  1. Hmm, the tassels/zip pullers are quite similar to acronyms cord adjuster. I believe they even used to be cut at an angle at the end like acr's, or am I remembering this wrong?

If I am wearing my acr jacket and someone points to the cord adjuster and says "wos-dis-for?" I feel my response would be appreciated after I give em a quick demonstration *as you do*. Now if the same thing were to happen with me and these trousers, assuming it is now in jest because of they're tightness, their response would be "ere-lemme-cut-that-for-ya." *snip*

Any who, I used to be a fan of maharishi but is it me or does most of the stuff they make look the same? As in you could tell its all made in the same place. Also, the fit of a lot of garments just seems off. But its good to see that on a couple garms every season they splash out on a new fabric.

  2. Regarding the talk:

First of all, the chairs were a crock of shit, design museum my arse.

The talk itself concentrated mainly on ideas, probably because of the conceptual nature of aitors work. Things did get a little abstract in places especially when he was talking about how creatives have a logical and explosive side to their minds and this is represented, to him, as a ball of paint hovering inside a sealed box. This is the logical side. When this ball of paint explodes and makes a mark or a splat on the inside surface of the box, this is the explosive side and the mark made is the idea or the art.

He tried to give us an insight into his approach, which he did. He connected with audience really well I think but the title of the talk was 'what next for aitor throup?' which wasn't really answered.

The problem I had with my limonta (? The one before xpac) 3a1. I would usually carry a a4 folder in it which because of the way the bag bends around your back the corner of the folder rubs against the stitching of the label and is now hanging on by a few stitches. On my 3a3 (xpac) the stitching of the molle\pals has not been worn down, this is because the inside material is cordura and much more durable. I wonder if once the new material has been worn in will the same thing happen, that is, the the stitching rubbing off?

Also, DEEEEEEM, that price hike doe.

    Edit:ayy it worked.(am on mobile)

  4. ^^Might be going to the talk. Can't think of any questions.
If anyone can't go and wants me to ask a question you can pm me it. Assuming there will be Q&A.

  5.  â€œmore thought than the Pentagon put into the invasion in Iraq.â€

    *KA-SPLUTTER*

So Errolsons words are never authenticated or second guessed and then acted upon. Like a cross between Ricky Gervais's movie 'the invention of lying' and this scene from the it crowd:

But in a more tech-ninj context.

I'd like to guess at who this 'big collaboration' is with, because it has been alluded to, but I wont say.

    Edit:

  6. Hey TIMDOT, thanks for the thoughts!

I don't have the J27, but I've always assumed that the the side pockets are one big pocket with multiple entry points? Or are they 2 separate pockets, holster and side?

Yes they are two separate pockets. __ Horizontal=above  | Vertical=underneath.

Also to note; the top flap which covers the horizontal pocket is larger than the actual entrance to the pocket, which has probably been done for aesthetic purposes.

When you put your hand into the vertical pocket there is space inside the pocket that extends backwards underneath the horizontal pocket and then some.

  7. An edited response to a conversation with TresUnCool on my opinion of the j27-E:

    • The horizontal pockets are a bit of a pain to take things in and out of. To imagine what it's like take the back of your right hand and place it on your right rib cage with your fingers pointing downwards, this is pretty much the position you have to do to get things out of the pocket and its a bit awkward.
    • Using your right hand to get things out of the left horizontal pocket is just as awkward and you will have to do this because 3A bags cover the right horizontal pocket, if that applies.
    • In all honesty the material is too hot for 20+ degrees Celsius weather. My black goretex jackets fare better.

    • Compared to goretex the epic material picks up more dust but it can be vigorously wiped off. Avoid picking up big bits of MDF, like I did   -_-.

Other than that, it is a pretty good jacket. The vertical pockets are quite big and are much more accessible. The material is very soft and comfortable. The fit looks very good (I am 6ft, got a medium) and feels loose but not saggy as I had previously thought it looked. All the other features(/gimmciks) of the jacket work well, the hood, the escape zip (there are four popper buttons that run along the zip), the gravity pocket and the tightening hem.

All in all I wish the material of the jacket was more versatile (was goretex).

  8. Got me E-j27. Wasnt expecting it to have an escape zip seeing as it doesn't mention it on the store and has a zip garage, which is probably there to stop your chin rubbing on it.

I will be wearing it with the hood packed, unlike my j36, am still figuring out how to roll it up perfectly. I know there was discussion on here about the sleeve tabs and rolling up the sleeves but after reading it I am still failing. it would be great if someone could post a pic or two on how to do it.

  9. Any carabiner would be better than the TAC-link as it is a device designed to fail and break if any stress is applied to it.

Why opt for a screw down stainless steel one and not for the Acronym 3A modular pouches?

A grimlock would be a best if you need option than both as it is still polymer so it will be quiet and not make a lot of noise like a metal carabiner. And it's in matte military colors so it will fit better with the ACR aesthetic. It also has a quick release pin adding to disconnect components with ease.

I think I'll stick w/ my choice and just spray them w/ black primer and black spray paint (which I already own) if necessary. These are not as minimal but I do like the quick release feature.

    Might post pics of outcome.

I was thinking of buying the Ej27 but am not sure of the durability. The last two jackets ive dropped a fair-bita-dough on were goretex, a veilance field jacket which I wore almost everyday for a year until I got a J36-gt, semi-retiring the field jacket. I have subsequently not taken off the j36 since then. Both have held up well. Both need a wash.

I would like to hear about other peoples experiences with the EPIC material, things like, how does each colour fade black vs olive? Could I wear it everyday for a year? If not, when is the exact date it is unreasonable to cake it for any longer?

I am still kicking myself over not buying the goretex J27.

On page 70 someone showed their epic trousers which were faded and someones solution was to use simplicol, a DIY dye. I have no problem w/ getting the black J27-E, wearing it out and having to do this procedure. My problem w/ getting the black is that I would then have three jackets that all look the same. Also I remember someone saying that Errolson said that black epic faded differently or less.

So my question now is, whether to get the black or olive or at all seeing as I dont really like the idea of it fading at all?

Sidenote: The GTj27 looks a lot more solid and so do the details whereas the Ej27 looks saggy IMHO.
