  1. Actually RFID technology is really scary in general. Of course, it wont be long before someone creates a handheld pen-sized device that lets you screen yourself for RFID chips so that you can remove them.

  2. You didnt see the stripe goofass ? It only is on one single side of the tag and somehow does not go thru the backside ..

Im pretty sure the only way you can read the micro words is when you remove that silver thread thing and the writing is under that

I don't why a major retailer would ever sell fakes - this wasn't some corner store boutique . and like I said they had redline diesels so why would they have fake jeans + real jeans

Go back and look at the photos that I posted. You can tell with the naked eye when the image is close enough, and the one that he posted was close enough. <shrug>

  3. One example is hand tools, particularly planes. Back in the 30's, the Levi's and Lee's of the woodworking plane world were Norris and Spiers. They were at the time astronomically expensive, maybe 3-4 month's salary for the average cabinetmaker. They were hand made with a unique and patented blade adjustment mechanism featuring cast steel infilled with rosewood. Fast forward to the present day and most hand planes are cheap machine made tools with poor tolerances; they require a lot of fettling to work acceptably. And so, much like the Japanese denim manufacturers, there are a few individuals in the UK and the USA who pay homage to the Norris and Spiers designs of yesteryear and recreate planes using those old patterns featuring improved versions of the same patented Norris adjuster mechanism. Perhaps if the Norris company were not defunct, they too would be busy suing.

    .

I'm not sure this is an apt comparison because levis in the 1930's was work wear, not some kind of exhalted premium thing. Mostly they were worn when you needed to do dirty work and so they couldn't have been terribly expensive, certainly not on par with what we pay now...

  4. Shit... ande should make superfuture denim!

Ande could make a KILLING on here selling "re-repro" kits. A back patch, some red thread with instructions on how to stitch an arcuate, several pocket-sized traceovers that you can follow and place over the pockets to apply the stitching, and little red tabs with 12 standard letterings and the option to add custom ones. All you'd need is a $20 hand sewer. Whole kit: $80. Aint nobody gonna try and track down one little kiwi. :)

  5. Missing what security stripe exactly? The microstitching is there, and without a very close look with good eyes or a magnifying glass you can't tell if the stitching is genuine or not.

Real ones produced after about 1999 look like this:

Whereas I have never seen a fake with a CORRECT security stripe as above with the small letters in it. Before I learned how to tell the fakes I purchased quite a few of them and they generally look like what he posted, but here's some more examples. All the pix I put up in this post, BTW, were taken by me of jeans that are or at one time were in my possession:

Trust me that pair that the greek dude posted is fake. :)

  6. yeah, until they shut it down in like 2002 or whatever.

Actually what they did was re-fold the designers back into the original label which is why their main brand has become more style-lab-like since 2002. They're about to do the same thing with the shoe line (which has been outsourced to another company for a while) and take it back in house.

  7. don't flame someones thread ATS... If you like it buy it. if not then go look somewhere else.

    Thank you! :)

I dont think any of this season's stuff is raw, but a lot of it is dark and simple. I don't really see a problem with them coming out with a lot of raw denims but generally speaking diesel rarely comes out with narrow ranges stylistically; Each season has some wild outlandish stuff and some understated basic stuff.

  8. actually I didnt buy them. Those pics are from someone else...

Anyways, I just checked the measurements on another pair I own in the same cut and the thigh is about 20", knee 18" and leg opening 21" that's hardly a huge difference. I think its just the way he has them laying kind of folded in half.

Also to say that a company which has 20 different mens cuts "fit horribly" is kind of silly. There's a LOT of variation between how their stuff fits...

  9. lol Yes sir i do, and I'm really lovin those Levi's so im looking at my options for getting a pair. Thanks for all that info, I appreciate it.

Canadian customs agents are run by card-carrying nazis. You're going to have to pay customs if you order stuff from outside canada dude. And it's illegal to try and cheat by asking a company to underdeclare or lie about the type of goods you're receiving. Just accept it. Or move to the US? :)

  10. Hey Denim Phenom, have you ordered from Rakuten direct? Did you have to pay customs fees with they delivery?

Depends on the country you live in and which shipping method they use to send to you as well as how they fill out the customs claim form. If they ship anything other than nationalized postal service (eg: fedex, dhl, etc) then you may have to pay brokerage charges instead of customs duty. Most companies don't like breaking the law, which means if they are shipping you merchandise then they will mark the customs form accordingly which means you may be levied duty. I also happen to know that if you insure a package through the same service as you ship it (as opposed to buying separately via something like u-pic.com) then the most you can ever collect from an insurance claim is the amount declared so keep that in mind.

Do you happen to live in canada? :)

  11. edit:^ ^ its been awhile since i've had my zathans, so I forgot exactly how bootlegged they were... maybe im thinking of the Zaf thats fucking big.

Haha, I saw that where a guy had that fucking gigantic diesel collection... you were referencing that thread, right

0% ?? I dunno, some articles have more than others staying power. A good leather jacket, for example, would seem to me to fluxuate between varying levels of coolness.

The zaf is the super huge flared one. That's me who has the huge diesel collection but I didnt pay anywhere NEAR $3000 for it. Since my size is always the one left at sale time I rarely end up paying more than $100 per pair and usually closer to $60-80.
