  1. This is a board for grown-ups who like to read about jeans past and present, of which those jeans are most certainly a forebearer - leave all that bitchy B.S. to NikeTalk or wherever you came from.

Most definitely. Another board I frequent is plagued by know-nothing 14-year olds who have one preconceived notion of "what looks good" and slag off anyone and anything that doesn't fit in their box. Pisses me right off.

  2. Those do run small in the waist. I usually wear a 38 in most LVCs but my 37 201s are 40 waist and fit more snuggly in the waist than any of my other LVCs that are 38.

Well, to put it in context, they're a 31 waist, and my 1920s LVCs are a 33! I used to a skinny bastard, back in the day.

  3. I don't believe they are. When I worked there, the codes for selvedge fabric were:

740 - the original Old Glorys

    731 - unwashed selvedge

    732 - one wash selvedge

    734 - washed selvedge.

You can see a pic of what the selvedge looks like here.

  4. In addition to the LVC 201s, the package from back home also included a pair of the original selvedge jeans that Diesel used to make, back before they lost their mind with Style Lab.

They're the Old Glory Keetar 740s, a really nice light denim - about 12 oz I think, similar to a 501 cut. Despite these being a 29" waist, I can just about fit in them - I might see if I can stretch them out a little bit and put them into rotation.

Say what you like about them now, back then they made some decent jeans. I just wish I still had my selvedge Kratts...

  5. Well, here they are - the 1998 LVC 1933 201 repros. They've sat in a cupboard in my parents house back in the UK for the last 4 years, and I never really wore them enough before that, as they were always a little too tight in the crotch. Now, sadly, it's going to be a while before I can even fit into them again. The last four years living in the US have not been kind to my waistline, and I can't do up the top two buttons!

I always remember the selvedge being red, but it's actually pink, similar to an old pair of 501s I have, and my old Evis diacock.

  6. Yep, pics will be posted as soon as I get home.

In the same package were my remaining pair of Old Glory selvedge Diesel jeans, from the very first time they did a selvedge denim. I might post a new thread for them too.

  7. Well, my 1933 201s finally arrived from my parents, and I must admit they'd faded more than I remembered - there's even a little whiskering going on. I'll post pics when I get home.

My only problem will be fitting back into them - the eight years that have passed since I bought them have not been kind to my waistline...

  8. In other LVC news, my parents moved house back in the UK last week, and they found my 1930s LVC 201s - the ones with the leather patch and the red tab. I'm getting them posted out here, although I'm thinking they won't fit me anymore as I've become a fat fuck since moving to KY. Still, if they do, they've still got a lot of life left in them, as they'd barely faded last I saw.

  9. Business trip in Cannes. Anyone know of cool shops, restaurants & bars?

The only great places I have found on past trips were Grand Bazar for clothes and Hotel 3.14 for drinks.

It's been a while since I was in Cannes, but there should still be decent shopping there. Otherwise drive (or take the train) into Monaco for shopping.

As to bars - how old are you? The younger set goes out in Juan Les Pins, which is near Antibes. The older crowd tend to drink in Monaco.

Paloma Beach in St Jean Cap Ferrat is a cool place to hang out - prices are average for the area, so expensive by US standards. Anjuna beach in Eze sur Mer is also cool.

  10. sorry,not for sale!

Probably for the best (for my wallet, at any rate). I remember when those came into Selfridges when I used to work for Diesel in there. They were £250, which for a pair of jeans in 1998 was a lot! I'd love to find a deadstock pair, but I guess I will search in vain.

If I remember right, the selvedge is half-yellow and half-blue?

  11. evisu...and warehouse shoe

Wow. A pair of Yamane Stylecraft (the ones with the bows on the back pockets). It's been a very long time since I've seen a pair of those.

Out of interest, what size, and how much, are they?

  12. Can anyone in London recommend a good place to get cut apart from Toni & Guy/essensuals and HOB Salons?

I've always gone to Tommy Guns on Beak St. They've also got a branch in Shoreditch.

  13. evisu x yen x michiko kishino, that's really the new frontier in collabs. actually i like the yen backpocket logo...but that copy of it screams rip and replace with nicer stitching!

    Er, Yen is Michiko Koshino.
