hoodie. ah well, back to the eternal struggle of searching every 5 minutes on ebay.

  10. Patagonia sizing is wildly all over the chart. I highly recommend trying their stuff on beforehand.

yeah, patagonia sizing is all over the place - generally speaking though, i would size up one from what you wear in the north face (my experience anyway).

thanks guys. i ended up sizing down. hopefully my pants will fit. couldn't try the pants i wanted because australia doesn't stock that particular model.

fucking, i think they have an agreement with patagonia to not allow online sales but they don't stock half the shit that's on the main website.
