  1. Some things to add:

Levis (perhaps the 501 only) brand survives the whims of fashion.

They're never something you would look back at and think "I wore THOSE???" in two years time.

They never get 'overkill' (think Nudies)

I am not bothered so much where the item is made in USA or Japan (except when the company charges a premium made in USA / Japan / Italy price when they are actually making the jeans in sweatshops in China etc... e.g. G Star etc).

  2. anyone who likes jeans can not not like Levis.

It's sad that they've diminished the quality of the brand, but thats ultimately what happens when brands become "fashion" focussed instead of quality / durability focussed.

The pairs I've seen recently seem hastily stitched and of a more flimsy cloth - but that's all today's consumer demands as long as the item is 'fashionable'.

I enjoy Levis for the LVC range and their 'authenticity' and the fact those cuts are all timeless, IMO. (Will still look wearable in 10 years time if I still can fit into them... extreme low rise, skinny etc etc won't be 'fashionable' next year, let alone ten years)

I probably wouldnt wear any 'modern' Levis though simply because I'm not sure the workmanship is there... as Cheep said, it's a brand you want to be made in America really.

  3. Looking forward to seeing the final measurements on all sizes, but I'm worried to read Kiya state they are a flat 36" inseam raw.

    The initial spec was 38" / 40", IIRC ?

Sanforized or not, I cant start off with a flat 36" inseam - once you consider that all important 0.5" - 1" shrinkage after washing, I'd be left with a standard pair of "non tall people jeans", LOL.

Great work on the denim and tab though.

  4. preferred pit to pit is a 24 just like the BR I posted. I have a sugar cane XL denim workshirt that also fits me good. The Larges are fine but I'm not free of moving like I'd like to. I have SC chambray and hickory L and with a tee under them they're quite snug.

The real problem is that XL Canes are quite rare, you have a few on history preservation but only the denim styles. If you want some nice chambray, pin or hickory gotta fit in a L.

Since I'm 6'4 sleeves are also my other problem.

    hi -

some of the XXL Ironheart shirts on the selfedge website seem to have quite long sleeves, I noticed as I have the same problem.

I dont know if they shrink or not though, which has kept me from buying. When you're paying for premium brand prices, you need to know you can wash them on a hot wash without fear!!!

let me know if you do find any with long enough sleeves. :)

  5. Incredibly unique Griffin "Bomb Her" bomber jacket, from the 2005 collection (well that's when I bought it in Selfridges, Oxford Street).

    NWT - Size XL

Fantastic detailing as fans of Griffin will expect. British camo lining etc, italian fabric on the outside - zipping that goes right through the sleeves and through the shoulders...

    See pics for details.

Never worn, as unfortunately it was always a little too tight for me (it's slim fit) - however I always intended to "lose some weight" as I love the jacket - that has not happened three years on, so it's time to sell.

It will make a lovely winter jacket for you.

    Paid £250

    yours for £150 + postage.

    PMs only please

  6. Fantastic pair of made in England Clarks originals.

Quite special to see a pair of Made in England originals (they're now made in Vietnam) :(

I dont know the style name - got them in a Clarks outlet a few years ago, but never worn.

They were bought in an outlet, hence no box, and there is a little bit of dust on the soles because of this where they have been tried on in the store.

They have not been worn however, as you'll see from the detailed pics.

    Size UK 12 / US 12.5.

    £40 + £6 postage and 4% paypal if required.

    PMs only please.

  7. i would go for the iron hearts, but the inseam is just too short!

I too would love a pair of the ironheart superblacks - unfortunately, inseam is too short. I'd also want them to be selvedge at that price I feel.

Almost three years since starting this thread, I havent bought a pair of black jeans yet!

Hoping to find a jean like this, somehow, someway:

    47 501 style cut

    black warp and weft

    selvedge

    heavy weight

    silver rivets

    38 inseam (post)

  8. valid point- though it's also worth mentioning that you are still keeping skilled tailors in work- they just happen to be from China/Macau/etc.

    No, that's not the same.

That would be like saying I want to keep skilled call centre workers in work in India.

My point was that by buying those brands you keeping shrinking domestic industries alive.

Since I don't imagine French labour force costs have risen so wildly and uncontrollably since ALD was formed a few years back, this move is not about 'controlling costs' but being cheap and fooling the consumer - while they will no doubt continue to charge the same price for items made, literally, at a fraction of the French cost.

They are marketing themselves as the premium French denim brand - but they will no longer be very the thing they claimed was their USP.

  9. this is not good enough, IMO.

If "designer" or premium brands start moving production out of Europe and into China to save costs on labour force, then I want to see a significant saving passed on to me as a consumer.

They are basically cutting quality costs, or at least being a hypocrite about their previous selling point - ALD - the 'French' denim brand, and yet not passing any of the savings back.

Obviously, I am commenting on the rumour that production will be moved to China, so if the 'rumour' is wrong then I take back those comments.

However, I am commenting in general about all these 'premium' brands which seem to be quietly moving everything to China and not expecting us to notice.

I kind of liked the fact that buying small scale European / American / Japanese brands was keeping these skilled tailors in work, despite 'globalisation'.
