  1. Mpukas, I had a pair of Alden Indys resoled (not by Brian) and when I first got them back the footbed felt really weird, after a couple of weeks of wearing that went away and now they are fine. So maybe just wear them a while with thick socks and it might get better.

  2. Chippewa 1901M49 Engineer boots, Cordovan color, resoled my Role Club. Handwelted. Storm welt. Role CLub half soles & heels. Replaced roller buckles with Japanese solid brass. Replaced paperboard footbed with leather.

    I was planning on wearing these in the DWC boot division, not I'm not sure. I'm not happy with Brian's work. The are ipeccable on the outside, but on the inside I have issues with comfort of the footbed. The edge of the footbed is raise in the front of the boot where the upper leather is tucked under, and it's irritating. At the heel where the upper leather is tucked under the leather footbed, it raises up the outer edge of the footbed causing a ridge that is also irritating.

    I may have them resoled my another shop. This was a waste of money.

    left boot heel pad - outside edge is raised due to edge of footbed being lifted upwards, creating a ridge under my heel;

    inside of right fore foot - the outer edge of the leather footbed is raised, creating a ridge all around my toes (f'g photo links won't rotate properly f/ Photobucket);

    That sucks they they don't feel right after a resole. Do you have enough room to fit a thin insole?

  3. I need to page through this thread... but looking for ideas on boots.

    I am looking for a round toe, no toe cap, brown boot.  No speed hooks, no double outer stitching (like on whites), no Redwings, no OakStreetBootmakers.

    I could possibly go with a plain toe cap, but I don't care for all the ornamentation that generally goes with it.

    Thanks for the ideas!

    Hey Fanya, For what you're looking for I would definitely go for a custom pair of White's, Nick's or Wesco (I'm pretty sure all three will do single row outsole stitching if asked). It'll be 3 or 4 months before you get your boots, but you'll get exactly what you want and they will last a lifetime.

  4. got damn, I've come to the conclusion that the boot I've been looking for all this time is the Farmer Rancher...funny, that that's where I started with White's to begin with! beautiful pair erk!

    That said, my next pair will be a 6" ala Farmer Rancher style, albeit from Nicks.

    Aho, is that the Nick's Robert boot?

  5. I did mean stateside, and you are both partly right. The base model Boss and Nomad are right around the same price. Doctored up Nomads are cheaper than doctored up Wescos. As of right this moment, I prefer the Wesco Boss to the White's Nomad because of the limited customization offered on the Nomad. Wesco just gives you a chance to make exactly what you want even if you have to pay quite a bit for it.

    I agree. Wesco charges you for every little tweak, I can understand charging more for special leather but for thread color, heel lift, etc that's lame and it can really add up. But you might as well pony up the extra cash to get exactly what you want.

  6. As someone who has used Brian for a couple resoles I just wanted to chime in. I had a pair of shoes resoled and rewelted by Willie's in LA and I think it cost about $270. They did a fine job but they actually did not do what I asked for. So if Brian is charging closer to $300 for a hand-welted resole I don't think that is too much to ask. Brian was totally great to work with and answered all my questions, plus he sent me pictures of what he was going to do and made sure that it was what I wanted. I'd rather pay more and actually get what I want. I had a pair of boots resoled at Moulded shoe here in NYC and they totally fucked up the welt in the process. It was only $150 but I wound up having to have them resoled again within 6 months.

    As far as I can tell there is no one else in the US doing what Brian is doing and to get a similar job done you have to ship your boots to Japan. Brian has to make a living so it makes sense that he would raise his prices as demand for his services increases. This is a really niche market and I'm just glad that someone is doing it. So I'm happy to support him instead of shipping my boots overseas, having to deal with language issues, etc.
