  1. haha, the sure path to marital bliss is to count how many shoes and jeans your wife has and throw it in her face at an unsuspecting time...

I can't be the only person here with more shoes and more jeans than my wife. She can't walk into our closet without making some comment.

  2. Sorry for blatant advertising, but hoping to catch a buyer before they purchase elsewhere.

As hinted above, my size 40 25 oz type II is up for grabs in B&S.

Please buy it so I can get one in the right size. Link in my sig.

  3. Boy is this a long shot...

I have a size 44 Samurai Type III but its just too big for me. As a result i've never worn it past trying it on real quick... no wear on it what so ever. These are one wash so its already shrunken and softened a bit, and somehow it got a bit of black on one of the buttons (see pic) but im sure this would come off with a wire brush or something.

My dream is I find someone with a size 42 that is too small and we trade straight across. I will entertain trades for other Type IIIs I suppose, but really hoping for the Samurai...

  4. Very sad news in my inbox this morning from a friend in Japan. It seems Akifumi Nakajima (Aube / G.R.O.S.S tapes) has passed away. I think that his extreme and meticulous packaging was the pinnacle of one of the trajectories of 90s cassette noise culture, but still he was powerful enough mind to bend rules and blur lines in ways like doing a split tape with British pranksters Smell & Quim... I think this personal and idiosyncratic approach is lost in todays dogmatic genre exercises... Akifumi was a real natural beauty.

I'm blasting some G.R.O.S.S classics today like v/a "The Four Shrines", Allegory Chapel Ltd "Demimonde Voices", Incapacitants "El Shanbara Therminosis", as well as Aube classics like the split w/ The Haters in his honor.

  5. I think the heavy weight of the material contributes to the speed of fading as well. Mine has zero hours of wear but already shows hints of light blue around the pockets and in places where it was folded during shipping.

Speaking of which - I think the heart breaking reality of mine is that size 40 is too small and that I need a 42. All the measurements were spot on from Yuichi, and those exact measurements should have worked for me, but something about this heavier denim... I just need it slightly bigger or else get used to the idea of never moving my arms. Obviously heartbroken, especially because soooooomeone (^^^ahem^^^) seems to have picked up his last 42 already  ;).

I've never had to return anything to Yuichi, and don't even know if he allows returns from his international customers, but considering the astronomical new international postage rates, I might just offer it on B&S and see if I can save him and myself the trouble.

Now that I think about it, I have a graveyard-shelf of sizing errors in my closet that should just go in B&S. I could call it "the gallery of sizing folly and arcade of misery" or something.  :(

  6. It's very new to me, though I am not sure if it's current release. I purchased it from Yuichi about one month ago. It's also available in a traditional red and a deep blue.

Mine is size large and a pretty good fit at 21.5" pit to pit, 27" length. Shedding a pound or two would make it fit a bit better, so I hope that gets me going in the right direction.

    Thanks for your kind words!

  7. ^^^^ great look!

A type 1 or 2 would be more appropriate, though...

Just as I remembered: S634 is a wider fit compared to S526

Agreed. In general actually I prefer a Type II, but my current type II* is flathead so it would have upset the Samurai consistency in that photo.

*(Check with me later today though after I pick up my 25oz Samurai Type II waiting at the post office!)

^^^ would love to see close ups of that flannel - lovely colour.

    Happy to excessively oblige:

  8. Post Soak update on S634VX-15th:

    (Pre-soak pics here)

One soak in the hottest water possible in the tub. About 30 minutes. A bit over a week of wear before I got around to taking the post soak measurements so waist has stretched back a bit. Since these are a higher rise than normal, the few extra inches in the waist help to get em over my gut, but if I ever get around to losing the 10 lbs I want off, these things are not going to fit. Triple cuff for now while I figure out how much I want to take off. Usually, I just hem to get a full break with no cuff but a cut this full might require a 1.5-2" cuff and no break. Gotta think about it for a while.

    BIG method.

    Waist: 36/35

    Front Rise: 13.25/12.75

    Back Rise: 16.25/16

    Upper Thigh:13.5/12.5

    Knee: 11.25/10.5

    Hem: 10.5/10.25

    Inseam: 34/32

  9. @ kaskade: I can't really compare the 710 to something else but otherwise you seem to have the right idea. most people can go down 1 size for a slimmer fit.

@redstar. My tagged size 33 710XX started at 34" raw and after a year are at about 34.75". If you want a final actual waist of 34" then definetly don't do a tagged 31, and honestly, even a tagged 32 is going to be a bit of a squeeze. I'd actually say 33 for a slimmer look, 34 for maximum comfort.

  10. Thanks! I'm still experimenting with a personal soaking ritual but my current thinking is that wearing for a few weeks before the first soak gives me the best fit. (Going to be hard with something this extreme but I intend to try). So it might be a bit, but I will get those measurements posted as soon as I have em.

Suspenders... not usually my style but buying this pair I will have to give it a shot and see!

  11. Just in from Yuichi:

This is my 4th pair form the 15th Anniv. series, and each one has different lining on the coin purse. This one is my favorite so far:

With a 10.5 inch hem measurement, this is certainly a much fuller cut than I normally wear. I'm looking forward to it though. Pre soak fit:

  12. Wait a minute there Foxy, you have the S526VX-L-15th and you're only mentioning it now???

    SPILL. THE. BEANS.

Also, please post some photos. :D :D :D

Yup, that caught my attention too. Would love to see some pics. Been lusting after them pretty hard myself but I had already reserved the S634XX-15th with Yuichi and they are so similar its hard to justify.*

*(although... the fact they are so similar would really help in sneaking a new pair past the wife)

    .

  13. Tate + Yoko

(... as a devoted Self Edge customer, I checked with you guys first. Unfortunately, only the 42 is in stock, where as T+Y still had 40...)

But yeah, my concern is that if I do get the shrink I need in the sleeve length its going to be too tight in the chest and shoulders. But man, I WANT to believe....

  14. Any flathead experts want to chime in on this presoak fit? Its the 6002 Type II with the 3XXX denim.

Longer sleeve and body than I expected, chest seems ok now but worried there isn't enough room for the shrink... My only other jacket is a samurai one wash and I have little experience with Flat Head denim anyway. Probably going to dunk it and keep it but let me know if you think i'm making a mistake.

*(as usual, sorry for low quality photos)
