  1. stingray - Wow, those are a size 32? They look pretty tight. I got a size 31 and they fit perfect, other than the waist being much bigger than my other Flat Head size 31 pairs.

What were you initially disappointed about, in re: to the fit? Did it have anything to do with the waist?

I love my pair. Easily my favorite, thus far.

  2. nice man, they look great! I've yet to update this thread with pics of mine(MY BAD!), but its time for an update. I'm loving how mine look.

I actually have to send them to SE to have a couple repairs taken care of.

    anybody else with pics??

  3. bluegoldblues - are those selvage?

I have two pairs, one from, I believe the early 70's, and the other from probably around the 80's or so?

Neither are selvage, but both are pretty nice pairs. the early 70's pair denim is really quality.

got them dirt cheap on the bay. I don't think the guy realized what he had.

  4. Kiya - How do you actually go about copping pairs from....Self Edge(yourself)?

I've always thought that it would be so tempting to put aside a pair in your size for yourself, in everything you carried. I realized this wasn't the case when you said you didnt have a pair of SEXFHXRR's for yourself.

Do you pay retail? I know you dont pay retail, but do you treat it as if you're shopping at another store and put the full amount in, looking at it as another pair sold?

    No self-discount?! : )

  5. I copped size 31, and the waist was much bigger than the 33 it states its supposed to be. as far as the other size 31 pairs at Self Edge, its impossible for me to know if all of them are oversized. I'd call them and have them measure a pair just to make sure.

Problem with mine is I had them hem and chainstitch them so I couldnt exchange.

  6. in regards to my pair, yes, that is correct.

everything was straight, but the waist was quite big. I thought I had the anomaly pair but apparently there are a few people in this thread that experienced the same thing.

hope that helps. I highly recommend them. I was able to get the waist pretty close to where I would like it with a hot wash in the machine, no soap.

  7. which reminds me, although this may serve better in the small questions threads, however since we're on the topic...

I remember Mizanation stating in the I'm Having A Pair thread that when you get your jeans chainstitched the hem won't line up perfectly with the selvedge hem, due to the tension from the chainstitcher pulling on the jeans as he chainstitches the denim. Thus, when I received my Double Volante's, as stated, the chainstitch edge was slightly off from where the selvedge hem was.

However, I noticed on both of my pairs that I had chainstitched at Self Edge(prior to soaking) that both hems line up perfectly.

Why is this? Anybody know? Is it just that the denim wasn't pulled enough to see a noticable difference?

I hope I'm making sense in my description. When I get home I can post pics of what I'm talking about...

  8. I'm pretty sure he means that he hems the length first so that when he finally soaks the denim for the first time, the roping on the hem will(eventually) be more pronounced due to the initial shrinking and the tension this causes to the chainstitch.

If you chainstitch and hem them after soaking them, I believe his rationale is is that the roping on the hem length won' be as visible/pronounced.

  9. Double Volante order being prepped for my 4 year old right now..

You wouldnt believe it! They make these things that actually allow you to............................ adjust the waist to get bigger as they grow!

along with cuffing,(and the subsequent uncuffing as he matures) these will be built to last for quite some time.

    MUCH longer than 6 months.

  10. chambo - you aint lyin.. When I first got mine I took pics and didnt like the way they came out.........then I had my daughter.. she's 4 months today, so you can say that I've been procrastinating amidst the one too many baby throw ups and dirty diapers I've become accustomed to.

the weather is nice these days(although it snowed last night here) so this weekend should be a good time to get pics.

  11. blackmaged - pennyoka really hit it on the head. Also, Flat Head is my favorite Japanese brand at the moment, and with this being their only LHT offering right now, along with the specs on this pair, it really was a no-brainer cop for me, personally.

  12. I have two pairs of deadstock Levi 501's STF's that are kids sizes (damn it!). I have a early 80's pair like the one above, and a pair that I thought was late 60's because the flasher tag on the right back pocket has 1966 on it, however it's a little e red tab so I'm thinking early 70's.

if you're interested in pictures, check the Nippers thread for lots of pics.
