  1. i think some of the subtler washes from brands like earnest sewn or diesel (or even levis lvc)look aright but most washes look fake and also hinder the jeans natural ability to fade properly. i had always worn dark or vintage jeans but when prefaded/dirty/destroyed jeans first appeared i jumped on the band wagon.

i have a pair of diesels x rotuck (772) i purchased about 3 years ago and i can see how the natural wear wouldve looked if they didnt already have faded legs, whiskers, and honeycombs when new. on the other hand i have a pair of rabox art80m with almost no fading and now 4 years later they look awesome.

now if a buy a pair faded jeans they gotta vintage with real wear.

as far as new jeans go something like the nikki sixx wash from julian red is perfect because it is very subtle and the jeans look basically raw with 3 or 4 very slight creases in the lap and some barely there scraping (plus that pink weft is the best). no fake whiskers to get in the way of the real ones when they show up!

and those acne dry clean are amazing! as are the mix deadstock that are coming out.

i dont think diesel has ever done dry selvedge jeans. they tend to not really follow denim trends as much as some of the other brands. i have always liked certain plainer styles and some of the washes look pretty cool. im not a big fan of the crazy look at me styles but the quality and denim has always been pretty good. if you like the way they look then go for it. wear what you dig.
  3. i have a pair of dry or rigid austins that ive had for a while. they shrank a little bit in the wash but i hung them to dry and it wasnt very noticible. they havent been made for a while. they fit much like a levis 646 or older 517 with a lower rise but definately not as slim or low rise as skinners. i was told they were based on some vintage 517s. the back pockets have an awesome shape and placement but the one thing that i didnt like was the lighter weight of the denim. im guessing they are around 11oz or less.

  4. i have tons of vintage denim.

lots of levis 517 o tab from beat as shit to raw, 501's (no redlines), 505's, 509's, 646's, 684's, a bunch of wranglers(some cool bootleg/flare with awesome broken twill) some sedgefields, g. vanderbilts, plain pockets (j.c.pennys brand from 60's -80's)lots of random little known brands and even some 80's gap.

i only wear a few pairs regularly and the vast majority dont even fit. but if i see a cool pair i buy 'em regardless of size. i give a lot to friends and have sold some others but all told i must have 75+ pairs of vintage jeans.

for a while all i would wear is vintage levis but lately ive been rocking my julian red nikkis and even some of my older diesels. i go through phases. i definately am not a big fan of fake "vintage" washes mostly because they almost always look fake but some of the subtler washes (earnest sewn and 5ep) are not too bad. i do not own any repros.

btw if anyone is looking for something in particular id be glad to rummage through my piles for you.

  5. i wouldnt say those are definately fakes. i have seen similar 501s and the tag in particular looks authentic. levis has been making 501s forever and there are bound to be some odd balls out there. is there any way you can post a pic of the inside tag(s)? it would go a long way towards pinning these down. i have a pair of levis that are from some point in the early to mid 90's that were made in belgium and have a few of the details that yours do. but even if they are fake they look like great jeans and if they fit you should consider yourself lucky.

edit: wow eight months later look how wrong i was.
