  1. I've never flown in Asia, so I can't relate to all the airlines mentioned here. From the ones I've flown, KLM was certainly a nice experience.

I also don't understand how people say British Air is good. Just flew it last week, and while it's fine on board, the treatement they get at the airports are shit. Well, Heathrow is shit to begin with, but still... Virgin is much better, although they underfeed you.

And yes, don't fly any US airlines, they all suck. JetBlue is good for domestic flights (the recent disaster notwithstanding).

  2. what are you like? what do you like?

I haven't been to Berlin, but I wouldn't even think twice about taking Paris over London. I say Paris. And forget your American phobia of anything foreign, honestly, it annoys the shit of people. Learn three phrases in French, "bonjour", "merci", and "parlez vous anglais?", and you'll be fine.

  3. Faust, do you know of anywhere that has photos of his earlier work? If it's anything like Raf Simons, as stadsvandringar mentioned, I'm all for it.

Hey, I didn't mean to ignore you, was just doing some searches, and this came up. I think the older images are not easy to come by. I have some in the Belgian Fashion Design book, I'll see if I can snap them with a digi cam. His strengths were footwear and knits...

  4. any more recommendations for top places to visit?

also, what is "if", and where is the number nine botique exactly?

    thanks

IF is a quentissential New York boutique for interesting clothes. They introduced the work of Martin Margiela to the United States. They also carry Comme des Garcons, Junya Watanabe, Undercover (women only), Ann Demeulemeester, Dries van Noten, Carpe Diem, etc. etc. etc. It's my most favorite store besides Atelier.

  5. Antwerp is my favorite city. Do yourself a favor and forget all this N(N) shit for a day (besides, there is nothing there that you can't get from Japan cheaper). Check out big and small Belgian designers - they are the best in the world, and you'll see stuff that you probably won't be able to get anywhere else.

The store that carries Raf Simons is called Louis.

Here is a pretty comprehensive list. It misses some key stores like Louis and Walter.

P.S. And drink some Belgian beer!

  6. Hey Everyone

I'm heading to Amsterdam for a few days in March and wondered if anyone could recommend cool places to party/eat/drink/chill. From the superfuture lists I have Japanese omlettes on my agenda, but I was looking less for shops and more for ways to spend time. So what's the best ice cream in the city, or the best coffee, which bar mixes the best cocktails and which club has the prettiest girls, is there a shady joint I HAVE to visit/avoid?

    -Agent Red

I heard Search Function is where it's at.

  7. Tough one indeed. Jordaan has heaps of nice restaurants. Can you describe the street where this restaurant is located? Cars parked in front? Street/canal/sqaure? Terrace? What was the layout of the restaurant like? Interioir? I'm willing to have a go at cracking this one.

Thanks for the reply. It was definitely northeast in Jordaan, above Rozengracht. The decor was simple, a bit cavernous, sort of like an Irish pub. It was long and fairly narrow. I beleive it was about a second or third storefront from Princengraht canal. It was definitely nothing trendy, just really excellent food and Belgian beer (best Chimay I've ever had).

  8. yeah this is a good thread. I was considering buying a hifi on ebay because it seemed like a practical piece of equipment. WHat would some audiophiles suggest for an ipod compatible stereo below 1000 bucks?

Well, to begin with iPOD (well, MP3 really) and audiophile don't go together in the same sentence. HI-FI is a piece of shit for the money, for sure.

To the OP, I'd just buy something inexpensive and stick it out - no reason to waste money on it. To others that insist on using an iPOD and have a receiver, I use this for friends who come over with their ipods. It's nothing to write home about, but it does the job and is very convinient - turns your iPOD into a remote control. It cost me $10 when buy.com had a google checkout promotion and a rebate.

  9. dude, in my experience, YOU'RE FUCKED. Paypal does NOTHING to help an honest seller, i'm 99 verified sells, and last year i sent a pair of infrared air max's to germany priority. Guy claimed he never got it, and filed a claim with paypal. Since germany ISN'T COVERED under paypal's seller protection (only US, UK, and Canada are..) you can't get your money back, even if you have proof...

basically...you're fucked unless you sent EMS, i only send EMS to foreign countries now, and I'm now VERY particular to where i send it

Unfortunatley he is right. Happened to me once. I was trying to be nice and give a lower price option, not anymore - only EMS for me. Even with EMS your chances against the buyer are slight.

  10. By the way, I know this is a super long shot, but I'll be back in AMS in a couple of weeks. I've been there twice before, and I dined in an awesomer restaurant in Jordaan, close to the main canal that divides Jordaan from the center, a little bit up north. It was simple really well prepared food, like steaks/fries, and they served Belgian beer. I remember it visually, but don't remember the address. Any chance that someone might point me to it so I don't spend half a day looking for it (because I will)?

  11. ^Man said everything in his first post, last time I checked Ennu only had womens Undercover, and am not sure if the even have Number (N)ine, forget about the rest. Ennu focusses on women with a small selection for men on he side.

If you're coming for clothes you might want to consider buying a train ticket to Paris as soon as you arrive in the 'Dam!

    Have fun!

Or Antwerp, cheaper and closer. An easy one day trip.

  12. how much were the raf zipper boots and how many were left?

if they're at a deeper discount than seven ny had/has them at, i might reconsider my

    disappointment in them

I replied to you on SZ ages ago that they were marked down to $329 at Barneys. I'm sure that's the price now.

  13. I decided to part with it. As much as I love the color and the styling, it's cut too tight in the waist for me if I choose to wear more than a tshirt underneath. I paide a little over $400 with shipping and customs fees. I would let it go for $350 including shipping in the US and Canada. It's brand new with tags, I did not get to wear it yet. It's size Medium, and will fit a 48 perfectly. It's made of cotton, it's canvas, so it's waterproof. Half lined, and has an awesome formal styling - I really would consider it a short coat rather than a jacket.
