Happy jeans: TCBxSufu S40s WW2 contest thread

Here’s my final photos. I can thank my now 2 year old daughter for help in developing the combs; she was 7 months old when the contest started and I spent a lot of time sitting or crouched on the floor playing with her. I counted 426 days of wear in the end- sure I missed a few and I took about a month off to wear something else for a change. Didn’t wash much at first but more frequently as time went on. The only repairs I did were to the pockets, mainly so I didn’t loose anything. I didn’t really like the cut at first. I’m a slim/athletic build and these were quite a departure from my usual preferred slim straight cuts, but it certainly grew on me. Now I’m back in a pre contest pair and they felt ridiculously tight at first! Thanks to all for participating. It was fun to see everyone’s posts along the way and to see small snapshots of your lives and world.

Gave them their last wash today, at day 424. Pre wash photos: Finally blew through the rear pocket for good reason- going down a slide with my daughter on her second birthday! I like seeing the still dark denim through the hole, like looking back into the past….

Saw this recently posted video of Kaoru, who makes the M-54 model and probably some other stuff too as the “2nd generation”. Shot in real time for the most part, looks like it takes about an hour per pair, not including cutting the fabric. Same user also has a few other videos of CSF jeans.

Same! Or if not a contest, perhaps a group buy?

@CSL pretty much. Someone will probably start a final submissions thread, and you can add final and progress pics and any thoughts. There will be some time limit, say two weeks, to submit photos before judging. Several of the Japanese contestants are on IG only, so I guess they will be submitting photos here.

401 wear days and just gave them their 6th wash. No darns, but good to know darns can be darned upon! Got through the left knee, but won’t do any repairs at this point. A few recent other photos: Looking down to Boulder, Colorado from Gold Run Road. I didn’t. Hall Ranch, Lyons, Colorado. Gold Hill Memorial.

Shoes that look better with age...

These are certainly nothing special compared to all the cool boots and actual shoes people have posted. I got them because I had an ankle injury and everything else irritated it. Sanuk slip ons in grey canvas, which had faded quite nicely. I didn’t expect that!

I thought it was 18 months, which would mean the end of February, since it started September 1st.

381 wear days in… discovered that both pocket bags have blown out, so I’m not wearing them today so as to not loose anything and going to patch em tonight. Hole in the back pocket as well, don’t think I’ll repair at this point with ~1.5 months left. Probably won’t wear them much once the contest is over. Not that I don’t like them, but have the same problem as many of you. Too many jeans and not enough legs! I have to say wearing a normal slim straight cut feels very odd and a pair that was previously a favorite feels too tight. Or did at first, feeling better with a few hours of wear.

    Super(blogs)

My blog, which is absolutely not denim related, but still might be of interest to some of you. The focus is hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, and generally being outside in and around Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. http://www.hikingrmnp.org/

Not great mirror shot, but hopefully this gives some idea of the fit. Definitely slimmer and the white fabric is pretty gauzy. I’m 5’10” and 135 lbs, slim/athletic build. Went with a small which is what I take in all tshirts I can think of. It’s a 50/50 cotton poly blend, so hopefully no shrink, but it feels like it’ll stretch right back out too. With the TCB WW2 contest pair and their very high waist.

Here’s a few I took before the most recent wash, at wear day 337. Still not finding the time to wash as frequently as hoped, guess I’ll just embrace it. Rear left pocket wearing thin, as well as left knee. Not sure if I’ll try to repair before they blow or maybe just let nature take it’s course. Patch is still in ok shape despite using as hot as it gets water from the tap.

Another video from the same channel @aho posted above on soaking and shrinkage of the S824XX model. I have to watch it at work so I can turn the translation on, even then it’s occasionally still hilarious.

Too big for me, darn. If it’s any consolation, at least they will get a good home!

Here they are post wash. I’ve meant to wash more frequently with this pair, but this is only the third plus the initial hot soak. Mainly, I’m the problem as I still like washing in the tub by hand vs machine. And with a young child, work, life, just don’t always have the time to dedicate to that. The photos don’t look a lot different I think but they certainly look lighter in person. Five more months to go! Looking forward to seeing everyone’s continuing evolution!

I keep forgetting to update too. Or slack on doing so. Happy one year plus a bit, pretty cool to see everyone’s pairs coming along. Here are mine at 290 days, washed em again after this and they’re still drying. Might be in need of a few repairs soon. Looks like the left knee, rear pocket (due to phone), and combs are all wearing thin. I’ve been reading a few how tos on sashiko, and may try that.

    Mister Freedom

I posted a while back (looked and it was in January! Doesn’t seem like that long ago…) that I found a minimally worn Liberty CPO on eBay that was missing a button. I finally got around to making and attaching a new one today. Used a deer antler shed I found while hiking, which seemed true to the spirit of the shirt. Realized that I don’t have a great selection of hand tools for working on stuff that size. Probably would’ve been quicker if so but still only took 1.5 hrs or so. Went back and forth on how many holes to make for attachment- two seemed too few and four had me worried it would weaken the antler too much. I decided on three. When do you ever see a three holed button? Plus just read a book about SEALS and the trident pin. Some procedurals and the final product(not quite in the correct order):

    Iron Heart Jeans

Thought I would post some photos of a well worn Iron Heart shirt… that’s white! This is the IHSH-202-wht, white (or natural) chambray, pimped with turquoise snaps. I decided when I got it I could either try to keep it pristine or beat the crap out of it. The latter is easier to do, and more fun. About 40 days, no washes. Pretty interesting to see reverse fades, as it’s gathered dirt and indigo over the years. Still getting some nice roping, haha!

Not much to add, but I agree a very dick move. I don’t know how/if someone in Japan could sue someone in China. Is that even possible? Isn’t some inverse of that what has protected those Japanese denim makers using tabs and arcs from the litigious arms of Levi’s? I used to work in the wine world, and auctions are a big part of sales in the rare/older/big name side of things. Auction houses publish catalogs, photographed by their people. You can have a catalog, and buy the wine, but you don’t own the photos, which are often also published online. Sounds like this is a bit of a different situation than Christie’s or whoever, but not sure how buying the item for sale gives you ownership of all past images taken of said item, especially if they’re just floating around on the internet. Or why someone would even think that was true in the first place.

Noticed this cool feature in the middle of the right thigh on My RT02’s. Sure he did too!

One less pair of unworn Roys after today. I should’ve gotten one size up, but I’m pretty lean right now with my A race in ~two weeks, so it seemed like a good time to get them soaked and hopefully stretched out a little!
