  1. Hey guy's looking to start leather crafting, specifically in making wallet(s) related item's. Here's list I'm going to buy soon, what else items would I need to start my hobby in leather crafting? Thanks!

    Veg-Tan Practice Leather 6-9oz

    Strap Cutter

    Meyers Lock-Stitch Hand Sewing Awl

    1/4†x 12†x 12†Poundo Cutting Board

    Overstitch Spacing Kit

    Keen Edge Beveling Tool

Sorry dude, but more than half the stuff you are buying won't help much with making a wallet...

Go get this Deluxe Hand Stitching Kit. The tools aren't the best but it'll do for a start. When you are sure you're gonna take this hobby further, then start upgrading your tools.

The book is a god sent.

Just use an X-acto or an NT Cutter penknife to cut the leather and a decent self-healing cutting mat.

3 oz and 5 oz leather. The thinner ones are for the guts and the thicker ones are for the shell.

  2. Not all wallets are meant to be carried in the back pocket for instance, some are meant to be carried in the jacket pocket.

I'm just saying, don't badmouth another craftsman, when it's based on rumours, assumptions and the likes. It can really ruin a man's reputation.

No offense but that is quite absurd. Its as good as saying that you designed a wrist watch that tells the time with perfect precision but starts losing accuracy whenever you walk.

The standard benchmark a craftsman has to hit for a bifold is for it to be able to withstand the abuse of a person putting it in the back pocket. Thats the most common place a bifold is placed, unless you are catering to a niche market of jacket-wearing-wallet-carriers.

And i wouldn't say that we are defaming him and ripping on him. Anyone who offers or creates anything should be able to take constructive comments in stride. My $0.02

  3. i have actually just bought an antique one a couple of days from an older saddler. I'm waiting for it to arrive.

I need to put some leather on the top ends and add some varnish, but other than that it looks good.

My stitching horse is way too tight for many projects, which has sometimes made small indentations, if I'm not careful.

Sounds good man...! Remember to post pictures of it..!

Yeah but that's some heavy leather, wallet weight leather just gets beat up if you try to saddle stitch like that without the pre-punch. Or my awl blades just suck :/

Really..? Hmm... I use pretty lightweight stuff for my wallets cause i don't like them bulky. I don't seem the have any problems stitching like him..?

Maybe you can try stropping your awl with jeweller's rouge. Just take a strip of leather. Rough up the surface with lotsa shallow knife cuts. Then rub jeweller's rouge into the cuts and strop with that.

Or u can clamp the edge of your work piece closer to the edge of the clamp. The leather wont bend away from you as much.

  4. Y'know... The clamp makes more sense than the pony...

By angling the work piece, you can easily see the pockmarks left by your spacers without tilting your head.

It's gonna make your stitching faster provided you can compensate the angle of the work piece and get a nice perpendicular stab each time.

  5. Holy crap that guy is fast and does his stitching stholman style!!!

Rep+ if he was a sufu member

YEA. TELL ME ABOUT IT. I FEEL SO GUILTY USING DIAMOND HOLE PUNCHES. And even when i use an awl, i feel guilty now for punching all the holes then stitching..! Haha.! Now. Its 2 in the morning where I'm at, I'm saddle stitching cause of him. Haha.!

I love that clam he has...

Yea, i wonder what you call one of those, the way it works and if angling your work piece like that helps with aligning the awl's pierces.

  6. Thanks dude.!

The turned edge is well... A turned edge.? It looks stuffed prolly cause this is pretty thick stuff, roughly 5-6oz.? I used some more chrome tanned as fillers for the handles tho. Pretty much just folded a strip of it, stuck it on and stitched it up..!

Yea..! I hate how the soft leather flexes. Sometimes you think you get a straight edge, but it turns out all wonky.

Oh yea... Nice tip..! Didn't think about that.. I figured that this is pretty thick stuff, and the filler in the handle is actually stuck in there pretty snug.

  7. - 2 piece waistband to prevent rear gapping and to achieve fades on top of the waistband when aging the jeans

    - hand hammered traditional washer rivets

Hey Kayodic, awesome jeans. Pretty sweet price too. I just had a few questions about it tho.

When you say rear gapping, you mean the waist expending so much that it shows butt cracks right.?

Those burr rivets, are there any hidden rivets in the back pockets.?

Thanks for posting pics and cheers for kopping a sweet pair.

  8. Ahh... Dont let the irregular tessalation of the emboss fool you..! During my internship, i had an assignment that needed me to sieve through thousands and thousands of soft copy Pleather textures. Many of which have surprisingly organic looking textures that looks seamless..!
