Oh man, I'm probably picking up an 80's Schwinn Le Tour tonight for $25. I'm thinking about stripping it and turning it into a chrome color just because I can.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

no problem guys. Free shirt/tank/whatever for orders above 75 bucks still in effect. With the recession, its about all I can do for you guys =/ Queue is freed up, feel free to PM!
Ah, did I miss this?

No, its not a joke. Generally a front brake has twice the stopping power according to Sheldon Brown and among other sources I have similar statistics.
Other people have said it, but I'll reiterate it. While the front brake has more stopping power, stopping with only the front brake is a very bad idea. Obviously, I only ride with a front brake on my fixie because a rear brake is pointless, but on a single-speed or geared bike, you're putting yourself at risk with only one brake.
Also, have you ever had to stop very hard while riding at around 25mph? Let me tell you what happens: I go over my handlebars and my shoes stay clipped into the pedals. That's when I started learning how to skid.

I'm just going to assume that this was a joke.

oh, and michelin tires.
I have Krylions on my fixie and I love them. I prefer Conti GP4000's though. Has better grip and cornering than the Conti's, but they're just not as fast.

I just failed hard today. I was trying to turn a Trek 5200 into a winter single speed...ahem..."beater" decked out with racks and race fenders. When I put my rear wheel on, the chainstays had to bend about an inch total on both sides. Carbon chainstays under pressure+52/18 gearing probably would have killed me, so now I think I'll turn it into a 7 speed.
To that end, anyone selling a 700x23-25 rear wheel set up for Shimano?

sooooo.... am i missing something? or is the Bianchi Pista Concept frame nowhere to be found on Bianchi's website?
im thinkin of a fixie as my next bike and i wanna see some specs, prices, etc.. lil help?
From what I understand, Pista Concept was an American made bike and Bianchi is halting production/eliminating their American side of things.

I was looking for actual cycling shorts. I was actually looking at the Pearl Izumi Slice Ultrasensor shorts since they're on sale at Nashbar. And I'm looking to spend less than $100. Any thoughts?
Edit: Oh, and since these will be my first pair of shorts, I don't know if they work well with pants? Are they thin enough to wear under jeans, etc.?
The right pair of bike shorts will be skin tight and fairly thin (except in the chamois area). There are different thicknesses of chamois and if you wear your Dior 17cm that are sized to a SuFu fit, I guarantee that you will be the laughing stock of...well every group of people. If chafing has been your issue, may I recommend a very light pad with Chamois Butter (http://www.rei.com/product/742166?cm_mmc=cse_froogle-_-datafeed-_-product-_-742166&mr:trackingCode=83B3DC5E-1C9A-DD11-873B-0019B9C043EB&mr:referralID=NA).

1) Bontrager wheels will crack.
WHAT.
4) When pedaling, your leg should be just shy of fully extended with the crankarm is inline with the seattube at it's lowest point. If you word it like that, people are going to overextend their legs. The way the fitting works is that when your foot is completely flat (it will not be flat when it forms a right angle to the ground), you want a 15 degree angle at your knee.
5) CPSC has a defined distance from the wheel to the crank arm that, for the most part, eliminates most toe overlap issues. There are some bikes being sold, however, that are no in spec.Stating that toe overlap is a sign of a bike that is "out of spec" is ludicrous. Cleat position, tire size, and crank length have a hell of a lot more to do with it.

people need to stop putting $600 wheelsets on $300 complete bikes.
That is the exact thought that went through my head. Not to mention the obsession with Aerospokes. HED3, sure. Aerospoke=disaster waiting to happen.

Oh man...just ran the second longest distance of my life about an hour ago (10.65 miles) and I don't feel like dying! Took me ~1:36:change (~9:00 pace) which isn't bad for me, considering that I run my 5k at a 7:30 pace. I was shooting for a negative split on my loop, but I just pushed it too hard on the way in and finished with a +4:00 split.

hey is this worth it? (need a new wheelset cause the one that came on my stock bike is bent )
Brand New factory White Front Aerospoke and used rear velocity deep V that is also white..will only sell as a pair..500 firm
(i dont really care for the colors im more in it for the durability)
might be able to go down to 450...... maybe lowball more? i dunno.
or this one:
selling a set of cane creek track v's. they sell for about 600 new. ive used these only 3 times. 33mm deepdish, bladed spokes, bolt on, clincher, 700c
for 350 OBO (prolly can get thsi down to like 300)
Due to the terrifying record of Aerospokes exploding and Deep-V's being played out (says a Deep-V owner), I'd go with the Cane Creek's.

Not everyone can afford a HED3.
There's a reason Aerospokes are cheaper, my friend. And if I hear one more person say anything about crosswinds with disc wheels, I'm going to hit them. Crosswinds only have a noticeable effect on the front wheel, because that is the wheel where steering occurs. This is also the reason that TT and triathletes use discs only on rear wheels...because unless it's blowing 20mph out there, you won't notice a thing.

Oooh, oooh, I know! You can go to your LBS and, you know, TRY some bikes, see how they feel and fit and then buy the one that fits good!
I'm a madman, I know.

so im looking to get a new bike and i have a friend that can get me a 700c draft one speed by SE racing. has anyone ever tried them out? thoughts on the bike? im getting a good deal (i believe)
heres a link to the bike.
Test rode it when I bought my Fillmore. Took me 15 seconds in the saddle to realize that I didn't like it.

i think the only things that can really enhance your riding ability outside of professional racing would be the following:
• a helmet takes worry off so you ride faster
• bike shorts save your gooch
• bike shoes/pedals provide superior pedaling
• wicking layer for comfort
• gloves for hand comfort
• sunglasses/clears for better vision
anything else is steez points. don't fool yourself.
Yeah, those Zipp Sub9's matched with 1080's probably won't increase your speed 1-2 mph.

Has everyone received their cashback? I got my first refund of $120 back just fine, but I've had another $105 as "paid" status in my account for over 17 days (paid meaning I requested payment but it's still pending that 14 days live.com tacks on).
When I got in touch with Live.com they tell me it's a paypal problem that they are working to fix, but they have no idea how long it will take to get the money. Anyone else have problems like this?
I got my full payment of $248.50. I would like to thank Microsoft and eBay for doing something that was that easily exploitable.

are there any universally-recommended clipless pedals out there i can order online? local bike shop websites only have cleat pedals and i don't have much free time to spend going down there to talk/look.
What. Clipless=cleat.

If you hard stop with only your front brake at 25mph, I can almost guarantee that you're going to go over your handlebars. Your body is moving at 25mph on the back of the bike (which, without a brake, is still attempting to move at 25mph as well) and the front is now moving at 0-5mph. If you can slow both the front and the back, you'll be *fine*.
No one said anything about stopping immediately.
