  1. I'd take a look at vintage Omega Seamasters -- like the pie pan dials. They're around the size you're interested in (maybe a touch bigger at 34mm). You could also pick up a small vintage Rolex for a good price (relative to the prices for larger sport models). Search Watchrecon (link above) and you'll get a good idea of what's for sale and where. Omega Forums is a good place to get started on what to look for. The vintage market is also filled with a lot of frankenwatches.

  2. I've never heard of Vague so I don't know where they might be made, but Orient and Seiko (Japanese companies) both make lower-priced watches for third-parties (but likely not actually made in Japan). 30mm is on the small side for a watch by modern standards, so the options are going to be a little limited. I think William at Tender has quite a good collection of mechanicals in this style-(ish?) around the size you're looking for.

Otherwise, I'd seek out vintage where you will have a very good range of choice for good prices in watches of that diameter.

Try also taking a look at Watchrecon for what's available in the secondary market.

Seamen’s trousers are close, just would prefer metal buttons to sewn on. And I don’t particularly like the painted size label either.

I started looking at FW but most of the options available have lots of extra bells and whistles I’m not looking for. Don’t need too many extra pockets and all that.

This is what often puts me off FW when looking at their pants. Though the 1022008's are great, there's usually too many additional details like straps and buttons at the hem, or extra pockets randomly placed on the thigh. I get they're making these items based on historical specimens, but I find them a little too busy.

  4. So I see @BrownMetallic's post with a super nice pair of old Dayton Drivers a few days ago. I've wanted a pair for a long time. I used to wear Dayton boots (not the drivers) in the 90s, I think I went through three pairs. The Dayton story is sad given what's become of the company now. And they haven't made these for several years. But by some weird turn, I ran across a pair in my size for sale here in Canada in a Kijiji ad. They arrived today and turns out they've barely been worn. I love them. Paid $100 CAD.

If you were to place bookmakers in broad categories of quality level, how would you rank the various contenders? I've only owned Paraboot & Carmina...

Not sure any of this will help you.

I own a couple pairs of Carminas, as well as Church's and three pairs of Nick's (which are also based in Spokane, same basic design, essentially equivalent to Whites and split off from Whites in the 1960s). The quality of construction is very high but not highly finished, if that makes sense. Carminas and Church's and the Japanese brands are really precise in finishing. Nicks/Whites use thicker leather and heavy duty stitching but things aren't perfectly cut or stitched. They're well made, but not finely made. My Church's are very very well made and finely at that. But they feel no more robust than my Nick's Comstocks. But the Comstocks are rougher in construction -- not lined, stitching around the welt is a little uneven, the edges are unfinished, etc. But they are exceptionally 'heavy duty' hand-made, old-school construction.

I'm trying to compile a list of jeans that have roomy thighs with a smaller waist (men's or women's jeans). Like a 30" waist with 12" or bigger thighs.  Discontinued jeans are OK because sometimes they pop up on ebay.

    on my list so far:

Flat Head Balder, Left Field Atlas, Pure Blue Japan 019

Can you think of any others?

Tender 132, 132X or 136. Very wide leg.

Well, first I don't see the point of an all cotton jacket with a hood. Either a jacket is meant for dry weather and it needs no hood, or it's meant for (occasional) rain and it shouldn't be dry cotton, much less canvas.

Lol. But you're in Seattle, right? I'm in Vancouver... We likely have very different expectations of rain-worthy gear from others.

I know it's been asked before, but who ships internationally? Hinoya, Masuya...?

When a site doesn't have a tab for international shipping I assume they don't ship internationally.

    Thank you.

Find the contact and ask them. I've had very good luck with positive replies even from stores that don't advertise overseas shipping. Here's some others...

Celluloid, Bears, McFly, Junky's, Speedway (which is Lofgren), Organ, Canvas, Barnstormer, Hoosier...

Is there anywhere that has the 601zxx in a w36 if not will they make again the 51s are borderline on the waist I presume I better size up to 36 if I can find some appreciate any help cheers lee

Not sure if this will help, but I find the denim in the 601xx '51s is quite stretchy. I sized up to 33 (from normally 32) and wish I had actually sized down. I love them (and wear them a lot) but they're a tiny bit sloppier than would be ideal for me.

Sorry I’m not using the right terminology lol. I looked at a few diagrams and realized what I meant is that the instep is too spacious for my foot. I imagine the width of the shaft is also a contributor, I’ve only really worn lace up sneakers and boots before this so the amount of space I have from my ankle up is unexpected. An insole helped a bit but didn’t keep my foot from feeling like the boot was hanging off it each time I took a step.

By your description, it sounds like they might be too big. A photo with them on would be helpful. The photo links you put up above don't load for me so I can't see what they show. But if the instep feels sloppy and you describe the length as being a touch long, I'd say they're the wrong size. Boots like these can be difficult to size right given the lack of lacing, especially when you have to sort of guess the sizing over the internet.

and in resonance with @persco_'s excellent fujiwara earlier in the thread, a close up of a nashiji finish yanagiba by same maker

Great collection. I'm waiting for a Fujiwara 150mm Nakiri to come back in stock. I love his knives.

Got myself the logwood-overdyed 132 along with the type 743 wool-pattern pullover made out of indigo cotton. I'm very happy with both. The skewing on the pullover is not noticeable and not too visible. It does bleed like crazy though...

Nice. I have 2 pairs of 129s on the way in Unborn and the tan wattle dyed.

Well... That was fascinating reading. Thanks.

  14. I'm not an old school denim head, but I have over the years always loved selvedge denim. I started off years ago wearing MiUSA Levis 501s, Momotaro and 3Sixteen. I still have a pair of Momos and 3Sixteens, though both are now nearing seven years old.

    Now I'm focused on these:

Freewheelers: The quality and attention to detail is just super appealing to me. I wear the 601XX 1951s more often than my other pairs.

Warehouse: For the same reasons that others have already stated. The 1947s I own just fit me perfectly.

Tender Co: I really love William's unique approach to design and the way he interprets historical details into small batch, handmade clothes.

Sugar Cane + Mister Freedom: SC makes incredible jeans for the price, and I love Christophe Loiron's design philosophy. I own the Edo Ai by SC and the midnight denim by MFSC.

I do plan to try UES, TCB (Catboy), and a pair of IH 666 21oz. I'm also really interested in OOE, but they're never available...

I'll be looking for different fits because I don't need a dozen pairs of '47s.

2021 47s look great. Can you order from this Japanese site for shipment to USA?

    Are Sugercane 1955s long gone?

    Cheers

Send them a note through the site and Tom Tanaka will sort you out. Super fast and very easy to deal with. They don't take overseas orders through the online shop.
