  1. I came across this site via the hundreds, I'm thinking that Lupe Fiasco wont be quite so gracious.

An internet gem, almost every entry made me laugh..

  2. I know this sounds horribly mercenary as I was given the jeans but I'll sell them if someone who has had a pair confirms that they don't shrink noticably. I'm thinking (possibly incorrectly) that soaking them will affect their resale value.

  3. I used to work in a shop that sold Cannondales, we sold hundreds of Badboys in their various incarnations and although they're well made bikes they hardly represent good value for money (Try not to be swayed by asthetics)

The oversized aluminium tubing is not the most comfortable choice of frame material, if you can find something suitable made from steel then you'll find it both easier to repair and more forgiving.

  4. I've been given a pair of raw ED77's but they're a touch big and before I soak them I was wondering if anyone could let me know how much they're likely to shrink. I've been told that they're sanforized so I doubt it'll be much...

One other thing, is there any point soaking raw sanforized jeans before wearing them?

    Cheers...

  5. There've been rumours for the last few months but slamxhype have posted something today. The Japanese production will continue but there'll be no more U.K. designed product beyond the FW season.

I don't think it was a question of financial success that forced the decision to stop production.

  6. Very, very sad...

I'll really miss Silas for a few reasons and I see no other U.K. company in a position to have anything like the same global impact as they've had over the last ten years.

I know their prices were a bit steep but I gather this is one of the reasons that they decided to call it a day. The only way to bring the prices down would have been to have switched their production from their largely European base to South East Asia which in turn would have given them less control over quality.

I also really appreciated the platform they offered to numerous illustrators including Fergus, Ben Sansbury, James Jarvis and others. Their catalogues were always different to every other brand and tended to focus on some kind of obscure narative as opposed to the clothes.

Things have just got a lot duller, though I'm sure there'll be more brandXgraffiti artist collaborations another Silas is unlikely.

  7. //edit: and though i don't know anything about the "flatland scene" or lack thereof

There's definitely a Flatland scene to be found in most major cities and some more obscure places (York PA, Malaga) though Japan and France seem to be the most prominant countries. The only reason that it's not more established is because riding flat is so hard to pick up, you can get to a reasonable standard riding ramps or street in a couple of years if you've got some balls and commitment. The Flatland apprenticeship tends to be twice as long and most recognised riders in flat (Of which TJ Perry is one) will ride 5+ hours a day with little prospect of being acknowledged by the rest of BMX, let alone people on a clothing messageboard.

  8. I've a feeling this thread is heading straight for Supertrash.

That clip of the Flatlander isn't all that bad especially the last link out of the multiple whiplashes. Controversy surrounds the judging at every flat competition, because the top riders are all heading in such different directions it has become so difficult to compare them. No one can make their mind up what's harder, a long link with no scuffing flowing between moderately difficult tricks or Marti Kuoppa doing a single trick that's never been done before.

  9. do they sell these in the US at all?

There is some grey importing of the European product but one of the stipulations of our license means we're prohibited from selling our product in the States.

    Sneaker Addict

I'll ask again in the future, we're selling more 34 leg now than a couple of years ago so a 36'' leg would be a natural progression... Regarding Edwin I'll let you know what the new range is looking like next week, variations on the Nashville/Greenville theme would be a good idea I feel.

  10. Gem-Art

did you raise my concerns about Carhartt Euro never doing the 36 inseams!! ;)

By the way, you said you know about Edwin too, if I recall, have Edwin Europe got any plans to do a 'normal' rise jeans any time soon?

Had the ED47s but had to sell them cos the rise is just too low for my taste, but love the greycast denim, so wanna see it used again but in a normal rise jeans.........?

I did mail the production head to ask only to be shot down with "we've done them before and they didn't sell"

There have been some fairly major changes at Edwin Europe recently and the U.K. agent is away at the moment getting an idea of what SS07 holds. He's back on Monday, it'll be interesting to see what has been decided but a lot of people have commented on how low the rise is on the European product.

  11. Though they seem to shrink about 5% on washing at 40 degrees on a standard cotton wash they stretch back when you wear them, just wash them inside out otherwise they go all streaky. Shrinkage controlled is indeed the Swiss way of saying sanforized.

  12. Glad you're into them, I'm just unpacking the samples for SS07 and the Japanese product looks good, I'm still not sure of the prices though and the samples are way too big for me to try on.

Here's the picture of mine I promised, they're about six months old, a few washes:

Can't help with changing your name I'm afraid.

  13. The style I'd suggest is the Western Pant which has a 9 and a quarter inch hem (on a 34'' waist).

The San Francisco denim is sold out in this style but will be replaced by the Presido in the next couple of weeks. If you want something wider then the Staff Pant has a 10'' aperture.

  14. Hola machachos, I'm lookin for feedback on Carhartt raw denim, what the quality/cut's like etc...particularly interested in the San Francisco, same as Sneakeraddict...tried using the search option, can't find anything, maybe I'm just dumb. All opinions gratefully received.

I've got a couple of pairs of the Carhartt Western San Franciscos. Given that they were £45 retail I've used them as a daily jean to cycle to work and have washed them regularly, I'll take some photos this evening and post them tomorrow.

The raw denim used in the range for FW06 is not San Francisco but the slightly more expensive (£50) Presidio. There is a Selvedge jean in the range for SS07 which should retail for about £85.

All of the pants in the European Carhartt range are oversized, I'm a 31'' waist but take a 29'' in the Western Pants.

  15. Two films I've only seen recently but have been out for a while are Dead Mans Shoes (Shane Meadows) and Elephant (Gus Van Sant).

Stylistically they're very different (it feels like every screen shot from Elepant could be viewed as a still and continue to be compelling) but both have left a lasting impression.

  16. As Cue mentioned the only store worth braving Central London for out of the three you mention is Libertys. The Contemporary floor of Selfridges is being completely refurbished over the next year and will be worth a visit when it's completed.

If it's Streetwear you're after take a trip to Bond on Newburgh St.

  17. I've just checked through the SS07 product list and there appears to be no plans to produce anything in a 36L. I'll ask what the deal is at the next fixing meeting, sorry I can't be more use...
