  1. Cleaned up my trusty Rag & Bone Indy clones. Did a little digging and found that Grenson had a factory in Brooklyn around the time these were made and along with a few other clues it seems my long running mystery of who made these amazing boots is finally solved.
  2. Added homemade (and totally removable) rubber heel caps to protect both the boots and any hardwood floors from nail damage and to also protect my ass from taking a spill. Black Shoe Goo makes for a great temporary heel repair.
  3. Antique Cowboy Boots Pre 1930? Unknown maker. Seller said 1910s based on pattern, lack of toe bug stitch, construction, and rubber-less heels but I think they are probably a little later. Something about them just says 1920s or 30s. Heavy vintage leather is still flexible and supple, heels have bare leather and nail bottoms since this pair seems to predates the use of rubber on cowboy boots. Love the curves and last shape. The pattern is also a bit unique with a higher vamp like an engineer boot, and very similar to the Clinch cowboy boots made by @brasstokyo that I'm obsessed with. A similar vintage pair that clearly inspired Brass is included at the end. Love the evidence of the maker like crease running down the middle of the vamp where the leather was centered for lasting. And the best part? They are exactly my size and in perfectly wearable condition. Infrequently of course. Any info or educated guesses as to age or maker are very welcome and appreciated.
  4. These past few pages are on fire. I love fall. Same old same old... Shrank the waist a bit on my sized up 501s to reduce the sag a bit but kept the legs dry. Much better.
  5. Added some dark brown Vibram half soles to my 1960s Frye boots.
  6. I have sold off a couple pairs recently but this is most of my current rotation and/or what I have out to sell. Probably another dozen boots floating around in various places ( car, work, storage etc). Tony Lama roper*, Rag&Bone Alden clone, 1949 Nocona Kangaroo Pee Wee, NOS 1960 Frye (current favorites) Vtg Texas Boot, 1950s Justin Pee Wee, 1960s ACME/SEARS Phoenix inlay, No name tan zip boots, 1960s ACME Phonenix overlay 1970s Nocona*, Unknown Harness zip boots, Cheap black Laredo beaters, Justin Boots Vintage w Tulip inlay reissue, Justin Boots w Stars and Hearts inlay vtg reissue *for sale Still looking for a nice pair of tall heeled engineers with a flatter/slimmer toe.
  7. Freshly cleaned, conditioned, and lightly polished. Left the soles alone. A member of another group confirmed he received this exact make up for Christmas 1962 and they were in fact ACME. Cowboy boots with Phoenix overlay and inlays, double soles, and weird heels. Sorry for the photo dump. New camera phone is spectacular.
  8. Took my deadstock 1960s/1970s FRYE cowboy boots to my cobbler for some Vibram sole protectors after about 2 months in the rotation. The rubber heel caps were brand new but had deteriorated and dried out in the decades unworn in the their box. As you can see they started to crumble once worn, especially the right foot. One of the pitfalls of vintage footwear. Sometimes rubber doesn't make it. They will be replaced shortly after I break in the new Vibram topper.

  10. Another pair of vintage cowboy boots. Unknown maker. Unknown date. Beautiful baby blue bird overlay and inlays, heavy leather, super beefy "neolite flex" synthetic soles, chunky snip toe, and very interesting stacked leather heels.
  11. Unexpectedly hot as blazes last week. I usually set up the patio in a tank top or just shirtless and change into a tee afterwards but it was so hot I just left the tank top on. New haircut but otherwise same old stuff, denim cap, sunfaded selvedge bandana, orphan vest, 501 STF, Justin's Boots...
  12. A good friend of mine helped restore The Viking, the Nordic ship that crashed Chicago's Columbian Exposition in 1893 so I got a private tour of the ship and it's archives. Amazing that this crossed the Atlantic from Norway. Chilly day meant early sweater vest and wool trousers.
  13. Dusty boots hanging at the Ren Faire last weekend. Same old same old. T shirt is from my friends Nancy and Kitty's awesome garage punk duo The Ex- Bombers.

  17. Yes! I would love to give them a try but they are way out of my budget. I was actually searching for a suitable stand in for the Clinch boots when I found these. Luckily these were about 80% LESS than the retail cost of Clinch. But those Horned Moon boots are absolutley masterful. They are themselves based on a vintage pair. (Shown below underneath the Clinch boots) Clinch Horned Moon Vintage inspiration.
  18. Deadstock Frye, a few days wear. Starting to break in a bit, getting creases and rolls. Definitely don't make them like they used to.
  19. Barlesoni Vintage Mike Ness Painted belt Mister Freedom Outlaw in deadstock Cone 1949 Nocona Pee Wee
  20. Vintage 1940s/50s Nocona Pee Wee cowboy boots with Sawtooth inlay in chocolate kangaroo. Made in Nocona Texas. They require little repairs every couple of wears but they're is nothing like them.
  21. Vintage deadstock Frye boots. Seller said they were a sample on display in a flagship store. They smell like an old motorcycle jacket. Super Solid. Reminds me a little of the Clinch cowboy boots by Brass Show Co. A little sturdier and more structured with thicker soles and no toe embellishment. Tea core leather too. Should last forever.
