  1. I'm a pretty consistent size small in things (in some mall brands I wind up being extra-small, in some super-designer-y stuff I wind up being medium), and the size small supply jacket fits me pretty much perfectly. I'm pretty slim, and the jacket looks good if I'm only wearing a t-shirt underneath while still allowing room for a (not super-chunky) sweater.

I'm a really big fan of the ISC fabric in general, though be warned that it does crock a good bit so will leave indigo on what you wear underneath it for a while at least. My guess is the 3x1 weave of denim will mean it stretches and forms to your body a bit better than the 1x1 weave of canvas (however the canvas certainly will stretch/mold a bit too). For reference, the fabric is the same (maybe a different weight) as that used in the Left Field indigo canvas chinos, that the cats of the "Out in Left Field" contest wore for a year... and it's ended up gorgeous:

  2. Dkatz - Congratulations on your prize. Looking good in the fit pics.

I have a query....Was going through some of the RoyXCone thread and noticed you bought your Dad some RN01's over a year ago now.

Give us an update on your pops fades, id be interested to see how they've turned out.

    Cheers

Thanks man! I actually got him pre-Self Edge Roy's, back in the made-to-order days. Last I saw they were still quite dark (they're his "nice" jeans, much to Roy's chagrin), but I'll try to remember to get some cross-generational Roy fade pics next time I'm at the parents'.

    Pussy poppin' on a pantstand

I'll get some pics of my OG ducks after a wash. The fades on them are perfect!

Laughed out loud at that. And sweet, I look forward to those pics!

I just ordered some new ducks. I'll post some pics as soon as I get 'em going.

Meanwhile, here are some iPhone pics I just took of my RS01s. These are a bout 2 years old - rotated with a few different things. I can attest to the fact that these are slow to fade!

Plus, I live in the Southern US where I can't really wear jeans all that much in the summer. My guess is that I wear them on average about 2-3 times a week

My RN01s are actually coming along quite nicely. I'll try to remember to get some pics of them this weekend.

And to your latter comment: pppsssshhhh. I live in SoCal and even only have a bike as a means of transportation, and almost never went jeans-less this past summer! I also wore jeans every day in Equatorial East Africa, and Rio de Janeiro, though, so I might just be inured to leg-overheating.

  3. I love how much love you show to Karl, riff! he's lucky to have you repping his shit; you wear it well! I've been thinking about sorting out some similar sort of hanger-setup. I think jeans are aesthetically appealing, so why not display them, eh?

  4. Thanks for the thoughts, Peter!

They are a bit slim in the top block, but are actually already stretching out to be a bit roomier there - my bike ride to work this morning was considerably less restricted than yesterday's. The thighs are trim without being tight, and the lower leg is fairly spacious. I also probably could wear a size larger (these are 29s, compared to my size 30 rn1s) if I wanted a roomier fit, without having an outlandish amount of extra waist-band slack, so I do think they could be worn less slim-ly than I am. I could definitely see you rockin' these, Peter.

I've noticed that pants do have a tendency to look slimmer on me than they necessarily are, because my legs are proportionately quite large compared to my waist. Thus when I put on a pair of pants that aren't a "slim" cut, in a size that fits my waist perfectly, my legs will fill them out more than the average fella's would, and they'll thus wind up looking "slimmer" than they do on most folks.

  5. Gave them a hot soak last night, as per Roy's instructions on the Self Edge website (except that they wound up soaking for closer to 25 minutes since I got distracted by word vomiting about Roy and showing Roy-videos to a lady-friend): hot soak in a bath tub with some hand agitation, then hung to dry. I didn't measure, but they definitely shrank up quite a good deal in every dimension. Since I soaked them a bit longer than I intended, I put a thin coat of Saphir Renovateur on the patch to make sure it doesn't dry out.

When I agitated them around at the end of the soak, the water turned a pretty nice brick red/brown, and after drying, I actually can see some wrinkle-spots where fading has occured. I'm surprised that this dye would crock so easily, but it's made me pretty damn excited to see how these look after some significant wear-time.

Getting these in the mail, with a hand-written note from Roy, got me all misty and nostalgic for the RoyxCone year, so I decided to pay some homage with my first day fit:

    Favorite kitenge bandana

    Zissou contest belt

Roy boxers (no vis; you're welcome)

Along with Rogue Territory ISC Supply Jacket, and army green chucks (which I figure substitute for the camo army boot sneakers I wore while traveling in the contest jeans, which don't fit in my bike's toe clips)

A hem job will come once I can tolerate taking them off for a few days.

  6. At long last: the RoyxCone contest prize is arrived and in-hand! It took Roy and me a while to get this

prize deal nailed down (the deatils of which mostly boil down to me being a pain in Roy's ass), but I'm

    thrilled to shit about it.

These are very similar to the new ducks Roy produced for SE, however they appear to be very slightly different. So far I've only identified two differences: the addition of a cinch (which is RAD), and the absence of a size tag attached to the leather patch. Anyone with eagle eyes out there pick up on any other differences? It's like a Roy-Easter egg hunt!

These ducks are fantastic; I'm actually surprised by how little comment I've seen about them thus far on

    forums and whatnot.

    Fresh outta the box:

Internal pocket-opening reinforcement, with a neat Western-wear inspired (?) shape to it

Self Edge's pictures don't show the buttons, which is a shame because I almost wet myself when I saw them. Seriously blinging crotch-fly.

The cinch: a different design than the one on the contest jeans, and also feels (to me) to have a little bit of a Western flair to it, with the pointed corners

As per normal with Roy, the construction of every bit and piece is fascinating.

  9. if one doesn't actively defend a copyright, then one is increasingly likely to lose the copyright in court. folks at levi's may be the biggest fans of the repros and "homage," but if they don't actively chase down infringements, they can kiss their copyright goodbye.
