  1. biggow, i'd grab a few more if i were you- even if it is to ship to ppl in the states on this board-

i just picked up a pair of blue bloods and to be honest i think i like the uniqlos better, and that is saying alot since i love the blue bloods.

  2. Guy h,

yeah have looked on the site (love the easy nav of it) but yes hard to read. i wll check the inside and the tags. i agree with a canvas belt they are great, but am worried about them looking too 'urban' in fit ala rocawear or fubu...so wouldn't mind a little shrinkage on the waist.

    thanks again.

  3. i haven't seen the shop in richmond but the 2 in london are seriously low or out. i know i grabbed the last 34 and second last 32 at both oxford st. and regent st...

i'd second what biggow said in terms of bargain, but in terms of quality they are no different than denim at 160 pounds or up- yes, lack of distinct details but i'd be surprused in a blind touch test to be able to tell the difference between the denim on these and on 5EP or prps...

  4. I've got a friend in Tokyo now and was going to have him pick me up a pair. So if I wear, say a 34" in PRPS (if the fit is similar) what size do you recommend in Uniqlo?

    Thanks

I'd say go for the same, or bigger even depending on how you like wearing them. i found the prps to be a bit snug in my true size, same for uniqlo, so i got 2 pairs (the last ones) in a 32 and a 34, and to be honest i like the 34 fit better. not too baggy, just a bit loose...

  5. what i was referring to, not being specific enough- was not the person that work(s)(ed) there but a customer that might as well work there. he was a walking billboard, and it is not only bape that i think is corny when done to the extreme. i think that brands like lrg, evisu and any brand that is blatant is corny...even old navy, man.

  6. hey cue,

i got 2 pairs last week.pair of 34's and 32's. you must be super slim because i am a true 30 and those were snug. also rinsed (no soap) and sun-dried the 34's and the texture is the same as prps selvage. gonna leave the 32's as is.

selfridges sale is insane. scooped a pair of blue bloods selvage for 49, and a apir of y3 trainers for 37. think there are only big sizes left for bb's though...

  7. cue, i totally agree. walking by the bape shop makes me laugh, there is this one guy that walks around there head to toe in bape gear, and i mean it is ridiculous. how is that dope?

the dudes at the hideout are on some other level, less obvious and they are pretty friendly but then there are the mhi guys who again are totally geared out.

it fuckin makes me cringe when these shop guys think they can shit on you, the yung-uns that are artists on the side etc...it is a store, and unless you own it (which we know you don't cause we know who owns the london stores) you are getting played...

  8. just picked up 2 pairs of unqlo's dry selvage at 20 quid a pop.

honestly, after tons of debating i think that these are most similar to prps'. i know alot of ppl will disagree but the weight/colour/texture are very similar. the difference is in the details, yes purple prps/camo pockets/buttons on fly etc... but even the fit is the same after having tried on both-

picked up a pair of 32's and a pair of 34's (the only sizes left) will try to shrink the 34's but if they don't then they will be the sunday baggies. again, can't go wrong, 2 pairs for less than a quarter of the price of 1 pair of prps, on sale, at selfridges....

  9. got a pair of the english about 6 months ago at selfridges. they were going for 69 but my wifey works there so another 35% off...not bad, but oddly enough about 3 weeks ago before the sale they had some english going for the same price but the new standards for way more...

  10. grand puba, DU, nas, atcaq- all nice-

  12. i have to agree with andewhall...i think that being an older cat (though from other posts i know i am not the oldest) i have gone through so many phases that to know what was 'real' or a 'trend' didn't matter so much since what was real is what i am today- when i was a 12 yr old kid listening to wjlb in detroit that i would be listenin to hip hop 18 yrs later yet here i am in london shooting some legends (rev run the latest) and some up and coming (kweli, the roots) for a legendary magazine.... so, i am what i am- and from my experience it takes some following to get to leading.

st is a great platform to see what is hot and what may not- i will tell you know that there are tons of trend forecasters on this forum seeing what to follow or report. look at the apc threads, i remember asking ringring his advice about them months ago and now the apc thread is like 13 pgs long. check the edwin thread, that will be the new hot topic. and big up to ringring, he is a true gent giving his opinion and advice but never once calling anyone a follower even though he knows more about the brand, and probably heard or had seen the brand months or even yrs before. my point is that those who are getting defensive about monikers post, relax...those who get upset are the ones whoes insecurities rear its ugly head.

  13. I think it is amazing that the 'jean' has made such an impact. I recall my first impression of 'jeans' were jordache when i was about 7 yrs old, then there was sergio valente and finally levis. i am probably revealing my age from the above statment but even then denim had a huge influence on me. it was especially interesting since my father who worked in his levis had his 'going out' jeans and his work jeans whereas now i think his work jeans were much nicer from the age and the story they told.

crisp dark selvage seems more acceptable in places where denim is usually frowned upon (workplaces especially). though whats more interesting is that in the days when shops like Harrods had a dress code, now cannot differentiate between who has or doesn't have the right kind of money to shop there since many kids wear super distressed, torn jeans that may retail for 3-400 pounds.

whats even more ironic is that i had an argument with a friend who went to a private school in the uk who stated that 'trainers and jeans' combo were only worn by non private schooled kids since when he went to school it was never allowed. however when we went to eton (private school where Prince Harry and William went) the boys were ALL wearing denim and trainers...those that were privately educated and of his generation are all wearing ironed Tommy Hilfiger jeans with sensible loafers...ouch.

  14. thanks to all those that have contributed so far- all very familar names.

i will be more than happy to share when i am finished but i def. need more input. so far it seems that the ppl that have responded are majority into premium, selvage denim. i think it is interesting that a big reason that selvage is purchased is that the consumer wants their denim to convey a story, i mean i am guilty of this as well after ring ring posted the nudie link of those that didn't wash their ralfs for months, so rather than buying a prepackaged artificial piece (perhaps tsubi, or again diesel) we want to be individuals that have tailored individual pieces....but again the irony in the fact that denim was supposed to be used as a uniform for the working class and now has become a uniform for the urban youth.

looking at the board i would love some to rebute and add comments why they like to wear faded, predistressed denim. i know it was mentioned that it may be a feeling of rebeliousness, but it would be great to hear more.
