  1. I never said that cotton is actually unicorns hair.

Of course one day a raw denim jeans is worn out.

But until that day comes, it already proved itself more valuable than any other industrial piece.

Yeah, I still think longevity is one point. But I also mentioned earlier that our stuff ages with beauty and grace. Funny you guys overlooked it so desperately.

Anyway guys, I really think we're on the same page. But we're all nerds and really into our stuff.

If I tell our customers that our €300 TFH will not outlast a €20 H&M jeans or a €80 Levis 501 they will definitely, and most correctly, name me a fuckstick that is only after their money.

So yeah, longevity IS a thing. And again, I am not talking about Oni / pbj (which I love btw).

Obviously a pair of TFH will last longer than a pair of H&M if it's worn in the same way/frequency/washing. So, yes, longevity is a PART of the appeal. But I have to agree with MellowYellow - if longevity is your only/main concern/interest, there are other options that are better, because cotton is indeed not the best material for that particular job. It's the combination of everything that makes raw denim great and worth their price IMO.

And I can't speak for Oni, but let me defend PBJ in that aspect: I wore my XX-012 every day for a year (6 washes total) and they are still in fantastic shape. No blowouts, no loose threads, even my cuffs are not worn through... The only thing that I had to repair was a small hole in my pocket bag, but that was more due to the largeness of my phone than anything else.

I think the reason why PBJ has the image of not being too durable is because most of their cuts are pretty slim fitting, and because this has been the trend for some time now many people wear them who have no business wearing e.g. an XX-012 in the first place. It's no wonder people tear them to shreds if they can't really move in them.... I'm not trying to attack anyone here, you can wear what you want, but I feel this contributes more to the image that PBJ's die quickly than inferior construction.

  2. Denimio has started stocking Soulive, which is part of the Japan Blue group.

    From this website:

“SOULIVE established in 2014 is a fashion brand specialized in indigo products. We pursue new value of indigo to extend to various styles. We combine classic and modern techniques and create high quality indigo products.

    Here is there official website.

In this article over at Denimhunters the brand is also discussed.

What do you guys think? I hope the stuff is as well made as Momotaro and Japan Blue. The MA-1 and Bandana shirt look pretty amazing... Hope Denimio is going to have sizing charts and more info online soon!

  3. Natural lighting (although not directly in the sunlight, this is usually too bright IMO) is probably the most important. Make sure to experiment with different backgrounds and set-ups - depending on where I take my pictures the denim looks extremely different. Other factors influence the look as well - close-ups usually bring out other colors than shots that are further away. Just experiment, have fun, and don't worry too much about it. Just like you perceive your denim differently in different situations, so will your camera.

E.G. When I take a picture of my Eternal Denim jacket when there is no natural light, it looks bland and just dark blue. Add a bit of sunshine and the hairiness of the denim comes through perfectly. When I then move on to close-ups it showcases the different hues of dark and light blue that have developed. And this is just with my phone. If you have access to a great camera your possibilites will be endless.

  4. After a lot of contemplating and switching back and forth several times between Evisu, Fullcount and Denime, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a pair of Denime 66XX.

They arrived yesterday and I am very happy with them. They are stiff as can be, it was very easy to let them stand on their own. It took me almost half an hour to button these bad boys up.

At first they were a little full in the leg, but I fully trusted that an hour in the washing machine (40°C) would shrink them up nicely. And lo and behold, it worked out perfectly.

(Excuse the terrible lighting, but summer is over...)

They are incredibly dark and have a lot of character. The denim is of course not as slubby as something like PBJ, but it still has a lot of variation which I'll try to show in future pics when the sun is shining.

I got them hemmed by Denimio, who did an excellent job. Their cutoff wasn't perfectly straight, but it is not noticeable at all so no worries there.

The cut is absolutely great. I went more or less TTS. Sizing down one to a 29 would have killed me. I probably could have gone with a size 31 (same size as my PBJ XX-012, which fit somewhat similar to the size 30, but are still a tad slimmer overall) if I wanted a looser fit, but I'm skinny as hell so a looser cut usually looks a bit weird on me.

Overall I'm very happy with these and look forward to wearing them for some time to come.

  5. ^^Loose/oversized has been the trend in some high-end designer fashion for some time now. Maybe Inoue wants to become the Yohji Yamamoto of the denim world....
