what's another united tie/outlet of Techwear other than buying stuff/talking about buying stuff?

Yes. This is something I've been thinking about too, especially after meeting other people interested in fashion/tech/etc and having absolutely nothing in common with them. I was drawn to Acronym via cyberpunk.. not anime, but William Gibson.

To me the Gibson-esque culture that I love falls somewhere between Sonic Youth and Autechre ... hacking and art ... glitches and emotions ... Joseph Cornell and James Bridle. These are the cultural touch points for me, and if anyone wants to start some threads to talk about music or art I'd probably end up spending a lot more time here.

So would anyone like to chime in with the one item that they would be prepared to feel 100% satisfied with and stop the maniacal pursuit of happiness for ?

My big item isn't ACR, but related. If I could find a SI:SP Stealth Jacket, the long/trench one, I would buy it and be totally happy for the foreseeable future in terms of big ticket items.

I very much agree that GT as a stand alone is not sufficient to withstand extremes of cold. It is however excellent for layering purposes (IMO).

Totally agree. For example, I was out in northern Ontario dogsledding last weekend, it was -25c. I wore a merino base layer, merino sweater, J58-WS, J47-GT, and NTS-NG1. The base layers kept me comfortable, the J58 is very warm, and the J47 keeps out the wind and water. It's a perfect combo, and if you overheat during high activity it's easy to take a layer off and sling it over the shoulder.

Have you guys seen the new techline messenger from Bagjack? Was waiting on the 3A drop, but I almost think I like this more.

    Ugh, so many cobra buckles...

Yeah, no kidding. I wish they would have stuck with fidlock, like those way more. Also the price seems really high.

  5. I'm in NYC this week and went to Kith. Bough the Nike x Stone Island Sock Darts in black after trying them on... wasn't sure by the pictures online when when I put them on I loved them. Just shows that you have to really put it on before you know for sure... I saw that @TEKsevenZERO didn't love them after trying them on, I had the opposite.. probably never would have ordered based on pics alone.

i went with a Billy Kirk no. 177, it's a double stud belt similar to a mechanics belt but imo slightly more attractive.

Reason being 1.) if you've ever gotten holes in the lower stomach section of a t-shirt it's cause your stomach is rubbing up against the belt buckle through your shirt while you're sitting. The 1k belts are nice but I could see them tearing up every merino tee I own. B.) being a mechanics style belt if you have a nice car and lean up against you don't have to worry about scratching it, or any other soft surface.

i looked into belt choices for months before deciding, for me it's the no. 177 or a generic mechanics belt.

I've have a Billy Kirk leather belt that I've worn at least 2-3 days/week for the last 5 years. It's still beautiful. Good choice.

Aoku musette bag? Have one on its way to me. How do you like it?

It's really handy, I definitely recommend it. I've been meaning to do an actual review of it and the coded sidearm.  They're great both as supplemental pieces or as standalone bags depending on the situation :)

I love mine, use it most days at one point. Really handy for edc type stuff when I don't need a laptop. My only complaint about it is that the molle webbing is on the outside of the outer pocket, so putting anything heavy on there pulls the pocket down/open. I may add some velcro or a snap closure to secure it.

  8. IC: Veilance Patrol IS 3-in-1 jacket. FW14-15 (I believe).

    - Fishtail parka Gore-tex shell

    - snap-in insulated liner, bomber style (can be worn alone)

    - Great worn condition, some minor interior discolouration not visible from exterior and doesn't impact performance

    - Size L

IMO, one of the best Veilance jackets ever. Only looking for interest because one of my grails is up for sale and I'm trying to see if I can justify it.

  9. Thanks for the help, I know waist measurements aren't the only factor, but in this case it probably is for me. I'm usually a size 34 in most of what I own, so I'm not sure if the size M would even fit me. That's why I'd like to know which one to go for, and if the size M is actually larger than a 32, since the measurements don't add up. Another big factor is that there are way more size M p10's floating around than there are size L's.

My jacket size recommendation didn't seem to work for you, but I thought I'd try again anyway.

I'm always a 34 in pants, and the Acronym L is right for me. The M can fit, but it's a squeeze. L fits comfortably, not loose and not tight.

  10. Earlier in this thread I posted that I was looking for a small bag for an upcoming trip. I ended up with the Topo Minimal Hip Pack, which is actually out of production now. I got the last one at a local shop.

Topo doesn't get a lot of mention around here, but this makes me think that maybe they should. Quality is great, made in USA, nice details and multiple carry options (two different quick-adjust should straps, one removable, can also be use around waist). Padded interior with multiple pockets perfect for camera and daily carry. Zip close means higher security while traveling.

Not quite full on urban tech, they're more outdoors-y, which is probably why it hasn't come up here. But lots of great materials and design details.. and a lot of their stuff now comes in full black stealth colorways. Seems like a good more affordable option for good quality design.

    Whaddup

I'm thinking about buying either the Veilance Nomin backpack or the Outlier Ultrahigh Quadzip. Anoynoe here have experience with one or both and would care to comment on each pack's strong and weak sides?

    Ty

I've been using a Nomin for a couple years. It's a great backpack for daily use.

    Strong:

    - Amazing quality and materials

    - Really smart interior pockets and dividers

    - Highly weather resistant

    - Lots of smart details, like strap end retaining loops on the shoulder straps so that the long adjustment straps don't dangle

    - Looks amazing

    Weak:

    - Divided interior means that it's not great for large objects

    - No waist or chest straps, so with heavier loads there isn't a way to get more support

    - No real interior padding, so pack delicate things with care

  12. Makes sense. You don't wanna have to re-connect the liner every time you use the gravity pocket.

The gravity pocket is pretty unusable with the liner in either way... To get to the inside flap you'd have to push the liner sleeve out the way which is pretty awkward. It would be faster to just unzip and take the stuff back out of the sleeve.

  13. How does the green look? Specifically on the blazer.

IMO, that blazer with liner is the most acrnm piece in the lineup this year. Really reminiscent of a stripped down GT-J29 (removable hood, asymmetrical zip closure, collar line and up/down styling...). And the liner shares the same concealed zipper as the J58-WS.

Lots of other pieces have visible arcnm lineage, but this one really looks like a version of an existing piece.

  14. Yeah exactly this. I've been using the gravity pocket snaps to connect the liner until I found these loops. My J1B doesn't appear to have these loops.

This shit needs to come with instructions :)

  15. I can confirm that my FW15 ACG 2 in 1 jacket's liner can be zipped into my J1B-S. I can't see any gaps sand seem to be identical zip.

You are right about the sleeve connectors.

Until you guys started talking about sleeve connectors I didn't even realize they exist. Lo and behold, there are little elastic loops inside the gravity pockets on my J56-GT that match perfectly with the snap closure on the J58 liner.... learn something new every day. The funny thing is that the sleeves seemed to stay perfectly in place without it anyway.

  16. and it's not just recent trend in techwear that takes bits and pieces from military garments. historically most patterns and even styles were based on what the army was wearing before. there is a quite neat thesis on military influence on fashion here:

    http://commons.emich.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1167&context=theses

William Gibson's novel, Zero History, uses this history as a major plot device.

(tip: if you haven't read the book, but plan to, do not read the Wikipedia page, it's full of spoilers)

  17. just wondering if you or anyone can comment on the sizing of the j56? measurements look pretty generous and didn't know to size down or not. made the mistake of not sizing down on the j28k so don't want to go through that again.

I took my normal acr size and am happy with it. It fits a little looser than my J47-GT, but it also way better for layering or using with the liner. I'd say that my normal size fits much like the pics on the acr website model.
