  1. Rogue Territory

Mr. Katz ISC errrythang. Thanks for stopping by! (at Rogue Territory Workshop)

I narrowly avoided an ISC tuxedo (RK ISC on the bottom half - turns out they fit me!). Karl was no damn help in that dilemma!

The jacket is pretty terrific. I've only spent a half day in it so far, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. The construction looks pretty terrific from what I've been through thus far. I'm a big fan of piping on internal exposed seams, I love the welt chest pocket, the positioning of the hand-warmer pockets is spot on, and of course the Cone indigo selvage canvas is rad.... all in all I'm thrilled! FYI- Karl only apparently made 15-20 of these suckers.

It was great to see the RGT workshop and shoot the shit with Karl. I look forward to doing it again soon, and seeing the exciting new stuff he's got in the works!

  2. Kiya- you made it to Graffiti on La Brea (and 2nd) yet? Might be the most pretentious-looking space in the history of almost anything, but I'm actually a huge fan. Good coffee, remarkably comfortable space to spend some time in, and warm staff.

Also, Cognoscenti just opened their second shop in Culver City today. Just stopped by for a quicky. Definitely worth a visit next time you're down this way!

  3. Thanks for the info Dan! Rockin the ISC's today

Man, I'm envious (and surprised) rks fit you, riff, given that I figure you and I probably have pretty similar builds. Whenever I've tried on the rks, if the waist fits then the leg opening is almost too tight to get my foot through and the calves and thighs both feel like they're going to explode. If I put on a pair for which the legs fit correctly, the waist is comically large.

Did anyone pick up the Woodlands collab?

I REALLY like the way the denim looked on it but my sized got sold out ;(

"sold" is a verb; don't need to stick "got" before it.

    Sorry... [/grammarnazi]

  4. Also... I was thinking about this and I see two reasons for chain-stitching jeans: 1) a chain stitch is supposedly a stronger stitch than a straight stitch, and 2) the aesthetic appeal of hem-roping. The former still makes sense for chinos, but the latter is moot. In my understanding, roping happens because the 3x1 weave of denim causes the fabric to tweak diagonally when it shrinks (hence roping being more pronounced with unsanforized denim); the tension caused by this tweaking pulling on the chain stitch is what results in roping. But canvas is a 1x1 fabric, and the canvas Christian is using is sanforized, so this sideways tweaking won't happen, and thus nor will roping. So.... why chainstitch?

  5. A little bit off topic but Kiya is following an interesting selection of late 80s/early 90s west midlands indie bands on twitter. Somehow, I never associated Kiya with Ned's atomic dustbin. Great band though.

Is it highly esoteric, idiosyncratic and involving a clearly defined and identifiable subculture? If so, Kiya is avidly into it, was avidly into it, or at very least knows a great deal about it and in great depth.

    Said with elbow-in-the-ribs good humor

  6. So here's something disturbing and a bit disappointing: I just looked at the "stats" page for the blog I kept while in Uganda, including how viewers wound up at my blog. The last time I remember looking at this, it was mostly from facebook (when I'd posted a link to a new blog post) or googling things like the name of my blog. I was surprised to see there's been a fair number of visits pretty recently. Also interestingly is that most of those visits came from Google Images, and particularly from this photo, which I'm sure everyone here will remember (NSFW): https://lh3.googleus...9I/MVI_3733.jpg

So, I looked at what google searches have in turn been driving people my blog, wondering if there would be some explanation for how so many people were "entering" my blog through that photo:

There are a lot of sick bastards in the world.

  7. If made to measure, then why do you have to put your saddle so far back on its rails? And why use such a steeply raked stem if you then need to raise it up so high in order to get your bars higher? Could have just used a flat stem and had it flush with the headset.
