  1. They also do have it at the Melrose location. Honestly for the brands you mentioned, I would definitely go to the Fred Segal on Melrose and would probably pass on the Santa Monica one IF shopping is your main priority. If not, go to the Santa Monica one because they have decent stuff there and the whole Santa Monica area is very nice and something you'd want to see before you leave anyway.

Besides that, American Rag is going to have some of the other brands you like, there's an H&M at the Beverly Center Mall near these places too if you want..

I'd also hit up Barney's on Wilshire and Rodeo Drive.. its 4 stories I am sure you'd love the selection there too.

Have fun, L.A. is the shit man

  2. damn.. awesome price and they look really nice too. I would buy these but I really have absolutely no practical use for them that I can think of. Had they been a darker color, I could think of a lot of things I can wear with them, but white/brown is a tough combo..

  3. Does anybody own a Band of Outsiders or Ervell suit and can comment on the quality (things I am looking for is how the fabric feels post-drycleaning, how does the fabric wear (is it light and cool and warm) as well as how much it creases within 2-3 wears. Also, if you could toss in any other feedback you think is important regarding Band of Outsiders or Ervell suits, I'd really appreciate it.

Moreover, I realize the questions about quality depend on the material of the suit, so I will state explicitly, I'm talking about your typical black/navy/charcoal/grey wool suits, not mohair, gabardine, etc any other kind of fabric. Thanks.

  4. There's a certain balance. I'm not even sure if the more out there pieces sell less than shirts that look like they come from h&m but are much more expensive. What's the point of carrying a designer if you're not willing to push his vision. In civilized areas, shit will sell (eventually).

What about the store's vision? If you look at the collections from designers like Stephan Schneider, Veronique Branquinho and Raf Simons, They look nothing like the way they are displayed by South Willard. The store owner buys specific items from each of the lines and displays/styles them in a way that pushes his/his stores aesthetic.

  5. I don't see how lifting something 1" will enhance sound imaging? I can see the benefit of using them with carpet...so that the spikes touch the surface below the pile. The only thing I see it doing on hardwood is scratching it.

Spikes aren't for lifting the speaker, it is to give it a more firm and less resonant placement on the floor. The bare base of the speaker on the floor will move more than if all of the energy and mass is focused down to 1 point, ie. a spike.

  6. You can hear a big difference with spikes.. its not in the "sound quality" so much as in the imaging and bass articulation. In other words.. if you are listening to someone playing an acoustic guitar, it isn't going to sound significantly clearer or more dynamic, but what will happen is the guitarist will be imaged perfectly in the center, if he moves you'll be able to hear him move, and you will be able to feel him picking every string a lot better. Spikes give a much more focused image and a soundstage with more depth. Always spike your speakers and spike your subwoofer if it came with spikes. With respect to imaging and bass articulation, I've heard huge differences between spiked and non-spiked on hardwood and carpet flooring to say it doesn't make a difference.. but if your speakers don't image very well or do not go down very deep in bass, then you probably won't hear a difference anyway..

Just like speaker positioning is critical for good speakers, but if you have a Sony Home Theater in a Box system that you got at Frys for $399 and you setup the speakers in a couple different ways it won't really make a difference because the speakers suck to begin with...

In other words, the better speaker the more it will be able to reveal about its positioning, spikes, speaker wire, amp, etc..

  7. Thats a pair of speakers from the net, those are in the VA signature rosewood finish. Peter Gansterer's wife was on a trip in India one time and saw this specific type of rosewood and fell in love with it so much she decided to buy the entire world's supply of that type of rosewood. The woofer was originally not meant to be transparent, its a mixture of 14 materials carefully chosen to give a neutral "colorless" sound.. and they are ported on the front so that you can place them close to a back wall if you have to.

NAD makes great amps, real good quality for the money. Just watch out for those types of specs.. it looks like this amp is 40w/channel at 8/4ohms. The 110w and 160w ratings are given driving one channel at a time - not a true indication of what you can expect. I see the msrp on this unit is $399usd, are you looking to buy new from a retailer or used from ebay or audiogon? If you are looking at buying used, I'd recommend moving on up to the C370 integrated amp, it has substantially more power and on ebay, are only a few dollars more. If you are looking at new units, I'd recommend the NAD 355 or 352 because from what I've heard, 75-100w is what you want to get with these speakers. Again, I don't know what your preferences are in listening volume, but the Viennas can play loud if you want them to.

    Here's a link to a C370: http://cgi.ebay.com/NAD-C370-AMP_W0QQitemZ160205038670QQihZ006QQcategoryZ3280QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

As far as sub & stats.. The NAD amp doesn't have an LFE output because LFE is a seperate discreet channel only used in 5.1 encoded films and SACDs, never for CDs or Vinyl. Does your sub have speaker terminals? If it does then you want to run it off those, this way your subwoofer is getting the exact same signal that your speakers are getting. This will increase system synergy and make it seem like your subwoofer is not really there.

  8. Just anything clean.. they sound great with any receiver.. something with high current and lower distortion is going to give you improved imaging and a better mid-bass. If you can get something that doubles up at 4ohms and it's within your budget, that will be even better for you. Good luck.
